  1. im 53 yrs old. 5'3- was 225 lbs. been fighting a weight prob since i was 30 or so.i just got tired of not living the life i wanted. EVERYTHING revolved around my weight, and i mean EVERYTHING! i knew last spring that i would have to do something, but what ? then my hubby casually mentioned that his sis and her hubby were going to have lap band surgery around early june. I had seen the adds, so i knew what it was but had literaly never thought about it for me. they both had the surgery and did very well over the summer. i did research over the summer, and finally went to a seminar sept 7th, and the local support group sept 8th, and got the paperwork started. i had my surgery dec 13, 2011 am down 12 lbs so far ans feel and look better already. i am on my way to doing the things that i have only thought about for a longggggggggggggggg time . MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME !!!!!!

if you had a broken leg and not a weight prob would you refuse surgery or medical help because you were hoping God would heal your leg ? i think not. read through your story again and substitute "broken leg" for "weight problem" and see what you get. best of luck to you.
  3. go with the crocs..... good lock to you, hope all goes smoothly
  4. psych- he asked me nice questions about my life ,eating habits, family history, weight goals, things i wanted to accomplish but couldnt because of the weight, past weight loss attemps etc............nutritionist-pretty much the same thing. both were very easy to talk to. theyre just trying to make sure youre mentally stable enough and have realistic expections for weight loss. good luck!
  5. i just had mine done dec 13th. i was in and out in 5 hours! it went so fast i hardly had time to think about it. bring lifesavers if you got them, i had horrible cottonmouth afterwards all day.but it all went smoothly , and so far so good. best of luck to you !
  6. i had very little gas and the drugstore was out of gas x strips so i bought little gas x pills, they worked fine for me. the one thing i wish id had after surgery through the first day was Lifesavers! i had the worst cottonmouth after surgery, all day! i couldnt get ice chips down fast enough in recovery, or drink enough propel at home. it took several hours for my mouth to start producing saliva. get yourself some lifesavers!!
  7. sorry you had such an icky day, sending hugs down your way, promise your mom you'll listen to her concerns if she'll listen to the dr at the info seminar. seems like if she was so taken with dr oz's opinion, then she should be just as interested in the drs opinion at the seminar and the monthly support groups. its your body and you have to do whats best for your body., but i think you'd both be happier with her support. Go for it ! Best of luck to you !
  8. i had my surgery just last week, dec 13th. so far so good. the only thing i didnt have with me after surgery that i wished i did was lifesavers !nobody told me how dry mouth and parched i would be afterwards ! i couldnt get enough ice chips down fast enough. i had surgery a 8am and was released at 11am. feeling pretty good, but i just drank propel all day long because i was so dehydrated ! now 6 days later im down 6 lbs, went back to work today. 4 days after surgery i went and did some light christmas shopping. other than being a littlen tired i feel great! cant wait to start seeing results, with a stronger healthier body1 best of luck to you!
  9. great job! isnt a nsv fun ? i just had my band done dec 13th and ive already had one too! yesterday i finally fit into 3 pairs of pants that i hadnt been able to wear in months! Woo Hoo!!!!!!! this is fun ! 12 lbs down. 6 before surgery 6 since -woo-hoo!!!all of the weight came off my tummy. tommorow i go back to work after being off a week- ill see if anyone notices.good luck to you !
  10. i just had my band done on tues dec 13th, so far so good. no complications, no pain except for the soreness on my left side like a really bad pulled muscle. getting to the day of surgery was a little nervewracking, but once i was done i was soooooo glad it was over and that i could get on with my life. so far i ve lost 12 lbs total- about 5-6 the 2 weeks before, and about 6 this week. i know the hard work is still ahead, but i figure as long as i follow my docs orders ill be ok. best of luck to you -YOU CAN DO THIS !!!!
  11. im probably not the person who can give you much advice, as ive only been banded 5 days! but....... i did my homework before, talked to everyone who had had it. went to the info seminar and the local support group monthly. i read everything online and lapbandtalk that i could.when i made the decision to do it it was because i felt comfy with my research and knowledge. i had my band done tues dec 13th, and other than some soreness om my left side, i feel great! ive lost 12 lbs. 6 before and 6 since. im really glad i did it !

  13. way to go !! i was just banded on tues dec 13th. so far this has been a breeze !im so lucky that i havent had any complications yet. other than a little gas the day i had surgery, and a little soreness on my left side, ive been ok. i rested alot over the last few days, walked around the house , and felt well enough to do a bit of shopping today. i go back to work on monday. hopefully things will go smoothly for you too!
  14. i agree with skinnybitch, i would talk to a lawyer too. even if you signed a paper it doenst excuse incompentence. theres a difference. how do you know this is the first time its happened? do you want someone else to go thru this ? its not aboiut money, its about being held accountable. i wont go into detail but many years ago i also spoke to 4 lawyers over a drs incompentence. they did not take on the case but felt i should definetly take it to our local medical board. i did get the dr to change his way of doing things, it was never about money and it took alot of thought for me to pursue it in the 1st place. it was about an enormous lack of common sense and i am the one who still deals with it daily. see alawyer for your own piece of mind, and let him/her direct you as to how to handle it next. its not about the money
  15. today was my day too! dec 13 ! had my surgery around 8 am, home by 11:30 am . no problems really. just tired and a little sore. its now 12;45 am cant sleep, but doing much better than this afternoon, best of luck to you !
  16. all i can say is WOW! i just got banded this morning, and i hope i look half as good as you do in 8 months ! congrats!!
  17. good for you for taking control of your life! you sound like a strong minded girl, so dont let others push you around! hope things continue to go well for you, keep us posted!
  18. as of today dec 13th, 2011 i m finally banded ! !!! everything went smoothly. arrived at hosp 5;45 am , chatted with staff, iv inserted etc.... rolled me into surgery about 8, and next thing i know they're waking me up! Youre all done! released at 11am. home soon thereafter. .! not really in any pain, pain med so disgusting tasting i think ill stick to liquid tylenol,,. anyone have any advice on what to mix my crushed meds with so i can get them down?? other than the fact that my throat is very dry still and i feel like ive been ran over by a bus. im doing good. thankyou to all who contribute to this forum, ive learned so much and have a better idea what to expect now that im done. All the best to everyone !!!
  19. oh, and i forgot to tell you, there is a LapBand Support Group meeting tommorrow night, dec 13th 6pm at Harrison Hospital- Silverdale, in the Orchid Room. (downstairs- bottom level) great group of people, very supportive and helpful. i encourage you to go.i will be there if im feeling up to it, but kind of guessing i wont.
  20. congratulations! I am having my surgery TOMMORROW MORNING ,DEC 13th ! , CANT WAIT !!HAVE TO BE THERE 5;45 AM! dr neal is also my dr, and lucky for me he didnt put me on a diet for 2 weeks beforehand, he just told me not to gain any weight, and lose a few lbs if possible. i lost 5 in 2 weeks. today was pre-op, easy and quick. i will let everyone know how it goes tommorrow. congrats and best of luck to you!
  21. everybodys digestive system is different, but even one or two pcs of sf mints work like a quick laxative on me. i have no idea if that will change after being banded (dec 13th !) but i dont think i want to find out!
  22. i havent been banded yet(dec 13th) but is there anyway you could do a non food related project to keep your mind off of food? knitting, paint by numbers, puzzles, needlepoint, scrapbooking, sewing, yoga, etc......
  23. hilarious !! as you're typing i can hear you saying "i kill me ! "
  24. sending lots of support and hugs your way
  25. my surgery is also dec 13th, i am very lucky that my dr didnt make me go on a pre op diet. he just said dont gain any weight in the next 2 weeks, but if you could lose 10 lbs in the next 2 weeks that would be great, but if you dont thats ok.... ( ummmmm...... if i could lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks i wouldnt be here!!) anyway i just started eating a little less and have lost 5 lbs. best of luck to all of the"lucky 13 bandsters !!!!"
