incision sites
ok, i am not a shy person at all, but as far as showing off my body in pictures, that just doesnt happen because i hate my fat body! however, when i was considering this surgery i was curious as to what the scars were going to look like and i couldnt find any body volunteering to show there fat tummy's . anyways, i hope this doesnt gross anybody out, but i am going to post on my profile pictures of my incision sites at 4-5 days post op depending on how you count the days. my surgery was on aug 16th, and today is the 21st. i thought that i would show them as they heal so currious pre opers could kinda get an idea of what they should expect. mind you they are still healing, and brused. like i said, the belly aint pretty, but you dont have to look if you dont wanna . so go to my album on my profile if you want to see.

learning that my stomach is different
well this surgery was way easier than my tubaligation that i had in 03. mind you the doc cut me as big as a c section for it, but as far as going back to work after 5 days i think that it is totally duable. i would be able to go back to work today if i had to. but my job is an easy one; if your involves heavy lifting and such then i wouldnt recommend it. if its a desk job i think the only thing that you will really struggle with is staying awake. everyone is different though but from what you have told me i think you have a pretty high pain tolerance. i didnt have any nausea, but i make sure to take my anti nausea pills every 6 hours just in case. i think its great that you have lost so much so far. since you still have 2 weeks i totally recomend staying on that liquid diet for the whole time. the more that you lose pre op the faster you will recover post op. also keep walking as much as possible. it will help you after the surgery as well. if you can get up as soon as possible. i was walking before 2 hours after my surgery and it felt great to get up and walk. it releaved the pressure on my tummy. as far as pain meds. make sure to tell them if your pump isnt cutting it. most people dont realize it but you can ask for something else as well so that you wont be in any pain. they gave me demerol and it was great! it actually speeds up the recovery process, because the less pain that you are in the more active you can be and the more active the more blood flow and the more blood flow the faster you heal. my insicions are almost healed already. they look like little cat scratches right now. i hope this helps. good luck with your diet, and then the surgery, keep me posted.

3 DAYS POST-OP
i had my surgery on the 16th as well. i had my first bm yesterday, and i thought it was just a fart, boy was i wrong...lol anyhow, i have been doing well with chicken broth that is luke warm, as well as split pea soup luke warm. sf popsicles are good for the thirst, but i make sure to let it melt in my mouth first before swallowing otherwise it hurts the tummy being so cold. i only had the squirts for about 1 hour and then they were gone. i wouldnt recomend taking a anti diahrea med right now as it isnt good to take them when you havent even had surgery. most docs dont recomend you taking them at all because there is a reason that your body is getting rid of your bm that way. my surgery sites are already closed up and healing really nice. they look like cat scratches now. i didnt have a drain tube at all. question; is it common for the doc to just do steri strips on this operation? just currious, i thought that they would do staples or stiches, but am totally stoaked that he did steri strips. congrats on all the recent sleevers! we totally rock!!!

A little disappointed with myself...
i dont tell anyone about the surgery. so far all the weight i have lost except for ten pounds has been before my surgery. however when they do ask im gonna tell my truth, i worked hard, exercized and i ate right. all of which are true. about the surgery and being 'honest' about it. there is a reason there are so many hippa laws out there now. because it aint nobodys busness but your own. as for food being an addiction-that is sooooo true. i believe it is the hardest addiction to beat. the reason being is that we are all hard wired to eat as much as possible to stay alive. it is in our dna. the problem with that is now food is so available to us that we eat ourselves fat. the reason i think that it is the hardest addiction to beat is because when a drug addict or an alcoholic, or smoker, or any other addict is quiting they are supposed to totally avoid anything to do with the drug that they are addicted to. with a food addict they cant do that. you have to eat to survive. period. so how is one supposed to kick a habit that they have to go back to every day other wise they die. this surgery is not a 'cheat' it is like our rehab. it is proven that all diets dont work, eventually the person who succeeded in their diet will gain all of the weight back and then some, the reason...because they cant kick the habbit. i really feel sorry for anyone that thinks this is the easy way out, because they are only fooling themselves. people that dont have a weight problem are the lucky ones, they have good genes, or they struggle everyday to not over eat, or they exersize so much that they can eat what ever they want. however for the ones that are fat and simply believe that they can do it on their own will eventually change their mind and have some kind of surgery, or they wont and they will struggle with their weight until the day they die, which will be sooner then it should, because they could have been like us cheaters and kicked the habbit.... i hope i didnt offend anyone, this is my opinion, which everyone is intitled to, and also as well, anyone is intitled to disagree with me if they wish

Unable to update profile picture
hi chris you can change your picture by going to your profile and hit the settings, from there you go to change profile pic on the settings tab. then it gives you the option to brose your computer for pictures if you have a pic on your computer find it and then click on the one you want. then hit the upload button. it should automatically change the size for you and that should be it. if you wast one for your avatar, then you do the same thing only under the avatar button on your settings. as for adding a ticker you can do that by the same place only you go to your settings for change signature. go to wwwtickerfactory.com to make your own ticker and once you have done this you can copy the actual ticker and paste to the signiture page... i hope this helps and send me a message if you need further instructions. ---sassygirl .

When did you feel good post op
i didnt have a drain at all. i had 5 incisions and all of them are healing very well. they look like cat scratches really. doc used steri strips for them not stiches and im totally stoked because it doesnt look like there will be much of a scar. physically i feel really good. when i drink my food though i get pains for about 10-15 minutes after. i was able to have split pea soup luke warm tonight though that didnt hurt after. i was very pleased with that. as for vitamins i got the chewable gummies for kids. i dont care if i have to take more, they taste good and it doesnt hurt going down. i got the chewable calcium too, a little chalky but not that bad and didnt hurt going down. i still take the lortab but it doesnt really make me feel loopy it just kinda helps with the pain in the tummy, which is really not bad enough to stop me from doing the stuff i want to do. i have turned lactose intollerant now. i have never had this problem before but noticed it right away when trying dairy products. i get gassy and i have horrible tummy pain. i even feel a little nausea from it. i tried taking lactaid tonight before trying some yogurt smoothie, but it didnt seem to help at all and i ended up getting heart burn really bad afterwards as well. i think i will be laying off the dairy for a long time, at least until i can handle regular non dairy products without the tummy pains.

i gotta tell you
exactly why i choose not to tell anyone about it. unfortunatly you already did. let them think what they want, and after you have the surgery and they see the results let that speak for itself. as for taking the easy way out, that is a crock of ****. ummmm i had my surgery on the 16th and i havent been able to tolerate food since. when i swallow anything it is painful and i dont even want to do it. when they tell you your taking the easy way out why dont you ask them how easy they believe it would be for them to not ever be able to eat a 'normal' size meal ever again in their life? see what they say then.

Missing eating
i know right! people probably think its so bad, but the enjoyment of food to me is the taste. i can get that from it being in my mouth, why does it need to be in my stomach. i dont recomend doing it in public though lmfao!!!!

this feels like a little mini success story!
Well since my surgery i havent been able to eat anything without having pain after just one bite. You know that feeling of your tummy squeezing down on you. It also could be described as before having the surgery when you ate a potatoe to fast and it got stuck in your esophagus. Really hurts bad enough to make you not want to eat or drink anything at all, which it did for me. Well tonight I actually felt hunger pains for the first time since my surgery. Not the kind that just knaw at you, but just the little rumble in there saying, 'hey I could use a little something.' Well I decided to give some spit pea soup a try, and I ate it at just above warm. I took my first bite, and nothing, no pain at all. I was so happy! I took another small bite about 30 seconds after I swallowed the 1st and same thing! NO PAIN! I am so excited. I was able to actually eat about 1/4 cup of the soup and still havent had any complaints from my tiny little peanut gallery. I was starting to get a little upset thinking I was never going to be able to eat anything again.....So I consider this a little success story of my own! Please share when was the first time that you were able to eat something afteer your surgery without any pain....I think it might be helpful for those who are still having trouble with this and think that it will never get better. You know how it is when you are stuck in the momment and the feeling is that you will never be able to be normal again? Thank you all in advance!

just got sleeved 3 hours ago!
yes dr naik was the one that did my seminar...super cute. i do like my insicion sites that dr garcia left. there are five of them, 3 are less then 1/2 and inch and 2 are about 3/4 inch. he didnt use stitches just steri strips, and as of right now they look like little scratches. like from a cat. i think they will heal really great. i am definatly gonna write a letter because they were to wonderful to ignor them. they all asked me to come back and show my progress as well. let me know how your surgery goes...but im possitive that it will go wonderfully!!!

New to the site
welcome to the group! i love this place. its a wealth of knowledge, and chances are if you have a question about something related to the sleeve, about 30 others have an answer to that question. there are some really smart people in here that have been through it all just before you, and are willing to share their experiances just like their mentors did for them.
