Driver Deb reacted to Rebel in backing out
    Hello there,
I have been lurking the past couple of weeks on here but it was your post that made me register. I too am having the sleeve surgery but on September 6th. I am on day two of my 2-week pre-op diet and have had some of the same feelings you are experiencing. I did the research, went to the seminar, did ALOT of praying and every step of the way God has removed any obstacles. I was approved 2 weeks to the day after attending the seminar and for me, at least, it seems as if this is God's will.

It is difficult maintaining this pre-op diet and I had horrible headaches yesterday. But, I am praying for God to give me relief from them and the strength to continue because I know it will all be worth it. I have a young child as well and can already see the things that I am missing out on with him. Before kids I dreamed of taking them to amusement parks and Water parks and playing ball in the yard but with my present weight I am not able to go to amusement parks and I am too tired to play ball in the yard.

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in January and also have diabetes. For me, this surgery will offer me the tool I need to control the amount I eat and help me to get healthy again. It won't take away my arthritis but I can imagine that the weight loss will definitely help my joints, etc.

Some days I wake up excited, raring to go and others I think what in the heck am I doing? For me, I just continue to pray about it and take one day at a time.

I don't know if this helps or not, I hope it does. But, you have to make the decision for yourself. My doctor said it best, it is scary to have surgery, bad things can happen but what's even scarier is to do nothing at all. Because then, bad things will happen. Just pray about it and go with your heart.

    Take care.

Kala, I was depressed to tears right after my surgery for a good two weeks. I finally got really stoned, had a couple of whiskies, made a party of one, and was OK the next morning. I don't recommend doing that, but do do something to break the spell. Best wishes.

Lissa! Welcome! I am a youtube freak, so I would suggest watching some youtube videos about the surgery, That's what I've been doing, it's so incredibly informative to have it directly from someone's mouth what you experience and what to expect, and also how to prepare
Good Luck in your Journey!! <3

I was wondering the same thing as Jensharley - could she be thinking that since you are "dieting" you aren't cooking and she's trying to help out? But, you know her so if you're seeing passive aggressive it also fits. Your best revenge is to not let her know she's getting to you. Smile and say thank you and then throw it away after she's gone if you have to. Good luck!

Just a thought here but could she be thinking since you aren't able to eat you might not be cooking and the food and treats were for the family? She could be thinking she is helping you. If that is the case maybe explain that the food gifts are great and everyone appreciates them but maybe she can keep them at her house and they can come over to eat them.

    Hi Kim-
take your classes, and just keep in mind, the big picture- which gets smaller
diff. surgery for diff. people... My wife is a RnY, I am a sleeve..
she losses consistently, I drop big numbers and stall out...
she has had very little probs post surgery, I have had my share...and then some...
Other sleevers have had no probs eating. and other RnY's still eat softs 1 year out...
focus- follow the plan- talk with the Doc. and the Psyc. and your answer will come to you in time...
I made up my mind about 9 weeks into my classes, week 5, I wasn''t going to do it.
week 7 and 8 I was a complete basket case... on the fence- off the fence...
in fact I was not convinced, even though I had a surgery date. knowing I could back out...
My wife, and the Psyc. gave me the answers I was looking for.
the surgeon on pre-op visit- confirmed it all up.
the week prior to surgery I was in total peace.

I went to my first orientation at the beginning of June in Fremont. Then 2 weeks later to seminar. I had already started working on my 10%. I met goal about 3-4 weeks ago and my surgery date is 8/30/11. Richmond is A LOT faster than Fremont. The surgeon said in general it'd a 4 month process.

I had my orientation in October sometime, met my surgeon in November, and had my surgery May 9th. I did everything by the book and followed the rules, they were really slow to book my appointments and get me thru.
I was fine with it because it gave me a chance to lose a BIG chunk of my weight pre-op and really work on myself and take in what I was doing and do ALOT of research!!
I also had to do extra testing and meet with my surgeon a couple extra times that most don't have to do. That took a little extra time too. It usually doesn't take that long tho. You really are in control of your destination with them. If you want to do it in 3 months, you can if you are motivated.
    Good luck to you!!

You had a very wonderful and thoughtful response and showed a lot of poise in the situation. I probably would have told her where to put it and just walked out. Now you have the upper hand. Just start working out there, losing weight with the help of the VSG, and shrink before her eyes. Maybe you can be an exaxmple for her and she'll change her mind about her son. That would also be a win-win! Good luck!

I attended orientation at Richmond on June 14 also and my surgery is scheduled for August 17, so about 2 months from orientation. It's as quick as you want it to be, it's in your hands!

Are you talking about the intro class in Richmond? If so, I went to it June 14th and I'm being sleeved Monday, August 8th. I called for a cancellation for the surgeon appointment the day after the class and they got me in to see Dr. Baggs on June 16th (my original surgeon appt was July 15th). From there, I went to every appointment they booked, my only hold up was hitting my goal weight to get in to see the nurse case manager, which took me about 10 extra days. Still, less than 2 months from my first class in Richmond is pretty dang good! It's all about how motivated you are. If your very motivated, like I was, it'll move really fast.

    Hi-
    13 weeks.
I pushed it out 4 extra weeks...
I did it by the book- lost my 10% went to the 14 week class, hit every appointment, and all pre screening tests.
I was lucky I just went through it all with my wife- she was 10 weeks, and she was by the book also-
though she choose RnY, 6 months out she has no probs- and is over 140# down.
she dropped over 5# last week while on vacation- I'm on a stall ...
    sleevers do that .
