Valentine's Day Challenge!
Nothing...I just waited it out. I did discover I could drink my unflavored protein in orange juice! That upped my protein by twenty grams a day. It could have made a small difference. I only started that this week.

Am I Being Ridiculous?
I just want to add that people have different goals, it may be a certain weight, BMI or just to be healthy and happy with no numbers attached. No matter the GOAL, lets all fight to get to ours while the time is right. I think that is the major point here. I think its hard to sit there, after we have all been through this journey and not feel a little something when we see that someone gave up and didnt reach their own personal happy place and are still stuck in the mental place that certain things are unattainable. If she really didnt want to look like a model, like she said, I dont think those words would have come out of her mouth. There was just something telling about it and you can see that she really had other goals and gave up on them. There is no reason to not believe in yourself and sell yourself short and just try to justify it to strangers. I feel for her and I hope one day she realizes her worth. We can all do anything we set our minds to. We dont have to settle for less than we deserve and want.

Sorry about that lilmissdiva... I thought you were saying I was getting on to people. I surely wasnt trying to. We are all in this together, we need to motivate each other. We all have struggles when it comes to weightloss, otherwise we wouldnt be here! Again, I didnt mean to speak out of turn. Have a great day!

Am I Being Ridiculous?
I dont "get on" to people here either... I try to motivate and rally the troops to make the most of their sleeve in the beginning so they will make their personal goal, what ever that may be. We can all do this. Its obvious to me that the woman did not make it to her personal goal yet or she wouldnt feel the need to explain it all to a perfect stranger in the waiting room. Its pretty obvious to me that when people overexplain, its because they want to try to justify their shortcomings to themselves so they can feel okay about the fact that they didnt try their hardest and stopped trying way before they had gotten to their goal. If this wasnt the case, I think it would have been more like : Hi, Im so and so and I had surgery three years ago and I lost XXX about of pounds! SMILE! It would not be filled with excuses and saying that she didnt want to be a model anyway.... just my two cents.

Am I Being Ridiculous?
Amen sister! I have heard these types of self defeating comments before. I think people tend to get complacent. I know in years past when I would lose some weight, I would get tired of it and just maintain that loss and say I was happy there because it was better than where I was before. I wasnt really happy there but I felt defeated because I could never seem to keep up the hard work long enough to get to goal. I would get down to 170 and stop every time. I would be a size 12-14, wear regular clothes and get complacent. Not this time! I did not go through all this to stay at 170. I was 171.4 this morning and I cant wait to break into the 160's! Hell, in about 12 pounds I will be in the 150's and that blows my mind but seems so attainable to me now! Who cant lose 12 pounds? I agree that we all need to work our asses off to get to goal no matter how long it takes and then we can relax a little bit. No rest until you are at goal people! Stay with it and then you will be much happier and healthier when you are maintaining your goal weight, not the weight you were when you stopped to rest and get complacent with your eating. I hope this makes sense. This first year or so is the one that counts that we can get the most from our tool and its a shame to waste a minute of it! We've got this! We can all do it! Find that inner strength and determination and ride it to the end!

Who Are You?
I have family in Brazil (well, I hosted exchange students from there so they are family to me) and we just went to one of the girls weddings last year in Marasias. We visited Sao Paulo for a week where she is from. I also saw one of my girls that is from Rio and we also had one that I didnt get to visit from Fortaleza. What part of Brazil are you going for the wedding?

How Can I Decrease The Size In My Calves?
Mine are quite jiggly on top. I am wondering if I will need to have a thigh lift later on. I still have a lot of cellulite on my thighs as well. They are a lot smaller though. I have lost about 5 inches in them!

How Can I Decrease The Size In My Calves?
Well, I for one have fat calves and tree trunk legs. I am only 5'4" and I have a hard time finding a boot that I can zip over my calf.. well, I cant find one. Now that I have lost 61 pounds, my knees just suddenly reappeared! I have knotty knee caps! Who knew? My key chain hangs down from the ignition now and bumps against this bony prominence called a knee cap and now is sore from it! What the H E double hockey sticks????? I never knew I had knees under there. I am hoping that by next fall, I will be able to wear any boot I damn well please. I am still too scared to try them right now. I dont want to face dissappointment. I have been walking each evening and I think that is helping. I dont do a lot of exercise either but I am trying. I hope that both of us find our knees and realize we have beautiful legs under all this! I believe we do! Hang in there and see what happens! I think if you just exercise, like walking and toning, you will be pleasantly surprised what your legs really look like underneath it all.

January 14, 2012 Check-In
I always forget this thread! I was down three pounds this week as of Saturday. I reached my minigoal of just being overweight and also passed up the 60 pound mark! I am now down to 172.5 as of this morning. I have discovered a pattern in my losses too. I generally go down 2 or 3 pounds over the weekend and stay the same or fluctuate all week. Sometimes I stay around the same for up to two weeks before I drop again. I just have to learn to be patient and drink more water! We are all doing great. We knew it would slow down about right now and I looks like it has for us. We still have plenty of time to loose the rest as we are supposed to lose for up to two years if we try! Come on girls, beat the carb monster and get those proteins in!

1Month Today Or 4 Weeks
As hard as it is, try not to compare your journey with someone elses. You are doing great! Just keep working on your own goals and you will achieve them.. This of course is a lot easier said than done. I have to keep telling myself this all the time. I think you are doing phenomenal!

Help I'm Stuck
Thanks! I made the graph myself in excel. I can send it to you if you want it and you can tweak it to your own. You just change the weight values in the first column and the dates on the last column but leave the middle ones alone. The graph shows a starting line at the top, 1/4 done, half done, 3/4 done and goal. It also shows a trend line if you were to loose at a rate of 1 lb a week, 2 lbs a week and 3 lbs a week. Its very colorful. Your weight trend line will be in bright yellow. Its all on a dark gray background. You can change all the colors to your taste. PM me and I will email it to you if you would like. That goes for anyone who is interested in it.

Help I'm Stuck
I was sleeved in August also and I am down 61 pounds. You seem to be doing better than most of us so far! I tend to loose in a pattern. I graphed my loss so far and I can see that I lose for a week or so and then stay the same for a week to 10 days. How long has your stalls lasted? Mine is about 10 or 12 days and then I loose again. I don't have huge drops anymore, just 2 to 3 pounds but I am averaging about 1.8 pounds a week. My surgeon says that the stalls are going to last longer and happen more frequently the farther we are out. You are only 20 pounds from goal in 5 months. That's a lot better than most and I would be happy and count my blessings. Its not going to come off overnight, as it didn't get there that way. Patience! It will come off, but your body has to have time to adjust. I'm sure your body is just adjusting right now and you will lose again soon!

Protein Drinks-Finally Found A Solution!
Okay, so I could not stomach protein shakes after surgery. I became lactose intolerant early on and even the lactose free muscle milk cramped my stomach and gave me diahrea. I bought Unjury unflavored to try to hide it in yogurt and such.. .No luck. I hated everything I tried and wasted a lot of money. FINALLLLY... today I found an answer that is working for me. Orange Juice! I had bought some heartwise OJ to help lower my cholesterol and didnt want to waste it so I put a half scoop in a half cup. I had to put it in the blender to mix it smooth but it was good! NO taste. So I added the other half of each to make a whole cup and blended that. It got a little frothy but it still tasted like OJ to me and I drank it all no problem. No diahrea and it didnt cramp my tummy. I will be making this orange juice in a travel coffee mug and sipping it on the way to work each day. SO EXCITED to finally figure out how to get my protein in! WOOOHOOO! Thought I would share!

Im Overweight! Hooray!
Im 5' 4" sooo pretty short! Height makes a big difference with BMI. What is your height and goal weight? Mine is 135. I want to loose a little more so when I have that little regain, I end up at 135. That will put my BMI at 23 I think, so perfect!

Nearly 2 Months Out And Question About Dumping
I dont think its dumping... sleevers dont dump. dumping is caused when sugar hits the part of the intestine that was moved up to join the bottom of the pouch... its not used to having undigested sugar in it. We sleevers didnt have our intestines rearranged like that so we wont ever by "dumping". What can make you a little sick is too many carbs and sugar in general. It can make you nauseaus if you have been low carbing it and then suddenly here comes a lot of sugar/carbs. Sounds kinda the same but its not. Also, a lot of sleevers become lactose intolerant. I did at about 4 months. I was fine before that. I cant drink milk now but I can eat cheese, yogurt, etc.. I dont know why but I will take it! Dont worry about dumping because we dont but ...if sugars/carbs make you nauseas at times make sure your doctor gives you some zofran and try not to eat it until you can tolerate it better.

Finish Everything On Your Plate!
I had to learn to put less bites in my plate so I could finish it without discomfort. If I needed a few more bites, I could always add a few at the end. It works for me. I was from the clean plate club too. HTH

Stalls Are No Big Deal So Why Complain?
I guess it is because people want to see a steady loss and sometimes it isnt the case. My body seems to have a pattern. I will drop 2 or 3 pounds, usually on the weekend and then stay the same for a week, sometimes two and then drop again. I can expect there to be no weight loss the next weekend and I just wait it out and sure enough, by the next saturday, I will be down some. I dont think we have "control" of that. lilmissdiva has a boot camp to break stalls and I have been at the same weight for two weeks so I looked at it, thinking about trying it. It turns out that the bootcamp is what I already do everyday! I have not strayed from the basics so I am in bootcamp all the time! My hubby pointed out that one of the main reasons I had this surgery was to quit dieting all the time and just have a healthy lifestyle. He says trying this and that and bootcamps and all the craziness was doing the opposite of what I wanted. I was obsessing over every little carb, calorie, etc and he thinks like you do... We CANT eat too much and so as long as we eat our protein first and drink fluids, we WILL loose the weight. It comes off when our body decides, not us. Nothing we do is going to change that. Now, if you have gotten away from eating protein and are just eating empty calories all the time, then I would say you need to eat right but if you are plugging along eating protein first, getting some fluids in to prevent dehydration, you will be fine and there is nothing you need to do or try to break the stall... Its just your body adjusting and you might as well get used to it. We cant control that part of it. Just my 2cents.
