im also 53, 100 lbs overweight too . i was band mid december 2011, im down 17 lbs total and feel great, i only looked at lap band because 2 relatives had it last june and i was so impressed by their progress and stories that i finally went to a seminar in sept , was approved in nov and was banded dec 13th. i didnt even look at any other surgery because this was the least invasive, reverseable and had the quickest recovery time. honestly its been a breeze. i was in and out of the hosp in 5 hrs, rested at home for 1 week but was so bored by the 3rd day i went xmas shopping. the only pain i had felt like a bad pulled muscle for 10 days. the only times ive gotten stuck or slimed was because i ate too fast and wolfed my bite- it was my own damn fault !its not that big of a deal, justa a learning experiance.i dropped from a size 1x to a xl, down from 225 to , and love the compliments im getting and the way im looking and feeling. BEST. DECISION. EVER. GOOD LUCK, AND GO FOR IT !!!

liquid stage i found that the boxed or canned chicken or beef broth was way too salty but i loved campbells chicken noodle or veg beef Soup (strained), also sf Jello, and sf pudding , frozen taste like ice cream ! mushy stage mushed up baked potatoes ,mmmmmm., and mushed up baked chicken no skin. tuna fish with a little lite mayo, cottage cheese , yogurt , bananas, applesauce,

mis 73, i hope you dont think that im trying to "one up" you with a funny story, but i had a funny nsv too recently. Im 53 yrs old, ive been banded 8 weeks ( Dec 13th), down from 225 to 208. im 5'3 and have always carried my weight fairly well, a co worker said "theres no way you're 225 !" but i was...... anyway .... i dress nicely and think i look good for being at 208 lbs. and have been getting lots of compliments. recently my hubby and his male co-worker came through my workplace and hubby introduced us. after they left the co-worker said to my husband " i hope you dont take this the wrong way, but when you told me in december that your wife was having lap band surgery, i pictured a bowling ball on legs ! ! she looks great !!" i got a huge laugh out of that one , and im still laughing. God bless that guy !!!

i told my family because i knew they would be very supportive, and they were! i mentioned it to my supervisor as i would be taking a week off. ALL my co workers were also very supportive , a few asked questions about the band, (normal curiousity ) and ive had nothing but support and compliments from them. Ive only been banded since mid december, down 17 lbs and feeling good( and looking better) about MY decision to get MY body healthy and strong. im guessing that if i ever do get a negative comment it will be because that person has'nt done their homework and assumes im taking the "easy way out." Well, i DID do my homework and im happy with my choice. good luck to you and keep your head held high, you are making a healthier choice for yourself !

i want to be you ! im 8 weeks out, down only 15 lbs- 6 on pre-op, 9 since surgery. im at 209 now , going in for my 2nd fill tommorrow. im a slow loser so your story gives me hope that i will soon be in onederland someday too ! congrats , youre awesome possum !!

ive only lost 17 lbs so far ( i was banded mid dec ) and co workers have noticed and said nice things even though they see me 5 days a week. one customer who i havent seen since november saw me last week and asked if i had lost weight as my face was much thinner. that was nice, and its nice that co workers want to know why im buying such nice new clothes. im not , its just my old stuff is starting to fit ! Woo hoo !!! and no, it doesnt get old !!!

im only 8 weeks out but i still feel the port under my skin, to the left of my belly button about the size of a quarter. liquids kept me full for the 1st 10 days or so, then my appetite started to return big time. i dont reccomend this , but i was so sick of liquids by then i mushed up some canned tuna with a little lite mayo and ate it . Heaven ! check with your dr if you are worried. better to know for sure than to worry about something . hope all goes well for you . im down 17 lbs total, feel great and getting compliments too. wait until you get your 1st nsv (non scale victory ) ,like when your pants start falling off and you have to get new ones ! youll be so glad you did this ! woo hoo !

EASY AS PIE ! i rested on the couch for 2 days and then was so bored and feeling fine by the 3rd day i went xmas shopping a little. other than a feeling like a bad pulled muscle on the left side for 10 days, ive had no pain. down 15 lbs, feel great and getting lots of compliments already ! im very happy with my lapband ! good luck to you !

congrats on your nsv !! do you feel like a hot mama or what ? im only down 15 lbs (banded dec 13th ) and ive been stuck at this weight for abot 3 weeks so i love it when i get a nsv. today i got 2 ! a customer who hadnt seen me since about nov said "have you lost weight ? it really shows in your face !) i hugged him ! a co-worker commented that my weight loss was really noticeable and that i looked good ! since ive only had 1 fill and wont have 1 for another 2 weeks my weight loss has stalled because im HUNGRY alot ! whats your secret to you weight loss ? PLEASE SHARE, I COULD USE SOME ADVICE ! THANKS !!

im 6 weeks out and have only lost 14 lbs but i look upon it as any weight lost is good progress ! wait until you have your 1st nsv ! (non scale victory) . when my jeans were hanging off my hips and i could fit into some old clothes , that was a major "happy dance !" once you've gotten a few nice compliments you feel better. so when the scale slows down think of the nice nsv's you re getting ( Hot Mama ! was one compliment i got . what a hoot !!) best of luck !!

wow ! ive only been banded 1 month and ive had nothing but supportive comments from family a nd co workers who know about it. i feel great , and ive lost 15lbs total. in the last 2 days ive received 2 compliments about how good im looking! some of my old clothes fit and so im dressing nicer. if sombody gives you grief about anything just explain youre doing something healthy for your body. wait until you get your 1st nsv ! (non-scale victory) clothes that finally fit, a nice compliment, walking without being tired, etc ) hope all goes well for you, mine has been a breeze !! just had my 1st fill. doing fine ! i'll be thinking of you on surgery day !

i have enough cancer in my family tree to kill a horse, i am the only one in my immediate family who HASN"T had cancer, and i also have it on both grandparents. one reason i got banded was the higher your bmi is tends to increase your cancer risk. also, if i did get cancer i wanted to be strong and healthy enough to fight it. i was just recently banded but am on my way to a healthier me. lapband is my choice for all the right reasons. best of luck to you .

all i can say is do your research and talk with people who have had it. attend the dr.s monthly meetups and local support groups if you have them. i did all the above and so was very comfortable when i made my decision to have the lapband. i had it done dec 13th, it was very easy and recovery has been pretty smooth because i knew what to expect because of all the research i did BEFORE surgery.i think the more you know the less worried you are before, and after. a calm mind =less stress=easier recovery. just my opinion. im down 12 lbs, feel great 1 wish id known about this years ago, already down 1 pant size ! woo-hoo !!

The next time she says something rude to you just tell her " I have my reasons for getting strong and being at a healthy weight,just as you have your reasons for being unhealthy and being overweight!"That should shut her up! I would'nt normaly encourage that kind of response, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire !!
