    Home and doing great!

You're very welcome. Good Luck! You will do great. I can honestly say I was not nervous at all because of all the research I had done on this site, as well as others. When you start getting up the soreness will seem to get better every couple of hours. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I have cooked a few meals for husband and friends at our camp, and have not tasted, nor wanted to, and have not felt left out. Everyone is encouraging. When I get tired, I lie down for a few minutes. Your body will tell you what it needs. Prayers coming your way, and keep us posted.

    Pre-Op Testing

Had my pre op Tuesday, surgery is Aug. 2nd. Barium was awful, even though they flavored it with orange, don't like the foamy texture. Also had a fizzy drink I had to drink at one time. Said it put air in stomach so they could get better pictures. I just pretended it was a shot and downed it lol. The teck did say to drink plenty of Water that day to flush barium out. Had my daughter hook her Wii up at our house to do walking by when I get home. Will be going to our camp to recoup 1st week. Camp is actually 30 minutes from hospital. Dr. Hargroder, Gonzalas, La. is doing my surgery. He did daughters surgery and was awesome. Hubby can do a little fishing and still be there, and I can relax. It has been in upper 90's where I live and so hot. We also have one of the little above ground pools I have been walking circles in, but will have to wait a couple of weeks after surgery to do that. Trying to do last minute cleaning to stay busy so I will not think of all those "last meals I want to get in before". Nurse said after today do not do anymore cleaning, cooking for the freezer for the family, running errands, etc., to rest. Does she have a camera in my house? She said your body needs rest. She said so many come there totally exhaused. Okay, I can handle that.

  6. August 2nd, and I can't wait. Finished my pre op's Tuesday. Had to have a EKG, Blood Work, Upper GI, Chest X-Ray, Pulminary Test, and Phyc. Test. I am glad they take all the precautions though. Will not have to be on a post diet until the day before surgery. Have bought some EAS protein drinks, chocolate is very good, some Isosorbide (?spelling) clear liquids, some sugar free pops, chicken broth, frozen ice. I also got my Flintstone chewables, and B-12 dots. Will not have to be on clear liquids but three days after coming home. so I guess five days total. Glad to see the magazines. Gonna have to make another run.

  8. Yeah GirlfriendB! We're be counting them down. I will have mine in Baton Rouge. Lost 8.1 so far.
  9. Hello everyone. New to this site. My name is Lynn. I had this journey before with my daughter who had VS for heallth reasons. Well, it's moms time. Just checked on it yesterday and wow, go in Monday for orientation, my GP visit, and surgeon visit. Scheduled surgery for August 2, 2011. Daughters surgery was about two years ago so can't remember a lot of what we used for clear liquids, etc. but am busy reading. I know this site was a God's send for a mom a couple of years ago. So glad I have a shoulder and a few ears to help me through this. Don't really want to discuss this with those who do not know about this journey and will only make my jitters more. Let's get this party started.
  10. Thanks Kristey, I am really excited. I think I have like 13 more days til sugery. I am so ready. We have a cruise scheduled for the end of October so I would love to be down a few pounds. I see my GP and my surgeon today. I started about 5 days ago trying to watch calories and started drinking protein drinks trying to get my body ready for the shock. I also have a small pool in the yard I have been walking laps in and leg exercises. I have lost 6.1, which I know is mostly water, but the exercise has helped. I guess I kinda see a light at the end of the tunnel so it keeps me motivated, not like just trying to diet on my own, which only lasted a couple of months and then I would get back to my bad habits. I see you are doing great before your surgery also.
  11. July 14, 2011--Day one. Called today after putting off sleeve surgery for approx. two years. Daughter had sleeve two years ago due to health reasons, so could only do one out of pocket at a time. When she had her surgery this site was wonderful for a mom full of questions. I never posted but learned a great deal from wonderful people. Hopefully you can gently guide me through my process. I am really looking forward to this journey. My daughter has done wonderful. She had lost 105 lbs., but learned the art of grazing, so has put back on about 40 lbs. She is back on track now and loosing slowely but surely. I am to see my GP and surgeon Monday, and scheduled surgery for Aug. 2nd. I am really doing some reading trying to remember all the tips I learned back then. I know a lot has changed with the protein, bullets back then, and pre diet. Let the journey begin.
  12. Thanks Autumn, Yes, hopefully with me getting very serious about getting ready for the surgery and planning meals she will stay on track. She has learned that she can eat and eats the wrong things. Her pouch was checked a few months ago because she had acid reflux so bad. Surgeon said pouch was where it should be. I think she just eats too much and her stomach is trying to tell her. I think she will need to be on Prilosec for a good while even though her surgery was couple of years ago. She would never go to the group meetings after surgery that I think would have helped her. I did learn that the surgery is not a magic cure. You still have to do your part or the weight can be put back on. I'm 55 so for my health and just being able to enjoy life I am determined to make this journey. The age I am hopefully will not matter. I started walking today getting ready for surgery.

    Hot August Sleever!!

August Sleever, I will be there with you. Just learned yesterday they had scheduled mine for Aug. 1st also. Busy reading up on everything to see what is needed. I didn't know it would be scheduled so soon. But am ready. Let our journey begin. I live in Louisiana. Lynn
  14. Sue, No real rotation for hubby's meals. I wanted to try to maybe pressure some chicken and put the chicken in some type of casseroles and use the broth for the brothcicles. I remember my daughter didn't like the brothcicles either. Seems like she used the cup-a-soup after clear liquid stages. What are your restrictions for the first few weeks. Are you on clear liquids or what type of foods can you eat? I am going to try to find my small food processor, think they called them bullets also, for grinding up food. I don't remember the stages she went through but I think she was on clear, then milky type soups, then maybe puree. Could you or someone fill me in. I am also trying to find out about the pre diet. Surgery was scheduled so fast I believe I need to get started on that also. I think I read you were a paraeducator. I was also a para. Worked with milid/moderate. "Retired" a couple of years ago when hubby went on shifting. Miss my babies, but enjoying the beginning of my "golden years". Thanks for an "ear".
  15. Thanks Sue... Hope things are going well for you. I am getting recipes so I can freeze hubby some things and maybe some broth for me. Keep us posted on your recovery. Any tips please let me know.
