  1. Good luck, I'm interested to hear opinions on this. I've tried the unjury unflavored and Optimum nutrition any whey unflavored protein. They do ok if I'm cooking with it. Like if I make protein pancakes with cottage cheese in them, I throw in a scoop of protein powder and then I can't taste it. But every time I mix it in a drink I can taste and smell it.

Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

  3. I'm so bummed this morning. I typically weigh every Tuesday and Friday. Between last Friday's weigh in and yesterday's I have gained 5 lbs. For some reason I lost my mind last weekend and slipped back into old habits (habits that involve pizza and donuts). It should never have happened, but I thought I could (and was) controlling myself. I didn't eat large amounts, just ate them often. Not only did it cause a bad result on the scale, but I also felt like crap. Lesson learned.... I just didn't realize it would have that large of an impact, but I should have known and it was a dumb thing to do. I'm sure i'll be flamed for it too. Here's the REALLY disappointing part.... I weighed again today since I am going way off track and I've gained another 2 lbs. Yesterday I got my Protein, Water and exercise. My carbs were a little higher than normal (around 50 instead of the normal 30), but I couldn't believe I had gained. I thought I'd be down a little... but nope. Guess you can just never tell what our bodies will do. I just didn't have the heart to change my ticker. I can't let it get me down though. I messed up, and I know it. But I have to turn it around and get back on track. Honest journaling, eating well and upping my water is on the agenda for today. But I can't help but still feel a little bummed! Just another friendly reminder that we've only been given a tool and that it really is up to us. Thanks for the vent.... onward and downward!

    Disapointed and venting...

We are very much so in the same boat! I'm so tired of eating nothing but protein... but I've seen what happens when I do indulge in the carbs I want... so I've decided it's not worth it. Today I had 3 turkey sausage links. Very boring, but low cal and lots of protein! I think it's only natural to get tired of the repetition, but I'm trying to bear in mind that this isn't forever. Once I reach my goal I can have the occasional bad carb treat, but I have to stick with it for now. My goal is 100lbs down by 6 months out. So far I'm almost 3 months out and only down 45lbs. But I'm happy with that, it just makes me want more! I constantly read the "Whatcha eating today" posts for new food ideas.

    Disapointed and venting...

Hi Valleygirl... I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm thinking of doing the 5 day pouch test too, but I've heard it's only for people 6 months out. I'm not sure why though...

    Piercings?

I had a bobby pin in my hair and that had to go on the day of surgery so the nip rings probably will too. But your piercer should be able to get you some silicon barbells or hoops just for the time being. I know what you mean though. I had had mine done for about a year and when I decided to take them out (just for personal reasons) they closed up super fast. So if you want to keep them I'd trying to get a retainer and get them switched out by the professionals before surgery. Good luck! I miss my nipple rings lol
  10. So, I am in love with this smoothie from the Ultrametabolism diet book. It is just almond milk, PB and a banana. In the book you're supposed to use a natural almond or walnut butter, but I used reduced fat cream PB. At this point, I could live on this smoothie and if I can add some unflavored protein to it post-op, even better. I was curious though.... once I'm finally post-op would the smoothie be considered a full liquid, or would the banana push it into the mushy category? Just looking for general info, thanks!

    Cardio

I'm just curious what type of cardio everyone is doing and what you feel yields the best results? It seems like I have read somewhere that walking is the best for fat loss. I have an elliptical machine but I also enjoy doing the "Walk Away the Pounds" series. So I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are and why. I feel like walking is great for fat loss, but will using an elliptical trainer yield fat loss and muscle gain? Therefore, not giving the best numbers on the scale, but maybe giving better results from an inches lost prospective. I think as we are losing weight it's important to retain as much muscle tone as we can. It's very easy to lose muscle as we lose fat. Looking for more opinions out there!

    Upper arm compression sleeves?

I'll keep you posted! I've seen a few online. One wraps around almost like a shrug, but it goes really high up on the back of the neck, so I'm thinking it will show alot. There are others that are just sleeves you pull on and you could roll them so they don't show under short sleeves, but I'm not sure how they would work. I'm debating on going to the fabric store to get some spandex and making my own. I'll let you know what I can come up with.

    Give me an answer PLEASE

Yep, I agree. Bug them! That's how I found out that my nurse coordinator was out of the office and that I'd have to wait until she was back in. They didn't know how long that would be. I called the main customer service line and asked for a nurse coordinator re-assignment, they said they'd call me with an update. The next day I was approved. They are stingy and don't want to approve stuff, but if you keep on them, have the coverage and have met your requirements then there is no reason that you should be denied. Let them know you are still waiting!
  16. I worry about what my son eats everyday. He's 18 months old and enjoys a wide variety of food. I think about stuff like this so much though. I grew up in a house that never had fresh fruit or vegetables, but every imaginable fat free item on the market. I was put on Weight Watchers when I was 8... apparently it didn't take haha. I remember that fruit and vegetables were bad things when I was growing up. I don't want that for my son. He sees vegetables on a regular basis and he knows what they are. Sometimes he eats them, sometimes he doesn't. He doesn't get rewarded either way. He doesn't each dessert really unless it's a special occasion. His dessert is usually fruit and he loves it that way. If he doesn't eat all of his veggies I try not to stress about it. Sometimes he'll eat a ton of brussel sprouts and other times he won't touch them (brussel sprouts are my favorite so I make them alot). I don't keep junk food in the house. He knows what french fries are and he LOVES them. And from time to time I'll get him some. All things in moderation. What's most important to me is that he's eating a large variety of fresh foods. I really try to limit processed foods for my whole family, we don't need them. It really helps that my Hubby is health and carb concious. Growing up I wasn't allowed to have chips, Cookies, cakes or anything like that so on the rare occasion they were in the house I ate it all very quickly. If we were having company over and my Mom made a cake, that's what I had the following morning for breakfast. I just wasn't capable of making a rational decision, I was too young. I knew it tasted amazing and it was something that we hardly ever got, I had to consume as much of it as I could before it went away. I don't want that for my Son. My Husband and I both grew up having weight issues. I want better for my kids. As far as dining out, it can be tricky. Most kids menus have pizza, mac & cheese, cheese burgers and chicken strips, all with fries and soda or milk. I either order a regular entree and share with my son or try to make the best choice for him I can. Some places around here are getting better though. At macaroni Grill you can get broccoli as a side for kids. I'm ok with mac & cheese if he has broccoli with it and milk. Some other places let you mix and match and you can get carrot sticks or oranges on the side instead of fries. I just try to make better choices for him. It's ok for him to have something not as good for him on occasion, but I don't want it to be reward system. Also, if I make good choices for him now he'll be used to having these things when he's older and is making his own choices. All we can do is do our best and set them up with healthy eating guidelines to help them as they get older. When buying things like applesauce, I buy the no sugar added. He LOVES SF pudding, that's a fun and tasty treat for all of us. He's never had soda yet and juice to him is a sippy cup full of Water with a splash of juice in the top. He typically drinks milk and water though. I don't think juice is necessarily a bad thing, it has a lot of sugar, but a lot of other good things for you too. But, as long as he's eating fresh fruits and vegetables I don't see a need for the juice. Milk with meals and water in between has been fine for him and he likes it. I think dining out and shopping for your kids can be a minefield at times, but it doesn't have to be. Just branch out of the typical "what kids like" mindset. My Son loves greek yogurt and now that's all I buy, and we all eat it. I don't really buy anything special for him because he's a kid. He Snacks on wheat thins and cheese, not anything particular for kids.

    PCOS questions

Hi Tracy, I was on Metformin for about 4 years prior to the sleeve (including during my pregnancy in 2009). I never had diarrhea as a side effect, but I know alot of people do. I was sleeved almost 2 months ago and haven't been back on Metformin since. I'm not sure what my blood sugar looks like these days, but we'll re-evaluate it when I do some blood work in a month or so.

    Any other tattooed sleevers?

Also, I'd love to get a tattoo of the redhead pin up in my signature. I thought that might be a great goal tattoo. It would be quite large and probably on my back. But I love her so much, I think she's gorgeous and I think it would be neat to have a large tattoo that is beautiful and sexy when I reach goal.

    Any other tattooed sleevers?

All of your tattoos sound so amazing and I love that most of them are very personal to you. Sleeveorbust your flowers are so pretty! I'd love to see more pictures of some great ink! Well I'm bummed, my tattoo appt. had to be moved to next week due to a babysitting conflict for my little guy. But, it will still be great and I'm so excited. My tattoos: Butterfly on my inner left ankle on my 18th birthday Cherries with "eternity" kanji on my outer left ankle 3 weeks after the first tattoo (addictive!) A large star with a spiral pattern on my outer left ankle along with 4 other tiny stars randomly placed around my body. A moon with stars and mist on top of my left foot A large checkerboard star on the back of my right ankle Two large pink lilies with a few small lily buds, a blue butterfly, some italian script, and heart shaped gemstone birthstones that is on my right lower ankle/foot (pic) This tattoo was my first Mother's day present last year and is my favorite.
