  1. I love the premeir Protein shakes. As a matter of a fact, they are the ONLY Protein Shakes I can drink since surgery. All of the others upset my stomach. The problem is that I remember my nut telling me that for a protein to count, the first ingredient has to be whey isolate. Of course it's not even listed in these shakes. Does anyone know what's so important about the whey isolate? Shouldn't any protein be good??
  2. The only thinkg I regret about this surgery is the amont of pills/vitamins I now have to take. I hate taking pills. I currently take ---- 1 Multivitamin 2 Calcium 1 Iron 1 Biotin 1 b-12 1 b-50 What Vitamins do you take? And how long must we take them, forever? Anyone out there who has been able to stop taking them?
  3. When can you start eating beef? My doc says 6 months after surgery. But I'm goingout to dinner with the family today to cracker barrel and I really love their roast beef dinner. I know I won't be able to eat it all but it's so tender I thought maybe it wouldn't be a problem. Or should I just stick witht he drilled chicken tenders? BTW -- I'm a little over 2 months out from surgery and down 59 lbs!!
  4. I was in ICU because they ouldnt wake me from surgery and I still only spent 1 night. Can't believe insurance would pay for 4 days. They try to get you out as quick as possible.
  5. On 3/6/2012 I had VSG surgery and yes, it was the best decision I ever made. My life has changed soo much and all for the good. I exercise every day I can bend over and tie my shoes I can cross my legs I no longer need seat belt extender on airplanes I can wear heels I wore a dress for the first time in 8 years 2 weeks ago I went hiking with my grand kids yesterday and we had to stop for rests because THEY were tired, not me! I have soo much energy I feel good about myself again I went from a size 24-26 to a 12 I fit in a booth at restaurants I can mow my own grass(dont have to hire someone to do it this year) I could go on forever about the benefits of this surgery, instead let me just show you
  6. Thank you everyone! If you are just starting this journey, remember the sleeve is a tool. Follow the rules and you too will look fabulous in a year. And yes, I am a prod grandma too!!
  7. I will be one year out on 3/6. My family has a nasty stomach virus going around that lasts for 3 - 4 days. I am scared to death if getting it. I'm scared of what it will do to my sleeve. So I was wondering if anyone had a stomach virus after surgery and did it cause any problems with your sleeve.

You've lost 50 lbs in 4 months and gone from a 24/26 to a 14/16 in 4 months. How can you say it's not working? How can you say you're a slow loser? That's about 12 lbs per month. Your sleeve is working great. I'm 10 months out and have gone from a 24/26 to a 12/14. I've lost 125 lbs which is about 12 lbs per month. So I think you're about normal.
  9. I did it! Today I weighed in at 199.6. That's 118 lbs gone forever in 8 months. I love my sleeve. My goal was to hit onderland by Halloween. So I'm a little late, but better late than never. If someone had told me last thanksgiving that I would Weigh less than 200 lbs this year I would not have believed them. Next goal 189 by Christmas.
  10. Wow!! You look gorgeous!! You could be the poster girl for VSG surgery.

  12. Thank you for this post. I am 8 months out and I eat between 1000 and 1400 calories a day. I exercise 5 - 6 days a week. I have never had a stall and I consistently lose at least 2 lbs. week. I am down 114 lbs and I'm loving my sleeve! My surgeon would prefer at I only eat 500 - 800 calories a day but I just can't do it. I don't understand how people do it. I am happy with my weight loss the way it is and I'm glad to see I'm not alone. Thanks again for the post.
  13. Congratulations on making goal! You look beautiful!!!!!!!

    Onederland!

    Yeah!! Great job!!!
  15. Yesterday was my 6 month checkup with my surgeon. I was so excited to go to the appointment because Tuesday I reached 101 lb weight loss. Instead of telling me how good I was doing, I got a lecture about eating too much! He asked me what I ate the day before and I told him Greek yogurt and a sugar free Starbucks frap for Breakfast, tilapia for lunch, Premier Protein shake mid afternoon, chicken for dinner and a sugar free Popsicle for snack. He said I am eating 5 times a day and should only be eating 3 meals a day. He also said I am eating too many calories. I get in between 1000 and 1200 a day, but I do 40 minutes on the treadmill at least 5 times a week which burns more than 300 calories. He said I should only eat 3 times a day and stay between 600 and 800 calories a day. Then he said forget about the calories all together and just eat 3 small meals and I will do fine. I am really struggling with his advice. What I am doing is working just fine. I am very happy losing 101 lbs in a little over 6 months. I've decide not to follow his advice and to stick with what is working for me. I've NEVER hit a stall and the weight loss has been steady. Why mess with it? How much is everyone else eating at 6 months out?
  16. The first/before picture is the day I started the preop diet at 317. The second/during picture is today at 215. I say during because I still have 60 to 70 more lbs to lose.

    Working Out

I started my exercise routine by walking on an outside trail at our county park. Once it started getting too hot to be outside I invested in a treadmill because I too feel out of place at the gym. Buying the treadmill was the best thing I could have done. I do 40 minutes of walking 5 - 6 days a week. Find what works best for you and just do it. :-)

    Anesthesia Worry

Sorry to tell you this but yes I have a hard time waking up. In the last 5 years I've had 3 surgeries and it seems like it gets harder for them to wake me up after each surgery. I had my VSG surgery on 3/6 and I woke up in the ICU. The surgery went well and the doctor went to tell my family that it went well. When he returned to e OR I was sitting up and they were trying to wake me up. He said a all of a sudden I fell over and went back to sleep. From what I've been told they worked on me for over an hour in the OR trying to wake me enough to send me to recovery room. Instead of waking up, I actually stopped breathing so they had to reintubate me. He said they were starting to panic when he told them that I told him I'm hard to wake up. He shared this with the OR tem so they decided to take me to ICU and let me wake up on my own terms. I had surgery at 1 and didn't wake up until 9PM. It was scary for me and my family waking up in ICU with that 'thing' down my throat. But good news is that once I was up and the breathing tube was removed I was fine. Luckily I warned my doctor about this problem. He told me to ALWAYS remember to tell the surgeon and the anesthesiologist about my difficulty in waking up when I have surgery and everything should be fine. I wish you luck with your surgery and waking up. I must say if I had to do it all over even with the stint in ICU, I would do it again in a heartbeat. This surgery is the best thing and I wish I would have done it years ago. It's only been 6 months and as of this morning I've lost 99 lbs and feel great. Btw, even though I was in ICU, I was discharged from the hospital the following day and never had to take any pain meds. I've been very lucky as I've not had any complications and e weight keeps falling off (knock on wood...haha) Best of luck! You won't regret it.
  19. Throw away those baggy cloths! I too am a professional and when I started wearing the smaller cloths, I got so many compliments on my weight loss. It felt great. My first thought was wow I must look good in cloths that actually fit. Try it! I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
  20. You look terrific and are inspiration to all of us.
  21. You look fantastic! Great job
  22. One night for me and I even wound up in ICU because they couldn't wake me from the anesthesia

    Mulitvitamins Make Me Sick!

I also get sick taking any Multivitamin on an empty stomach. I have found though that if I take the same multivitamin right after I eat, I don't get sick. So I suggest try taking them right after a meal and see if that helps the nausea.
  24. Was sleeved on 3/6. Including my preop weight loss, I am down 75 lbs. I feel so good. My back doesn't hurt any more. I can walk without having to sit and rest very coup,e of minutes. I can fit in a booth and an airplpane seatbelt. I'm going to the beach the end of the month and I can't wait. This year I will be able to walk in the sand and get down and build sandcastles with my grand kids. But. I still have a long way to go andim still FAT! When I read on this board about people who started this journey, wher I am today, it depresses me and all my good feelings go down the drain. They talk about how bad they felt when they were the weight I am now, I think wow I think I must not feel as good as I think I do. Then when I look in the mirror I still see the fat lady and again i think I must not feel as good as I think I do. What a roller coaster this ride is! But I must say I am so glad I got on the ride and I can't wait until I get to the end andi see the skinny lady in the mirror.
