    I've been sleeved!

Thank you all for your support! I am feeling great now 4 days post-op. I got out of the house yesterday and today which felt great. My post-op appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow so I'm anxious for the weigh in and hoping to get the OK for full liquids. Feeling a little anxious about having the desire to eat more than liquids. It's not like I want a huge sandwich, but just a few bites of mushed turkey meatballs or some cottage cheese sounds delicious. Should I be concerned about feeling this way, or does it just mean I'm healing well?
  4. I had my surgery 12/11. I had extremely severe nausea/vomiting in post-anethesia and throughout the first 24hrs post-op. I was given IV meds but nothing helped. There was very little pain, just soreness over 2 of my 5 incision sites. I got through my leak test, keeping the contrast down just long enough for the test to be done before puking that up. Then I willed myself to take a few spoonfulls of both, jello, and crystal light so that I could go home. By yesterday morning I felt 100% better. Full of gas, somewhat nauseous, a little sore but so much better. The only appealing food to me has been popsicles. Today I plan to make an honest attempt to get some Isopure in. Other than that, I'm sip sip sipping water. I was excited to get home from the hospital and see I had lost 7 pounds already!! Woohoo!
  5. I think I'm ready, but wanted to run through supplies/hospital list once more. Is there anything else I might want or need for week 1 and the hospital? Hospital: chapstick, face wash/lotion, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, extra underwear, tampon/pad (just in case), slippers, robe, magazines Week 1: crystal light, broths, decaf tea, popsicles, Isopure(a requirement from my doctor), Jello, vit C/zinc, GasX strips, pain med/elixer, prevacid I am half nervous and half excited......OK reallly excited!

    Seeds?....

So I had pre-op yesterday and asked my seed question. The initial response was "no seeds", but then I was told strawberry seeds were OK. I was also put on a diet of 4 protein shakes per day which caught me by surprise. I thought, "but wait...I haven't had my last sushi yet!" So i've been on shakes, but had the "last supper" tonight. I almost cried....so pathetic. I am only 1 week away though and sooooo excited!!! Surgery is paid for. There's no turning back!
  7. Help! I have nothing from my Dr. or nutritionist that mentions seeds from fruit used in shakes. I have been practicing recipes for protein shakes with my Magic Bullet (love it!), but need clarification on this seed issue (raspberries, strawberries, etc). I plan to ask this question at my preop appointment this week, but wanted to get input here too. Thanks.
  8. Joon, this has been my #1 anxiety also. I can see and hear about everyones' success, but I have this irrational thinking that it won't work for me. It's good to hear I'm not the only one having these thoughts. I think my main stumbling block is I just CAN'T wrap my mind around the possibility of being my at my goal weight. Like it's impossible to weight that much. However, to think that it IS possible is soooo exciting. Good luck to you!
  9. I hope your range of emotions are normal, because that means I'm normal too. I will be sleeved in exactly 1 month. Some days I am so happy and excited I catch myself smiling just thinking about it. Other days I think "what am I doing? do I really have to do this to lose weight?". I don't think it's possible to feel 100% sure, but I know that it will change my life for the better. Ok, now I'm getting excited again... Good luck to you! How exciting it will be for all of us to fit comfortably in a plane seat!

how much time out of work

I can't tell you how you might feel, but my surgery is Dec. 11 and I'll return to work Dec. 21 (luckily I will get 2 weekends out of it). I chose this date because I'll go back to work for 2 days and then be off for a few extra days around the holiday. I sort of have a desk job. I think you'll be good.
  11. I have not been instructed regarding a pre-op diet other then trying to stick with 1200 cal/day. What I have found myself doing is saving those calories for bascially one meal a day to have foods I love and don't think I'll be able to have for awhile post-op. I know this is wrong, but can't seem to help myself. I will have to look into the constipation issue further. I had thought about it, but didn't think it would be a major concern. I should know better after having constipation after having my gallbladder out. I do worry quite a bit about hair and skin. Those have always been the two things about the way I looked that I loved. I have a kitchen cabinet full of supplements and vitamins to help combat these problems. Those of you already sleeved, how much time off work did you take? Did you wish you had taken more? less? Thank you all for your encouragement.

    H1N1 vaccine?

I've received both the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccine and had no problems with either. The nasal spray is a live vaccine and the injectable is NOT. I'm a nurse and close to 1000 employees have received either the H1N1 injectable or Flumist. I am not aware of anyone having any problem with either. There's a lot of "opinions" on this subject, but I'd encourage you to seek the advice of your surgeon and/or the CDC.
  13. Thank you all. My sleeve is my birthday and Christmas present to myself (my birthday is the week after surgery). The major struggle right now is waivering between being on a good pre-op diet and wanting to eat foods that I may not be able to eat again for a long time. I've talked with sleeved people in my surgeon's support group and they ALL say that they do not even care about eating foods they used to love. I KNOW this is supposed to be true, and I hear people saying it, but I still find it almost impossible to believe.
  14. I have finished all my pre-op tests/appointments and have a sleeve date of 12/11/09. I'm feeling excited, anxious, nervous, and generally overwhelmed. Sometimes it's hard to believe I'm actually going to be able to lose all of this weight. I know this is the beginning of a new life for me, but I'm open to whatever advice or tips anyone has to share (especially regarding post-op diet). Is it December yet?!
