    So Happy...so Sad...

I believe the bmi has been lowered. If you have gerd, that should show medical cause. Call your insurance company, find out who reviews if you file an appeal. Write a letter, let them know that you have followed their policy and qualify. State it like "I plan to have the surgery since I have met your policy". I printed out my insurance company's policy, highlighted the criteria and sent it to them

Severe Pain In Neck And Shoulders

It should get better with time. My doctor said its referred pain. Nerves above your stomach run to your shoulder. Many people experience shoulder pain, especially if you had a hernia. I still have referred pain if I eat too fast or if I don't chew my food well enough. No fun, but, it will get better and managable.

    Does This Really Work

I love my band. My loss has been slow, 20lbs over four months. I feel great and am excited about the future. The band is a TOOL, you must remember that. It is not the answer. But, it works. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Best of luck to you!

    Scheduled For Feb 3Rd!

So excited for you! I was banded September 29th and I remember all those crazy feelings right before. The day I had my surgery, I began my journey to better health. My advice is to relax as much as you can. Stock up on Protein drinks, clear broth and popsicles. Maybe begin a LapBand journal. Remember that the band is a tool, not a miracle cure. But, it is the best thing that has happened to me concerning my health. I've only lost about twenty pounds, but, I feel great. Plus, my latest bloodwork is "outstanding" according to my doctor. Best of luck!
  12. What in the heck is going on....okay, I know what is going on. I have been eating the wrong things. I do good, I do bad, I am having such a hard time finding consistancy in my eating. I'm exercising 4 or 5 times a week. I keep falling off the wagon. Maybe because I can still pretty much eat anything. I've eliminated all white flour and sugar as well as sodas. One day I weigh 188, the next day I weigh 191. This has been going on a while. I blamed the holidays. But, that over. I don't want this to be a "poor me" post, but, jeeze.....how do I find consistancy? Do I need to began a food journal? Do I need to go back to the basics? I need help, but, I'm not sure what help I need. Maybe I need accountability. I have none. No husband, no one telling me I need to get with the plan. I know this, argh.... Maybe some of you can speak to me with the voice of experience. I would truly appreciate it. Jackie O.

Gaining And Losing The Same Three Pounds, Argh!

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to begin a food journal again. It does help to see it on paper. I try to stay on a high Protein plan, but, have had some baked chips and graham crackers. Tuesday has been pizza night at my home for years. I was hoping to eat just one slice, but, it turns out I can eat three. That brings me to restriction of my band. I have a 10cc band and its half way full at 5ccs. Next week is fill number three. Here is the plan: 2 liters of Water, 64 grams of protein, exercise, believe

    So Bummed!

I've learned that being banded is not the entire answer. I can still eat pretty much anything I like. I've lost right at 20lbs and have been stuck here through the holidays. (gained 3, lost 3) I will never give up. I exercise regularly and eat the right things almost every day. If I fall off the wagon, I get right back on. food is my drug, so, I just cannot have goodies in the house. I have begun to weigh more often. I want to lose weight so badly. I have realized the band is a tool and I have to use it. Whatever it takes is what I say. Make a plan and follow it. You can do this!
  16. I had all the same worries, so, I sat down and wrote out a list of pros and cons. The reasons to get LapBand were so much greater than the reasons not to. I even asked two friends that have been banded these two questions: Is this your new normal? and...Are you glad you had the surgery. Both said "absolutely". I was so scared of the unknown. All the "what ifs" drove me crazy. But, I knew it was the right thing for me. It is a tool, pure and simple. I have been very fortunate, no ill affects whatsoever. I love my band. Best of luck to you, whatever you choose.

    I'm New

Welcome! I too have arthritis (osteo) and while ibuprofen does come in liquid form, I just bite a tablet into little pieces. Ibuprofen works best for me. I do not take as much since beginning to lose weight. My joints are already feeling so much better. Congratulations on getting banded!
  18. I have been losing weight slowly. While, I would love to wake up and see the scale drop down five pounds at a time, I realize slow and steady is my course. During the holidays I gained a few pounds, but, they are coming right back off. Tomorrow its back to work and back to the gym! I hate the eliptical, but, it works. My band is working too. I cannot eat as much as I could, yea!

    Left Shoulder Pain

Yes, it is normal. Some people have "referred pain". My doctor said it is because you have nerves that run from the top of your stomach to your left shoulder. I've been banded three months and if I eat too fast, or eat the wrong foods, I still have shoulder pain. Its a big reminder that I need to eat slowly, which is still hard for me. The initial shoulder pain will subside. Many do not have it at all.

    What Do U Say.....

I've been an open book. It took a lot of thought and effort just to get to the point of surgery. I tell people that Lap Band is right for me. I've tried every diet in the book, only to gain back what I lost. I also tell them that it is a tool, not the complete answer. Fact is, I can still eat pretty normally. I have been banded three months and lost 20lbs. Slow and steady is my plan and I absolutely love my band. For the first time, I feel in control.
  21. I feel your pain, literally! I have fallen way off the wagon and its hard getting back on. Banded for almost 3 months, lost 20 lbs, and now up by 2. Eating the wrong things and eating too fast, argh. Learning the hard way, the pain when something gets stuck is BAD. Live and learn to LIVE with my band. For me, the mental part of losing weight is the hardest thing to deal with.
  22. Welcome! You are on your way!

Now I Can Eat Anything :(

I feel your pain. I have been beating myself up ever since Thanksgiving. I've had one fill and can eat anything. Today, its back to the gym. I brought my high Protein shakes and healthy food to work. Hopefully, will get back and stay on track. Stressing about Christmas and I'm a stress eater. Wish I could shake that old habit!!

    Need Serious Advice/Help!

Like the others said, your rash sounds like its from something they swabbed you down with in surgery. powder with Zinc Oxide is great. I had a BAD reaction (rash & blisters) after a c-section years ago. After the doctor prescribed every ointment in the pharmacy, I put Ammons powder on my tummy when I got home and viola, the rash got better. I was banded on September 29th and had many of the same concerns you have expressed. A few weeks after getting banded, you get hungry and want regular food. Well, I never thought I would puree vegetable soup, but it was delicious. It wasn't pretty, ha, but, yummmmmmmmy. My LapBand experience gets better every day. I have my down days, but, try and push through. Old habits, like eating at night, have been so hard for me to control. Last night, I wanted to eat SO badly. But, it was 9 o'clock. I had a sugar free popsicle and went to bed. This morning, I was so happy. It sure beats waking up and saying...why did I eat that. Sorry, got off track a little. What i'm trying to say is it gets better
