im on day 3 and im right in the middle of the worst i think. i still dont regret my decision as im sure that things will improve since they have already begun to get better, a little at a time. congrats on the great weight loss results. your doing great!!

i definatly believe that no one should go it alone for this surgery. i was in bakersfield and if i didnt have the support of my husband and daughter i dont know how i would have made it. your going to be in a foreign country so having noone with you would definatly be terrible. get that extra fat off now, it will definatly make for an easier recovery. dont let this get you down, youll also have a couple more angels looking after you now as well. im sorry for your losses. best wishes to you.

yeah the meds work the opposite for me, if they are supposed to make you groggy, then i am wired. if they wire you then im groggy...lol

it was san juaquine in bakersfield, its a religous hospital, run by the 7th day adventists. i was unsure at first if i wanted to go to a "religous" hospital, but i tell you what, that hospital rocks! they have valle parking for you. you have not only your own personal nurse, but then you have a nurses assistant that does everything for you, then the person who brings your food comes in on the start of their shift and writes their name on the board for you as well as their personal number that you can reach them at if you need anything. not only does the food person have their own phone, your nurse, the assistant, the charge nurse, and anyone else that you need to reach at anytime, for anything. they are so organized and really make you feel special the entire time you are there. i remember for my whole stay i was saying "i cant believe this is a hospital, you guys are so wonderful" i really would recomend them to anyone!

thank you so much for all the wonderful support! im feeling a little better today, but that aching feeling is still there. im scarred to drink anything right now because of the pain. i think im gonna try to drink some warm broth as that is what they gave me in the hospital and i seemed to feel better aafter drinking it. im trying to take it easy for right now, but its hard with three kids. they all want mom to do something for them, lol. my youngest was "helping" me by bringing all of her laundry downstairs for me to do instead of me having to go get it myself. i told her very sweetly thank you but you can do your own laundry now. she didnt know what to think. lol....my husband has really stepped up for me even though its hard for him since he works the night shift. my teenager has all of her school prep to do and he has taken her for the first time ever to take care of it. im so happy to have such a wonderful man. i have pictures of him and i in my album if anybody wants to see. we have been married for 17 years now on sept 20th! high school sweet hearts. i dont know how the single people on here get along without a wonderful partner to help you guys! ttyl !!!

no i didnt have a catheter, the nurse told me it was from the meds they give you so that you dont spasm. I had a funny reaction from it where i couldnt get my urethra to relax enough for the urine to come out. it lasted the first 2 days, but i am all good now. pink- im totally addicted to this site, so a little thing like surgery wasnt going to keep me away lol im glad you are recovering well and that you are back online

i got out and am home! im very happy about that. the doc said i could be on full liquids. so my question is for people that have already been sleeved. when you drink something do you have this sort of aching feeling as it goes down? this has been happening to me, kinda like its hitten my stomach like a brick...i am making sure to swallow little amounts and very slowly. just wondering if this is a normal feeling, and if so does it go away anytime soon? im just hoping that it wont be hurting for long. i know i dont have a leak cause i just had the leak test this morning. thanks for any input that can be given!

im hoping that they let me out of the hospital soon! my leak test was negative, i have bowel sounds, all i need is the doc to give the go ahead! i already have my street clothes on (i changed when they had my iv hep locked) i think the nurses think im a lunatic, but i just want to get out of here and get home and start my new life....also i havent seen my youngest 2 children in 3 days. I miss my babies! i really am feeling so much better today. i have no hunger what so ever. i havent eaten real food in almost 5 days and my stomach doesnt even know what its missing...lol

well my surgery went off very well. i had no hernia, and my gallbladder didnt need to be removed. the whole surgery took less then 45 minutes. i felt great 2 hours post op. the doc gave me plenty of drugs to zap the pain away. then yesterday sucked bad! i was in more pain then the first day. the doc switched my pain meds again, and i am feeling better again. i am currently awaiting a leak test. i thought that i was going to get one yesterday automatically, but apparently my doc only has you do it if you have excess pain post op like im having. i have a high threshold for pain meds. what most people take to knock them out makes me wired. so they should be in here soon for the swallow test, and then hopefully i will be able to be discharged today (early) So im just wandering is neck pain after this surgery normal? ive heard of shoulder pain from gas, but i havent had that, as a matter of fact i havent had any gas at all. no farts he he i didnt realize how different my stomach was going to be after the surgery. i think that i sugar coated the procedure for myself. . i swallowed my water way to fast, as well as my broth and it hurt bad. it also made me burp and then have the hicups. that one sucked hard, lesson learned. well im gonna try to catch some z's before the swallow test c u l8er!!

congrats, and i will be cheering you on for a safe and speedy recovery! i'm hoping they let me out of the hospital today. i have been having a little problem with peeing, and swallowing hurts too. they are going to do a dye test this morning and i think if its clear i will be hitten the pavement fast!

ok my peeps, i am one day after getten my sleeve on i havent been able to sleep much i think its a combo of the meds and the hospital enviroment. i havent had any complications so far. (knock on wood) i really love this hospital even though its hard to sleep. all of the staff here are really sweet and kind. they seem like they really care about how you are feeling. it is a big change from the last hospital i stayed in when i had diverticulitis. so i will keep everyone posted on how im doing, im gonna go for a walk right now. ttyl

hi indy; i am 2 weeks shy of 35, i have no health problems related to my weight, i do have mitral valve prolapse and hearth palpitations. i just had my surgery last night at 5pm. it only took them 45 minutes and they were done. i had some pain, it felt like the begining of the stomach flu. take full advantage of the pain killers that they will give you. i have 3 kids and i know how you are feeling and the worries that are going through your head. you said that you are going to a good hospital, which is great, and im sure that you trust your surgeon or you wouldnt have picked him. remember that you are doing this to be healthier for your kids and around longer for them. my only regret at less then 24 hours out is that i didnt do it sooner so all my children would have had a skinny mom running and playing with them, going on theme park ride, all sorts of stuff. im confident you will be just fine, so put your worries out of your head because worrying about something that you cannot fix with worry is a waist of time and energry that could be spent through possitive thinking instead. there is a power to possitive thinking. you heal faster and have less pain. keep busy today so that the clock doesnt stop for you and before you know it your surgery will be done. oh and after surgery get up and walk as soon as they will let you. it relieves the pressure of the weight on your tummy and helps you feel better instantly as well as get rid of the gas. i couldnt even count how many times i have walked around the hospital so far. it really does help! i'l keep you in my thoughts and prayers, see you on the other side on the losers bench real soon

thank you again. thanks for telling me about the size, i havent been able to find anything about the bougie sizes. as a matter of fact i didnt even know what it was until i found out about it on this web site! obviously by the way i still cant sleep. i wish the good drugs would knock me out instead of making me want to go dance! lol

congrats sleeve sister!!!! i wouldnt worry about the pee thing, i have been having the same problem. i have been able to pee, but i have to sit there forever to get it going, plus it is really dark and i have to push it out. i didnt get a tube. i am wondering why some people get it and others dont? mabye just some people have more Fluid build up? they wouldnt give me anything to take away the dry mouth so i had my daughter get some paper towels wet and stick them in a baggy to wet my mouth because it is all dried out. they said it was from the anti nausea med that they put into my iv. i have been able to walk around the hospital (inside) doing laps. i have taken 3 different walks since the surgery going around 4 times each, it really helps me feel better. it relieves the pressure on my stomach. well congrats again keep me posted on your recovery as well

ok, well i am on demerol and morphine right now, causes me to be wired and cant sleep, however im in minimal pain right now because of those beaautiful drugs. i feel like i have the stomach flu, the best way to describe it. i went pee as soon as i got into my own room. i also went on a walk after about 1 hour post op. it does feel good to walk as many people have said on here. its helping to get rid of the gas. as for the gas, this is gonna sound bad, but dont judge me please...when i was younger i used to smoke pot and if anyone has ever smoked it then you know it gives you this feeling like you have air trapped in your lungs and your esophogus and you could just get it out if you burped really good, however you are never able to get rid of it until the high goes away. that is how this gas feels right now. its not painfull to me, just annoying. im not supposed to have anything by mouth, but i snuck some gum in because i had a cotton mouth really bad since i havent drank anything since 12am this morning. none of the nurses have said anything about it, and im not truely putting it into my stomach anyways, its just helping my cotton mouth. oh, by the way, i got the whole room to myself! its a singe bed room only so i know i wont have to share with anybody! which is great because i dont really feel like getting sick from somebody else right now. anyhow, i guess i'l post more later......I'm finally on the other side sitten on the losers bench!!!!!!!

they never gave me a foley, or at least thats what they said. thank you peeps for all the support! i usually have the reverse reactions to medications, so when they give me something that causes people to be drowsy, it wires me. i havent slept at all since they woke me up after the surgery. the nurse just came in and gave me another shot of demerol because the morphine is just dulling the pain a little bit. i have learned so much about health care in these past few years and one of those things is to be your own advocate. if you dont speak up and let then know whats going on with your pain youre only hurting yourself. i used to tough it out when i was younger because i didnt want to look week, but now i know it doesnt make you look weak, it helps you heal faster. anyhow, the demerol is doing its job now. pain is gone. the pain feels like i am really constipated, or kinda like the stomach flu before you know its the stomach flu. does that make sence? basically what im trying to say is its like when you start yo feel like you are coming down with a stomach virus, but you arent quite sure its that or just having to really poop. anyhow before my surgery i asked the doctor what gauge bougie he was going to use, because i didnt know there were different sizes that doctors make the sleeve into until i read it on this site. so he said he was using a 32 gauge. my question is, is that on the small side of stomachs after vsg or is it bigger, or even the norm?

thank you ladies. i am in my room now. i am in pain but they are trying to keep on top of it so that im not hurting. the feeling is kinda like haveing the stomach flu. i hate that feeling, but it is better then i expected. i already peed and walked 4 laps around the hospital floor, and it was only 2 hours after my surgery! my surgery was over before 6pm, and it is only 815pm now! i hope my recovery goes well. ttyl

Hello all! Im at San Joaquin community hospital in Bakersfield california. I got sleeved at 5pm today. When I first woke up from surgery I was in a lot of pain. I had a morphine pump, which i pushed but got no relief from. I let them know right away that it was not helping and they gave me phentenol. That helped alot. Since being placed in my actual room the doctor ordered me demerol every 3 hours as well as the morphine pain pump. As long as I stay on top of the meds I feel ok, still tender, soar, but nothing i cant handle. I got up to pee at 645pm, and asked the nurse if I could walk a while since i was already up. They were all for it so I took 4 trips around the hospital until my iv machine started beeping at me to return to the room. The doctor ordered me npo until tomarrow so im extremely thirsty! they wont even give me one of those popsicle spunges to wipe the inside of my mouth with, so i had my daughter go get a paper towel and get it wet so i could wet my mouth with it. love the hospital so much! they have valle parking so you dont have to drive around looking for a spot, and you are not supposed to even tip them so you dont have to pay any money. you just pull up to the front of the hospital, get out, get your ticket and go in to the hospital. when you go in the lady at the front desk gets a leason (not sure if i spelled that right) that escorts you straight to your room where they get you preped for surgery. the only thing i havent liked was that they had to push back my surgery time because of 2 emergency OR visits. but that is perfectly understandable. Anyhow, will keep you all posted on my recovery!
