  1. I had my surgery here in NH at DHMC and had a great experience. Since my surgery I don't eat much pasta or cheese. I have to take a stool softener if i eat pasta or cheese otherwise I get bound up. I try to stay away from them as much as possible though. I found Shiraki noodles that if done right are an ok substitute for pasta and its healthy. Just rinse them and soak them good because they stink but google them. I figure if I am going to go as drastic as surgery to change my life I am going to follow a healthy diet. I also notice now if I eat red meat I either don't lose or I gain up to half a pound. So I do a lot of chicken, pork and a little fish. I no longer drink soda at all and drink a lot more crystal light then ever before. I do greek yogurt, sugar free pudding and jello. for a treat I will do a fudge bar (skinny cow or Weight watchers or Shwans light). I have not found any food that I can't eat but there are some I choose not to eat.
  2. Well Hello. Let me know if you have any questions. I am now 10 months out from my surgery. If you have any questions please just ask no matter what. I have had some good success in that I've lost 80 lbs so far and I'm still losing. I have gained 2.5 lbs this week due to 2 deaths in the family but hope to finally get back on track starting tomorrow. Where are you having your surgery? How is your surgeon?

    Owww. Never Again !

I must agree with massindex but take it a step further. I feel that we all went through these surgeries to change our lives for the better. That means completely changing the way you eat for the rest of your life. You need to stay away from the foods that caused you to gain weight in the first place. I know people are going to hate hearing that but I am a firm believer in this whole process. I admit when I see all the treats at work, the cookies, cakes, muffins, donuts ( I work in an ER and we get a lot of donations and we have a lot of coworkers who bake a lot) it is hard. I look at the food and want it just like anyone else. I want ice cream and candy bars, but I think I miss soda the most I just have to think about where I was before (243.6 lbs) and where I am now (167.2lbs) and think wow I feel great I grab my sugar free pudding and pretend its cake. It doesn't always help but it helps to know I am getting healthier for myself and my son Good luck to you & I am here if you need to vent a food frustration LOL
  9. Well I'm not on here as much as I'd like to be. I thought I'd give an 8 month post of sleeve update. If you would have asked me in the beginning I would have said I'd be happy just to lose 25 lbs. I had serious doubts I could ever hit the 50 lbs lost mark. IF I'm really being honest I was petrified I would be one of the ones that didn't lose anything. However here I am 8 months out. I have lost just over 76 lbs and I am so proud of myself. I can't believe it. I never thought I could actually get close to my goal weight of 150lbs. However I am now 17 lbs from that goals and I am thinking I just may even go under that to be technically a "normal" weight. Though I find that whole "you should be this weight" really silly. I am 9 lbs heavier then my 15 yr old son and we don't look it. Everyone is different and I just want to be healthy. If I become normal then that is great but i just want to be a healthy Amanda
  10. Well I am now 167 lbs and a size 14ish. I have excess skin that if it was gone I may be a size 10 but that will come with time. Changing my excercise routine to ramp up my toning :)

  12. Hi I'm Amanda. I'm from NH and was looking to find others from NH or VT to chat with. I had my surgery on 6-08-2011.
  13. Hi I'm Amanda and live in NH. I had my sleeve done on June 8th and love it. Although I must admit this is a difficult time of year. I see all the holloween candy and my mouth still waters. Thinking of the holiday meals and all the baking my coworkers do this time of year and knowing I can't partake in most of it stinks. However I have lost nearly 60 lbs in 5 months and feel great. I went from a size 22 to a 14-16 pants and love it. I am still losing but not as quickly as someone with the full bypass but at a rate that is comfortable to me. Now I must admit I do have some sagging skin and my hair falls out a it more but I wouldn't change a thing. I just need to increase my excercise. Hope this helps. Keep in touch if you'd like to chat more .
  14. Well finally on here to update. I am now 187.2 and a size 14-16 depending on style. So excited to continue this journey. I am 4 months out and doing good.

Should I sleeve or Not to Sleeve

I had my sleeve done on 6-08-2011 and have lost 44 lbs so far. I have a coworker who had the full gastric bypass 2 weeks before me and she has lost 70. So if you want to lose fast then that is the way. However let me caution you I can eat just about anything now with healthy limits (salad, chicken, veggies, fruit etc.) my coworker however has not been so lucky. She is still only able to eat soft foods such as cottage cheese and soups. Thus the reason for her weight loss. She also throws up quite a bit. WHile I am losing slower I feel it is a healthier way to lose and I am happier then being 243 lbs. So look at all your options the best one for you will have to be your decision for me the sleeve was the best of all worlds and I couldn't be happier Good luck and I am happy to chat if you have any questions AManda
