I lost A LOT of hair after surgery. it started about 6 months post sleeve surgery and it continued for months. The greatest thing was to make sure you are using a sulfate free paraben free Shampoo, or even a cleanser. I invested in the WEN hair care system, and it really helped. Before surgery, my hair was my security blanket. It hid the neck fat , thinned my face out ( or so i thought). And helped to mask the double chin. After I started losing my hair, i started to cut it shorter and shorter, and now have the cutest short pixie shag. I color it a nice bright red ( think sharon osborne color) and now with the new 130 less me, i love the sassiness and my husband loves the sexiness of my short hair. I still use the WEN hair cleansers, and sulfate free shampoos, the Hair loss has stopped, and it helps to not fade my sexy red color so quickly! Moral of the story....its a new you...try a new doo!!!
I'm 1 year 3 mos post op, down 130 pounds, and as my doctor says...at my soul weight of 160. Loving life!

I noticed this as well, and I believe someone else posted something very similar to yours asking the same question before. I think it is because this surgery, by itself, is still to new. There is no standard because there hasn't been enough time to form one. The surgeon's are still learning the in's and out's of the details. I'm sure in 10 years there will be more consistency, like you would find with other general surgery procedures.
I think the people who are most successful are the people who took the time to do their research and chose the method that worked for them. I have learned that I am very carb-sensitive. If I am over a certain amount I don't lose, but the same is true for being too low. I know my limits and stick to them. I also think the people who are the most successful are the ones who make active changes in their beyond what the sleeve does. The sleeve doesn't prevent us from drinking milkshakes, etc. The people who are successful avoid these things for the most part. They simply learn how to do the treats as that, as treats. At least that is what I am trying to do.
Don't forget if you are around the 3 week mark, you are most likely going to stall soon. That seems to be normal no matter what diet you are on. I think it is the body catching up to the surgery, like your body just said "oh shoot, what the heck??" and kinda slows down until it gets used to it, then you start losing again. You could also be a stair-case loser... where you stall for a couple weeks and then drop and then stall and then drop. Don't be too worried about the scale, just remember it is a marathon and not a sprint!

Hi, I'm Jackie. I'm being sleeved by Dr. Kelly in Tijuana on December 7th. I'm a 38 year old Mom of 2 great kids. I work full-time in educational administration and I am 1 course away from my Masters degree in Adult Ed.
I've been overweight most of my adult life and even when I was thin I thought I was fat because my self esteem was so far in the toilet. These days I've got a good handle on who I am and what I have to offer and I think I'm pretty awesome. I just have this 100lb weight hanging around. Everytime I fail at a diet I begin that downward spiral on my self esteem. Well, not any more!!! I'm getting sleeved and it will be my safety belt strapping me on the wagon!
I have realized that I don't deserve to be fat and looked down upon and judged. I deserve to be healthy, active, and fit and I'm going to get there.
My Therapist told me a few weeks ago that people tend to get what the expect and for years I have expected to be fat. After December 7th, I expect to be thin.

You are right! I love your attitude, and I'm working on developing that attitude in myself. I've been fat for so long, it will be an adjustment for sure.

illgeturhairdid reacted to FuriosMommy in Question For Ladies With Pcos Who Got Pregnant After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Hi ladies, I just wanted to chime in on this topic. I'm currently 11 months post op from my sleeve and I am just about 7 months pregnant with twins. My surgeon advised to wait 12-18 months which was the plan. We were using condoms and apparently my body decided to function that month and now there will be 2 more. We're excited to be having twins, but it certainly wasn't planned. Luckily at the time my weight loss was slowing down and my Vitamin levels were all great. The twins are big and strong and growing very well. At the time of getting pg I was down 80lbs. I was so sick in the first trimester that I lost an additional 20lbs. As of today I have gained 2lbs from my conception weight. My doctor would like me to gain another 10lbs, so we'll see. As far as PCOS prior to having my sleeve I never ovulated on my own. I did spontaneously one month when I was at my highest weight of 338 and I conceived my son. After my son was born in August 2009 we decided not to prevent pg because it took me 2 years to conceive him. From August 2009 to January 2011 I didn't ovulate once that I know of. I had my surgery on 1/4/2011 and started using ovulation tests just to see if my body was responding to the weight loss. I never did get a positive ovulation test until the day the twins were conceived. Of course we had already DTD and used a condom, but after seeing that bright positive ovulation test later that day I just knew it had happened.
But all things considering things are going really well. I've been really lucky to have such a healthy pregnancy so close to having my surgery. Luckily with VSG we don't have malabsorption issues so if we do end up accidentally getting pg close to surgery it's not the end of the world. It's not recommended, but would be as bad as say RNY or DS. From my first prenatal visit on my doctor wasn't worried in the slightest. I've seen the same OB for 8 years now and she was my acting primary to help me get my VSG. She wasn't concerned. She knew that carrying twins so close to VSG but being 80lbs lighter would be far better than being pregnant close to 350lbs again.
I'm scheduled for a repeat c-section on Feb. 7th to have these munchkins then I'll be back on plan trying to lose the rest of my weight. I'm tall so my goal is 175lbs. I haven't gained much with my pregnancy, but I still have a long ways to go to reach my weight loss goal. I would recommend getting as close to goal as possible before TTC. I just think things would be easier after.

Hi all, I'm Danielle. I'm 27, not married and no kids. I have been overweight since puberty due to PCOS and bad choices because I felt like there was no help for me anyway. I had been tossing around the idea of WLS for a few months silently to myself, when I saw a friend from HS I hadn't seen in almost a year. He was so concerned about the weight gain in that amount of time that it just killed me and I knew I had had enough. That was a Saturday and the following Monday I made the appointment for my seminar.
My cousin and I went on this journey together. Due to her insurance her options were LapBand or Bypass. She chose Bypass. We were both operated on December 5, 2011 by Dr. Cerabona and Dr. Maffei. We were roommates in the hospital and have been a major support system for each other.
Since coming home yesterday I have lost the 5 pounds gained from fluids in the hospital as well as an additional 5 pounds for a total loss of 10 pounds since Monday morning. I won't lie and sugar coat this surgery. I wish someone had prepared me a little better. It is painful. I have no interest in eating or drinking and it is a real struggle to get in even half of the fluids I'm supposed to get. Partly I think that might be because I am letting myself sleep if I am tired.
I obviously can not wait to be skinny, but that is not the real reason I had this surgery. For years now I have felt helpless against PCOS and felt like it was robbing me of the future I wanted for myself..... So when I met with my surgeon and he told me that this surgery can reverse up to 80% of PCOS cases I have not looked back for a second. I will be a mother! And even if this surgery doesn't lead to biological children I will be a healthier mother to those I am blessed to adopt. It will happen.
I wish you all the best of luck on your journeys. If your surgery is later in the month and you have any questions please feel free to ask, I would be happy to answer if I can. The pain is worth it. To lose 10 pounds in this amount of time is just unreal to me! I know that the rate of loss will not be like this even a week from now, but it makes the pain easier.

Girl, so happy for you! I was also sleeved on Monday at Westchester Medical Center in NY. Does the incision they removed your stomach through bother you at all? I'm good except for that incision.

I'm so happy for you! You are proof that hard work and not giving up really can get us where we want to be. Congratulations on feeling good in your own skin! Since I have always been big I totally get the appeal of fitting into a size zero- hearing you say that you are happy NOT being a size zero is encouraging! Thanks for all that you do for us here.

illgeturhairdid got a reaction from Fireflyx in Ashamed of WLS?
When I first made the decision I shouted it from the roof top because I was so happy and excited, now I wish I had been a little more particular about who I shared the information with. After a particularly miserable diet earlier this year that everyone knew about, and the subsequent weight regain and extra gain I had been feeling so bad about myself. I wanted people to know I wasn't just letting myself go and letting myself get fatter, I was taking control!
No one that I have shared with has been mean or rude. There have been questions and concerns because they want me to be as informed as possible before I jump into this. The rudest/meanest comments I've heard have been from my mother- but since she weights over 500lbs and does nothing about it- I say screw her!
I know there is a great stigma associated with WLS, however I think there is more to be ashamed about in NOT doing something about it! Good luck to you all!

illgeturhairdid got a reaction from BenisaMartim4 in December sleevers!
I'm so excited to see how many people are taking this journey the same day I'm scheduled for. Again, I'm not 100% convinced my surgery will be December 5, but my surgeons office is, so keeping my fingers crossed. This is such a great thread!
My highest weight was 308. I'm currently hanging around 298/297. I'm trying really hard to get at least another 5 pounds off before surgery. Currently I take size 3x/4x up top and 18/20s on bottom. I have what they call the "apple" shape. Hoping to become more of a hour glassy gourd lol. I've been trying to do two shakes a day lately to help the scale move more, but it's so hard to do! Replacing Breakfast with a shake is so easy, but lunch or dinner gets tough.
    Cheers everyone! We're awesome!

Hi all, December 5, 2011 here with Dr. Kaul at Westchester Medical Center in NY. I only have to do a two day pre-surgery liquid diet as they've had me doing low carb high Protein that has produced enough weight loss results.
