About Me

  • Gender
    Female
I had a failed fundoplication for reflux in 1998. By 2005 my reflux was worse than ever. My gastroenterologist wanted to blame my weight/eating habits for my severe reflux. She wouldn't see me until her next available appointment in 3 months! I was sleeping sitting up & having severe reflux nightly! My husband and I decided to go to Mexico and have the fundoplication reversed and have a band put on. I had an endoscopy while there and they found the fundoplication had been sucked up into my upper right chest and was making the reflux worse rather than better. The surgery took over 4 hours. The doctor said it was his most difficult yet. I had a massive hiatal hernia and my hiatus was badly torn. Since the lap band my reflux is gone. I still have more weight to lose, but I hope to eventually get to goal. I'm very pleased with my band. I just need to let it do its job and stop working against it!
