  1. I am getting sleeved on 10/4 but had a question post surgery. I have had arthritis since age 2 and usually get massages to help circulation, etc. I wasn't sure if anyone knows if and/or how long we need to wait to get a massage after surgery?

    Am I Losing Too Slowly?

I am between 25 and 30 pounds gone and I had my surgery on 10/4. It has been slow but steady with no real stall. I am starting to incorporate more excercise beyond light cardio. You are doing great! Keep it up!

    New To Forum

I have lost around 30 and now am stalling! Don't get discouraged this happens for up to a few weeks then all of the sudden you drop 10 in days! Keep on going and stay positive!
  4. Protein, protein, protein!!! I plan on doing a bigger portion of protein and smaller portion of veggies.
  5. I agree with your friend. My doctor told me NO GATORADE, because of the sugar content. Are you getting in enough protein and water everyday? I am finding it difficult to get all my water in. I am not one to sip on fluids all day.
  6. The biggest thing is to keep a positive attitude! Instead of saying I have only lost 53 pounds, be proud of losing it! Is there anyway you can get cardio in on an excercise bike? I know you have lower back pain, but I am thinking if you are sitting down on the bike it may not bother your back as much but you still get cardio in. Also, what about water aerobics? Just some thoughts for lower impact. I was diagnosed with arthritis and fibromyalgia at the age of 2 so I can understand back pain. Keep a positive outlook, everyone is going to lose at their own pace and have stalls!

    Pop Rocks?!

Hi there! I had the same thing happen to me. It is heartburn. My doctor told me to take prilosec and it ended up helping 100%! Also, when your stomack is growling like that you need to eat. It is your stomach telling you that you are hungry. Even if it isn't much eat a little bit and also take that pill right away! I had my surgery on October 4th and mine is finally clearing up.
  8. I am getting cleared by my doctor to start excercising with weights in a couple of weeks. What are some good excercises to help tighten up those saggy areas from losing weight quickly??? I am already noticing arm flab and around the belly area! Thanks!

    Hiccups??

I got them too but it was also 10 to 20 minutes after. I could tell that I was full as well so it must have to do with the food sticking around the esophagus area.
  10. You can do this! Think of way to trick your mind back! I have been using smaller plates and using toddler utensils. It has been very helpful! I also always start with protein, sometimes if I am super hungry I only put protein on my plate to make sure that is first and foremost! Also, check the labels! I have learned that if you get too much sodium it's not good for you and even protein packed foods don't always mean it's ok to eat by bariatric standards! Keep your head up! You will do just fine!

    Excercise

So I am getting cleared from my doctor to start excercising! The nice thing about my doctors program is they add in a 6 month free membership to our local healthplex! When looking down the list I am starting with slow form yoga and moderate range arthritis which is a therapy pool acquatic session (I have arthritis so I think this will do joints well!). Besides walking which I am already getting in can everyone chime in on their routines! I would like to have different ideas so I don't get bored! Thanks to all! Jen

    Engagement is over

Stay positive! Instead of saying I have ONLY lost so many pounds. . .give yourself a pat on the back saying I have lost this much weight and more to come! You can do this!
  13. Hi Phyllis! Checking in to see how you are! Let me know! Thanks, Jen :)

    October 19th

Best of luck everyone! I was sleeved on 10/4 and I am feeling great! You all will do awesome!
  15. Hi Phyllis! I am sorry I haven't written back! I am doing great! I had my 2 week post op and have dropped almost 25 pounds in 1 month (2 week pre op diet and 2 week post op). I can't complain. I have noticed heartburn put it goes away with the prilosec! How are you doing? How did the surgery go for you? If you need anything let me know! Lots of luck! Jen

  16. I am so excited and it is all becoming very real! Today I am starting my 2 week pre-op diet! Any suggestions or motivations for the next 2 weeks other than this will lead to surgery which will lead to a healthier lifestyle?

    Need Help with Protein Please...

Could you try putting some of the unjury unflavored powder in the different foods you eat? You can add a little sprinkle to your food! Since it has no flavor but acquires protein that would be good! Also, Isopure which is like gatorade or powerade counts as a liquid plus protein! Hope this helps!

October 17 VSG, need October friends!

Hi all! I am a self pay patient (yikes!) and have my surgery date scheduled for October 4th! Yay! I just started my pre-op diet yesterday which wasn't as bad as I thought! Being self-pay has it's advantages like not having to go through insurance hoops! I am just thankful that I can do it like I did! I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I am having my surgery done by Dr. Northup with Mercy Healthy Weight Solutions, they are a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence! Every employee there has been wonderful! I am grateful for them all! As far as my pre-op surgery diet goes: I have to consume 60g of Protein a day via Protein shakes made by unjury or nectar. (I personally like Bariatric fusion but those shakes are more so post op!). I am alloted as much water/crystal light/isopure (which counts as a Fluid and protein)/ sobe life Water 0 calorie/sugar free popsicles as I want. I can also have 1 cup of SF Jello pudding or Gelatin, veggie Soup, 98% FF cream soup, or tomato soup, 1 cup of iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrots, celery with 2 TBSP of fat free dressing, 1/2 cup of Unsweetened applesauce, 1 cup of dannon light n fit yogurt. -- All of these only once a day. The day before my surgery I will be on an all clear liquid diet and nothing to drink or eat after midnight. Best of luck to everyone!

    Sleeve & the Holidays

I have thought about it and I am actually glad that I am getting it done before the holidays! I will be almost 2 months post op once Thanksgiving hits so I will be eating solids again! I am so excited knowing that by then I will know what to eat and not to eat but most of all I won't be able to eat 2 plates full of food, let alone 1! Food surrounds our family holidays but I am going to try to incorporate games or activities to go along with it. . .that way I am not standing next to the food tables grazing like I used to! I think it is mind over matter!
  20. I haven't had my surgery yet but I have talked to my doctor about this. I have severe migraines! He told me that generally what the studies have shown is that a high percentage of bariatric patients see most or all migraines cured post surgery! I am hoping for this! Best of luck!

    Final Consultation Today!

I am getting nervous yet still very, very excited! I am going for my final consultation and diet planning today! I start my liquid diet tomorrow for 14 days! Yikes! I know in the end it will be so worth it! Can't wait for a new me!
  23. I met with the dietician last week and will be doing my dietary consult on 9/19. The dietician explained that they advise use of Bariatric fusion Meal Replacements. Has anyone used these and if so which flavors are good? Just want to know what to buy on 9/19! Thanks!
