Jim1967 got a reaction from pamela in Revision Band to Bypass
    Hello All,

Long time a member but have been away a long time. I was banded in April 2012 at 488lbs. My lowest weight attained was 170. I have since over the years climbed back up to 328.

Monday, Jan 8th I am scheduled for a conversion to bypass. Removing my band as well as my gallbladder.

Any advice would be appreciated. It's been 10 years. I imagine somethings have changed while some haven't.

I know it's a tool. I know the weight doesn't fall off overnight. The band saved my life. I hope bypass gets me back on track.

    Thanks, Jim.

Hello all, long-time member who has been away for a while. January 8th I am scheduled for a revision lapband to bypass. The band was successful for years and no doubt saved my life but it has run its course and the weight is going back on and the band is maxed out.

Well surgery was yesterday. Got home about two hours. Gas pains are the worst. Just need to keep moving.

I had the Gastric Banding placed in 2012. I've moved away from where I had the initial surgery to a place that didn't have a doctor comfortable with the banding procedure. I've gone several years without having it adjusted but keeping my weight maintained so I didn't think much of it, I figured it was doing it's job and so was I. I recently had severe abdominal pain after having some lunch, was rushed to the local hospital, which then had to be transferred to a hospital an hour away from home to find a doctor comfortable with the banding procedure. It turns out the band slipped some time ago and completely eroded though my stomach. I had an emergency surgery with 2 surgeons for over 4 hours. They had to remove some of my stomach and a piece of my liver that had attached itself to the scar tissue. I have months of recovery ahead of me now and could have died from this when I thought everything was working fine. If you are considering getting the band please rethink it. If you have the band and haven't been check in a while, PLEASE go the doctor and get a complete check up as soon as possible.

Jim1967 got a reaction from Arabesque in 10+ years maintaining weight loss - anyone here?
I was banded April 12, 2012 I weighed 488lbs. I was afraid of bypass. Didn't think I would survive being so overweight and with sleep apnea. Lap and saved my life. My weight bottomed out at 150. I weighed 150 in 7th grade. Lol. Here we are end of 2023 and I now weigh 330. January 8th the band comes out and convert to bypass. I can't speak from bypass experience but I will say you can't measure success or failure based off someone else's journey. It all takes work and discipline. Best, Jim

You may not get many replies. Not because people haven’t generally maintained after that length of time, but more that there aren’t many long timers here. People tend to be regulars for a few years then drift away. Then they pop in randomly.
I’m only 4.5 years post surgery & have pretty much maintained since I stabilised. Had a a good 2kg glitch with a medication issue at 2 years but then resettled at about 1kg (about 2lbs) above my stabilised weight after the meds were sorted. Never changed what I was doing throughout. Much like @The Greater Fool it’s a lifelong change to my habits & eating for me too.
Have you asked your surgeon if they have any knowledge about their former patients & their long term weight status?

Fun topic and I hope you don't mind a Vet chiming in.
I have become and avid kayak-er since losing weight and my next venture is inside skydiving....and maybe just maybe some day an actual plunge from a Plane. If President Bush can do it at 90 than why not me?

My long term reward for goal that I set back in 2011 was a week at Disney World. That is now booked for December 6th through 13th of this year.
Goals and rewards are excellent motivators and you know what else? We're all worth it!!

CarolinaGirl you talk some serious truths.....common sense is huge. Don't let lack of common sense convince you your band doesn't work.
    On a side note,,,
My Father asked me last week if I need an intervention. LOL. "You need to stop losing weight soon". I said that is all nonsense. Plenty more can be lost loose skin aside. I am 5 foot nothing 192 pounds. Not even in the normal BMI range.
Slow down comments are coming fast and furious from various people. I know they're just concerned but it is completely unnecessary and borderline annoying.

Now.....if a guy is running along with you and compliments your effort without hounding you.....then you may have encountered a higher life form than the dipshyt in the truck.
