Does the dieting mindset ever go away?

I've been banded and rebanded. It's been about 5 years. I have never reached my goal, despite low carbing, tracking every single calorie for 4.5 years straight, running a half marathon, training for one 4x, working out with a trainer for 2 years, becoming a trainer myself for 2 years and getting rebanded due to a leak. Just as before the band, I still have to count all foods, no sugar, minimum carbs etc. I took about 6 months off of logging, had a tight band, stuck with my usual diet of whole grains and lean Protein, worked out 6 hours a week and gained 40lbs back. So no, for me the diet mindset is CONSTANT! the moment i relax I gain wait. I've been losing about 2lbs a week since rebanding 10 weeks ago. I relaxed one weekend and ate 1800 calories one day due to having ice cream on a weekend get a way. And gained 4lbs back in one week. I even have a bodybugg and make sure i'm in a 1000 calorie deficit or more each day. I often wonder is fat is my plight in life. I can't seem to shake it. I currently run 5 days a week and strength train 3 days with a trainer and still, can't seem to lose more than 2 lbs a week. So for me, I would have to say the diet mindset looks as though it's permanent , i'll never be "normal" and be able to have bday cake without gaining a lb that week. I wonder if I sleep walk and eat fast food in the middle of the night!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

2nd fill this Thursday, I'm down 14 lbs now. I'm good with that, my "fat" clothes are too big now. But now quite into my one size down yet. Hopefully with 5 more lbs I will be. Can't wait to take that size 8 wardrobe back out of my closet! It's almost 2 years since I've worn any of it. Man that weight just crept up on me. This week was my biggest loss so far at 3lbs, I was stoked to see it on the scale. well have a great week bandsters!
  6. Hi, so I'm about 6 weeks post op, lost about 13 lbs so far and all of the sudden I have terrible shoulder pain! Only had one fill, so I knw i"m not too tight, I need another fill here soon. It wakes me up it hurts so bad and when i take a deep breath. Unfortunately, My surgeon's program at the hospital by my house was bought out by another hospital and then shut down until new bylaws are created. So he is now 2 hours away! =(. I don't have the time to go up there to see him. I don't recall having pain like this the last time around it's so uncomfortable. D

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Razzcat! I'm so sorry! That's so frustrating I know! Especially when it seems as though everyone has huge losses their first month. Something that helps me is tracking my calorie intake on www.myfitnesspal.com, I use the iphone app and it's amazing. My Dr. wanted me to do 800 calories day and I was far too tired to keep up with it, so now I am doing 1000-1200 and actually starting to lose steadily and have more energy too. Keep in mind that even though we have a band, it's still calories in vs. calories out. Maybe you aren't burning as many calories as you are taking in? Keep your spirits up, I am also a slow loser and seem to have a harder time than anyone. I totally understand your frustrations. D
  9. surgery july 21st...Loss 6 lbs. Had a fill, I feel pretty good restriction. Second band, so I think that is why loss is slow going. My body is used to calorie restriction.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

don't be too nervous about the fill, it typically takes about 5 minutes and you don't really notice a difference right away. My surgeon has me do a day of liquids then a day of mushy then back to regular meals. The first fill usually doesn't give you the restriction you've hoped for so you will be riding it out on will power once again. By now small meals are a habit and it shouldn't be quite so difficult. I wish that I had more will power the first time around because i had stretched my pouch quite a bit, really be conscious about the amount of food you put in, even if you are still hungry stop eating and have more a few hours later after the pouch has had a chance to empty. I wish that I had been more careful. Good luck!! D

    July 2011 Bandsters!

For some reason my surgeon recommends 800 calories, I did question it because, I do have a little bit of education in nutrition and I have always learned that a woman needs to eat at least 1200 calories a day for optimal metabolism. So, I decided that this time around I am following the docs orders to a T and at my first till I will def. speak to the nutritionist and get some things straight. I plan on showing her my food logs and see where to make some improvements. I would guess protein, I'm not getting more than 40 grams a day or so. I'm pretty sure my metabolism is a bit screwed up due to 5 years of calorie restriction, the minute the band was unfilled and I started eating 1500-1800 calories a day, I put on 40 lbs super fast, just a matter of a few months. So frustrating. I wish I could just be like a regular thin person. Eat till I'm full, exercise daily and maintain a healthy weight. But noooooo....I must obsess over protein, calories, portions, it's like torture! I sometimes wonder what I did wrong in life to have this as my lot.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

So I restarted the Couch to 5K program and have been running it everyday instead of every other. ( only because I was running on and off for the past 5 years). If any of you are looking to start exercising, I highly recommend the program. I never ran a day in my life before starting the program and I went on to run 10-12 miles. I also started lifting weights again, however, it may have been a bad idea because now i have pain at my old port site, the doc left my old port in. First fill on Thursday! I hope I can have a bit more restriction....I'm a bit hungry after only 1/2 of a cup of food. I've been averaging about 800 calories a day and doing 3 miles on the treadmill burning around 600 calories at the gym and have only lost 4lbs so far. It sure is so much harder to lose this time. I'm a bit jealous of all of your huge losses! Go girls! Have a great weekend D

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi, I'm a rebander and this time around is a bit different. I was banded on july 21st and i've only lost 2 pounds despite following the post op diet to the letter. I'm slowly getting my energy back and just started to be able to eat soft meats. I think I have a bit of restriction, the new band has taken the edge off the constant hunger and I feel like I'm back on track. My first fill is on the 18th. D

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Yeah it could totally be that...The dr. recommends 800 calories a day, so I'm trying to follow his advice. I have my first fill in 2 weeks, so I plan on showing him my food logs and see what i've lost and see what feedback he gives me. I just had so many hopes with this new band...I imagined I'd be down 10lbs or so by now. I lost slowish the first time around too. Took 3 years to lose 100. But yeah, you are prob right about not having enough calories. HOw many calories do the rest of you eat?

    July 2011 Bandsters!

so...I'm 16 days out and have only lost 2lbs...i dont know how that is possible since i've only been eating 500-800 calories a day and still on full liquids and really mushie type foods. I suppose because i'm a rebander, my body is already used to cutting calories drastically. I got a bodybugg a week ago and let me tell you, it is so motivating to see how many calories I am burning. my kids went back to school today so I went back to the gym, it felt great to jog again, I pretty much took the summer off. I hope everyone here is doing fantastic! Keep up the losses, it's motivating to see people doing well. Danielle

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

I was banded 5 years ago, and found out i had a leak this year. Gained back 40lbs or so, so I decided to get rebanded. Hoping to lose this extra weight this year. Im so depressed over the gain, it makes me sick that I was 20lbs from goal and now more like 60-70 again. So upsetting. I'm hoping by coming back to LBT I'll get back on the track that I was previously on.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I have my first Dr. Appt tomorrow post op...and I am up 6lbs from surgery for some reason! ugh...how could this be? Weight dropped off the first time around, especially in the first few weeks. This had better work. I'm so discouraged now.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Supposed to be on clear liquids till Thursday, but I was so weak and tired from the 200-400 calories a day from broth and water and popsicles. I had 1/2 cup of campbells tomato soup made with water , really thin, and it was like heaven! Heaven!!! I had so much energy, took the kids to a jump place for 4 hours and then went to 3 stores. I think I can handle soup for 2 weeks, but so looking forward to mushies!! How is everyone doing
