I live in Texas as well and we adopted our oldest son who is bi-racial (black/white). If adoption is a route you want to consider, let me know. I researched several agencies and may be able to help you a bit. We had some family members we were concerned about, but before we adopted we commited to the idea that our child came first and we must be willing to cut off anybody we felt necessary. The reality is, even our child was lily white, do we want them to be around hate for others? By the way, our families adore him. With the exception of one great-aunt, it has been a near-perfect experience.

This may be a crude question, but here goes. I plan on being a self-pay. If something like this happens to me, will my insurance cover the secondary surgery?

I will probably have to self-pay, but I keep the deduction in mind. Once you have hit the amount required for the deduction, all of your medical expenses can be written off that year.

I am a teacher and plan on having the surgery over summer break and not even mentioning it to my co-workers. When we come back, I'll say I am on Weight Watchers or something.

I am hoping to be banded this summer. It sounds like yours is working great! May I ask you some questions? How long after you made the decision to be banded, until you actually were banded? Did you have doubts in between? What all testing was required and did insurance cover your surgery? Thanks, Kris
