  1. Ok, some questions here that have been bothering me:

    1. Why do they advertise pizza on a weight loss website/forum? The ads are random, I get food ones, dating sites and some wls ones. I just ignore them ads pay for the site to be free.

    2. Why do hospitals require you to shower with the stinkiest soap ever? Its cheap best bet pack your own favourite soap.

    3. How long is the average stay on the various levels of the post-op diet? Like how long on liquids? Mushies? This varies from doctor to doctor. You should check with your doc or nut and see what they recommend. I personally was on a 10 day clear liquid and then another 10 days full liquids. I was ready to move onto mushies after those 20 days!!!

Some of the questions seem silly,No question is silly but I am staring to get nervous about Thursday. I am getting stuff ready for the brat child to go with a friend tomorrow after school for the night, getting stuff ready for me to take to my mom's and then the hospital, afraid the hubby won't come to the hospital to see me ( I was told to plan to stay 2-3 mights), afraid I might get told that the weight I have lost is enough to prevent the surgery, afraid I could end up with the severe headache I had yesterday when I went to liquids (had to eat to get it to go away, but don't have to restrict myself until tomorrow), etc etc etc. I could some up with more, but am freaking myself out more. freaking out is natural. I think most everyone had some form of a melt down prior to surgery.

Anyway, if someone has any answers, etc I would love something... Hope I answered your questions.

    Thanks biggrin.giflaugh.gifdrum.gif

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask away. There has to be someone here who will be able to answer your questions sufficiently.

Sending my best wishes on a speedy and painfree recovery for you.

  2. I have a furry white tongue. What is this from and how can I get rid of it!!

Not sure what it is but I had it in the beginning. I just made sure I brushed my tongue well. I also heard you can get a tongue scraper to help. Now that I am farther out I do not have that problem as much. Find it gets less when I have more Water. Not sure if there is a correlation to the Water or not.

  4. Hi everyone. I'm so glad to find this web site. I'm going into sleeve surgery on 6/1/2011, and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I have a few questions that I'd love for you guys that have done the sleeve to answer for me please.

1- I don't want to look back and have any regrets for doing this surgery. Do you have any regrets, and what are they?

2- Can I eventually have a piece of bread after I have healed completely? How about rice?

Thank you in advance for any tips.

I think everyone has a moment in the beginning of "what have I done" . I have to say it is only a fleeting moment and then it is gone. I do not regret a single moment as I will finally achieve my goal and maintain it.

You should be able to eat anything when your tummy is up to it. I would avoid high carb foods in the beginning to maximize your weightloss but later on having a piece of bread here or there should be fine. Same with rice. It all depends on if your tummy will tolerate it. So far my tummy has been fine with foods I put into it. I tried a small spoon of rice last week and it went down fine. I have not tried bread as that is my weakness and I do not want to push my luck.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I started at a higher weight and I have 1 week to go to my 3rd month but so far since my surgery I have lost 50 lbs (I lost 16 lbs on my one week pre op diet which would make that 66 lbs lost total). This is my weight as of last week because I weigh (for recording) myself on Mondays (and that is tomorrow). I have not started exercising yet I was waiting for my 3rd month.

  6. Hello all the sleevers out there,

My surgery is tomorrow morning at 6 am with Dr. Sinnostine in Georgetown Ky.

I was wondering if the feeling I am having are normal. First of all, I would like to say thank you for every member on this post. If it wasn't for each of you, I don't think I would have the courage to be a sleever. It definetly takes a lot of courage!!! I have had so many mixed emotions in the past few months. I get excited about the weight loss but discouraged about the idea that i have to say good bye to all my favorite foods and life as I know it. My weight gain wasn't a result of eating too much in one sitting but not eating enough meals during the day, not getting enough activity, depo shots, smokers withdraw, and eating too much resturant foods. However, i do understand that if i eat less than of course i will lose the weight. When I look at all this paper work i am afraid that i will not be able to switch up enough foods to be satisfied during the first 3 weeks of full liquid diets. How am I going to eat and maintain when I am such the picky eater? How will I feel to have 9/10 of my stomach removed? Sometimes i get angry because if my family supported me more than always teasing me and reminding me about my weight than just maybe I wouldn't go thru this to lose the weight.

On the flip side, I am excited about losing the weight, I just don't wanna fail.

Thanks all and give me some feed back.

The first 3 weeks of liquids can get boring real fast. Just stick to the program and you will be onto mushies and then solids in no time. You will have to be diligent on getting a minimum of 60 grams of Protein a day and having at least 64 oz of water(fluid). I personally have avoided going to restaurants as I want to maximize my losing and I have to be able to know what is in my food. So self prep is best for me. Down the road I will allow myself to go back to restaurants.

It is too bad your family feel the need to tease you about your weight. Soon enough you will be losing and they will hopefully be supportive.

Just remember the sleeve is a tool and you have to put the right kind of food in to get the best results. Making changes now will help you down the road when you can eat more and feel the urge to eat foods that will cause you to gain weight. You can lose the weight if you use your tool properly. I am almost 3 months out and have not started exercising yet. I was waiting till my 3rd month before I joined a gym, so that my healing is done and I do not have to worry about hurting myself. These are personal choices. You will find what works for you.

I am sending all my positive thoughts on a fast and pain free recovery for you. Keep us posted on your journey.

  7. I just wanted to add I obsessed about food when I was on liquids. I even dreamt about eating food. Soon as I was on mushies and I felt restriction the wanting and obsessing went away. I also stayed on mushies for a little while longer to give my tummy a little extra healing time. Now that I am on solids I eat my Protein first (more dense the less I can eat) and if I have room its for veggies and some carb/starch but it is rare that I can get to potatoes.

    Take care of yourself!

  8. I am VERY VERY PALE!! I am wondering if anyone else is white as a ghost??? Is this normal??

When I went to Walmart today, I took my bp and it was like 110/54 which is very low for me. I felt very light headed and had to go sit in the car. I have been pale since Wednesday (sleeved Monday).

I am taking my Vitamins and drinking my fluids. Moved to full liquids yesterday and mainly having Decaf tea, Isopure, grits, yogurt, sugar free pudding and unjury chicken broth. I don't have a problem keeping anything down and am doing well with walking.

I did start my period as well on Wednesday and wonder if this is why I am so pale?? As I had just finished having one a week before my surgery and am doing it again! :(

Also, isn't our stomach located on the left?? My main incision is on the right! Just above my belly button to the right! That is the biggest one and the one that hurts the most. I think that is where my stomach was taken from. Does that seem weird??? Just wondering if anyone else's was that way. It burns really bad inside when i walk and when I roll over in bed.

    Thanks for listening!

    Kelly

    Hi Kelly

You just had major surgery and your body is adjusting. The anesthetic will also take a toll on you. Try to get in your fluids and Protein and you should be looking and feeling better soon. I was pale, light headed in the beginning and I think I started to feel somewhat normal 4 weeks out. I took a lot of naps in the day which helped a lot. Keep note of everything and if you feel you need to contact your doc then do so for your own piece of mind.

  9. I am afraid I am pushing my luck and need some tough love. I had my VSG surgery late May 5th, but today on May 14th, I am already on some mushies. It started with a hard boiled egg blended, it was so good I am now doing blended refried Beans. I know I am suppose to be on full liquids only until May 20th (although my Doctor's main nurse said I should be good for mushies on May 18th.

I am in no pain from the surgery, I walked 3 miles today, eating mushies, going back to work in 2 days, but I had surgery 9 days ago. And even though I am limiting eating just 4 oz, I know I have had 5 oz in one sitting with no restrictions. Everything just tastes so good, and I get a minor heartburn feeling in the center of my chest and force my self to stop, but I am very worried. This IS NOT a good start. If I am pushing things and 'cheating' now, what will happen and will I ever really change my habits, or will this all be for nothing?

    Input?

just an FYI your stomach nerves were cut and you will not have the sensations you are used to for being full. You may not have any sensation for the first month to 6 weeks. That being said you could harm your staple line and cause a leak. Your doctor has recommended a specific amount of time on liquids for your personal well being and to protect the staple line. I beg you to take this as a warning that you need to follow the doctors directions so that you do not end up back in hospital. This is a good time to start practicing patience and following the recommended eating plan.

You will still lose weight in the beginning but if you do not enforce these better eating behaviours now you will not be able to enforce them down the road when you can eat more. The sleeve is just a tool and you really need to take care of it and use it wisely to maximise your weight loss.

I hope I have made sense to you. Please take the warning as patient non-compliance is a big issue for leading to complications.

You can do it! I believe in your inner strength!

  10. I thought I could eat more at one point but then wham something happens and you know you are only able to comfortably eat a small portion. Sometimes I look at the portion and think it is hugh and then I have co-workers (who have no idea I had surgery) say is that all you are eating! Life is adjusting and yes your stomach will tell you when you went too far. Either by pain or everyone out of the pool situation.

I am almost 3 months out and it feels like a lifetime ago that I had the surgery.

  11. I also found that my weight loss increased when I increased my Water intake. I am getting in my required Proteins, low carbs, Vitamins and such and I am able to drink 96oz of Water a day. My weight loss has really picked up since I did this. Oh and I get all of my protien from food sources now. I save the Protein drinks for days that I may be rushed and miss a meal.

You are doing a great job so far!

  12. I'm not sure if it is or is not allowed but it is annoying to expect a helpful answer to a question and receive a "MY Dr. does this for me and he can for you too!" reply.

Chime in, I'm seriously interested to see if it's just me it annoys or if everyone else feels the same way.

    Renee`

I have not noticed anyone saying that. But if I did I would let them speak their mind and then I would move on. I try not allow peoples odd/different behaviours to annoy me. I think life is too short to allow it so I just ignore and move on.

Not sure if this is what you were wanting as a answer.
