    11 days post op

I was banded a year ago. Take it slow your port sight may hurt for a few months due to it being sewed in to the muscle this is normal. Also sometimes if you are having shoulder pain it can be a sign you are eating too much. I would stick to protein shakes, jello, liquids, sugar free popsicles until they up your diet. You will find out there are many pains and sometimes the gas never goes away that is part of the band and the digestive tract. You make gas ex your best friend but pain is part of the surgery and your port sight might hurt for a while.

    Scared

It is normal for all bariatric surgeries to make you nauseated when you wake up. Just tell the anesthesiaologist he will make sure you get something. I work in surgery and I have yet to see someone having any bariatric surgery not wake up with nausea but it will past. I was banded a year ago and I had dry heaves for three days and had to stay in the hospital but nausea vs leaving this world early I would rather be nauseated for real.

    Questions about Gas after fill

Well I know that food triggers mine anything sugar free, peppermint, cinnamon I have always had gas from the beginning and I dont think its because any band is too tight. There are just some things that will make your stomach more sensitive after surgery because your pouch is so small. I would say stick to what you can eat and if anything causes you gas either bare with it or leave it alone. I had to give up coffee period, and a lot of seasonings. I cant eat sugar free candie, pops or anything because they tear me up. Just some suggestions.

    OMG...16 page psych test!

I went to a psychiatrist and it was basically 15 minutes he only asked me if I was depressed, had ever thought about hurting myself, had ever been abused all appropriate for eating disorders. I dont know what that 10 page crap would be unless they wanted to see if your frustration level would go up due to so many questions lol
  6. I was banded a year ago and just got my first fill yesterday I lost 70lbs with no fill my doctor told me I was only three in 2000 patients in his practice that lost without a fill. Everyone is different. I am an exception to not having a fill for a year. It really is uncommon not to have a fill at least in the first six months.

3rd fill today unable to access port

Im so sorry you are having this difficulty. You can try to find another surgeon but good luck on that one. Most wont take another surgeons patient because of the liability. I moved and had to find another one and only because I worked in surgery he took me on as a patient all the others I called would not take me. Sometimes the port can move or malfunction it happens. I would rather them go in and look surgically to make sure there is no problems then to find out by surprise that there is something wrong with it. Good luck
  9. It is 70 to 90 grams per day and you have to drink protein drinks to get that amount you can never eat that much food. I would suggest you go to GNC and get they Isopure protein powder it has 50 grams per serving which is two scoops I usually have that for breakfast mixed with milk then eat normal the rest of the day. You want protein isolates not just whey protein we dont want to bulk up so I wouldnt suggest any of the other protein shakes.

    Not Lap Banded Yet!!!!

Well the band can certainly help your weight issues however it is only a tool to teach you the correct amount of food you are suppose to eat. I say that because if you do not follow the diet you will not have success and will gain the weight back. I had it done last december and have lost almost 70lbs but I do not eat junk anymore. You have to fix the mental part of why you eat like you do and you have to be ready to adjust to a lifestyle change if not then it wont work.
  11. Two weeks. You dont have to wait just dont let him lay on the port side or better yet get on top then its excersise.
  12. You shouldnt make your shakes with a blender or appliance because it increases the air and takes away from the protein shake so says the bariatric store. Look up the store online at before and after eating and call them they can tell you all you need to know. I never used anything. I just ate normal once the liquid phase was over but just small bites and chewed well. Nothing ever got stuck.

    New here and really scared!!

Well all I can say is you made a good decision. It does hurt to sleep on your side for a while until the port sight heals. You will get use to the diet if you follow it. Its all trial and error once you can eat food. I still cant eat bread or pasta 10 months post op and I havent had one fill yet and lost 70lbs but that is not common. Only 3 in 2000 surgeries that happens. Have I gotten use to the new me absolutely I have no regrets even though there are tough times too. You will learn to deal with it just got to take each day at a time. Its a tool and I said a tool not a cure for obesity. Many people get disappointed when they dont lose you have to follow a diet just like anything else. It wont fix you by its self that is where people get it wrong. The band is only a tool to teach you portion control. If you go back to your bad eating habits you will gain the weight right back. So you have to absolutely be ready mentally and know you can not go back to your old eating habits ever. I mean never. If you do you will gain the weight right back.
  14. Well I am ten months post op and down 70lbs I have some on my belly but its all about how well the elasticity is in your skin. I have no hanging arm fat or leg fat and I am 47. Will I get a tummy tuck? Not necessarily if I can hide it with clothes. I am happier now then I have ever been. I dont care what it looks like naked I am healthier and happier and found the man of my dreams that I am marrying on Nov 6th 2010. If you are worried about skin you will have it. Excersise will not get rid of it in any way shape or form. Dont want to rain on your parade but it just isnt going to go back you have youth on your side but if your skin is really stretched in certain spots it probably wont go back. Just sayin.

    Hair Loss?

I was having hair loss and started taking hair skin and nails it stopped but also if you are not eating enough protein that will cause hair loss big time. If your not getting it enough in food you need to supplement with protein shakes I would suggest GNC protein powder with whey isolates not for body building people get that wrong we dont want to build muscle we just need the protein.
  16. If you are eating the same after surgery as you were before then you need a fill. I am 10 months post op and have never been filled and have lost 70lbs with no fill. If I eat too much my shoulder hurts so I know how much I can eat. I dont think you ruined it I think you just need to cut your portions in half until you get a fill and yes if you feel like something is in your throat but then it moves down it is getting stuck. You should not be eating more than 2-4 ounces of food at this point. Just cut back on eating the band is only a tool to help you it wont do it for you.

    Constipation ruining my life.

Activia does work very well. I dont understand why you would want a tight band so that you cant eat healthy. Fruit and vegetables you need in your diet no matter how good your vitamin levels are. I would suggest getting some of that fluid out and start eating healthy. I am 10 months post op down 70lbs and I never had a fill yet. I wont gain my weight back. Just think this way when you want to eat something you shouldnt nothing taste as good as being thin.
  18. Not only do I have the lap band but I work in surgery and see patients all the time have this procedure done. I have run across old and new threads about all three being months post op. Well here is the thing and I hate when people get frantic because they dont know what is wrong and want to take their band out or get the by pass done just sayin. I am 10 months post op. I often had and have shoulder pain but shoulder pain comes from over eating. Everyone has a nerve in their stomach that runs from the stomach to the shoulder when you have over eaten and the band presses on that nerve you will have pain. If you are havng this problem then whatever you are eating cut it in half. You also might have inflammation in your stomach so give it a rest of 72 hours. Go back to the diet you had when you came home from the hospital and start over. For gas and bloating my culprit was cinnamon in my coffee and spices and talking while eating, chewing gum, after I stopped all that the gas and bloating stopped. Also start drinking some probiotics dan active, eating activia yogurt, and use gas x until the symptoms stop. You probably are going back to your old eating ways at some point and you just cant. We have to stay on the diet, follow the diet or else you start having side affects you didnt have before. But dont talk about taking out your band until you have tried what you were doing before all that started. Hope it helps I really do.

    Need help now please

After a fill you are only supposed to have clear liquids for 24 hours then resume your normal diet. Chicken broth, sugarfree pops, jello, apple juice. Thats about it and water.
