    Complications

Wow...thanks for sharing your story. Makes my complications seem so trivial. Just try to stay positive...I know, it's easier said than done. You are in my prayers...

    Hiatal Hernia And Severe Refux

I did not have the hiatal hernia at the time of my VSG. My doctor said he always checks for this and even showed me in his surgeon's notes where it stated I didn't have a hernia. I also did not have this terrible reflux before surgery.
  4. It seems I have developed a hiatal hernia after having VSG. The hernia is causing me to have severe reflux. I'm not able to keep food down the majority of the time. Has anyone else had this happen? My doctor recommends surgery to repair the hernia, or to convert to a bypass. Should this be covered under the I year post op complications coverage?
  5. Hey guys! I was sleeved in July of 2011. Since then, I've had some problems. Once I started on soft foods, I was not able to keep my food down. In September of 2011, I had to have my gallbladder removed. I was still nauseated after every meal, but able to keep the food down...until about January of this year. I recently had an endoscopy and an upper GI with a barium swallow. My tests indicated that I have pretty severe acid reflux and a hiatal hernia. I just got back from the doctor. His recommendation was medicine and time, or some sort of tissue repair surgery. It seems they can't do the typical hernia repair fundoplication because the part of the stomach that was removed is used for that. He said another option is to convert my sleeve to a gastric bypass. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? Also, I am a cash pay patient...should the tissue repair surgery or gastric bypass conversion be covered under the 1 year complication coverage? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
  6. Hi This is my first time posting, although I've been lurking around here (and lap band talk) for weeks. Everyone on here is so nice, helpful, informative, and supportive. Well, I have been struggling with the decision on whether to get the lap band or the gastric sleeve. After my consultation, and after attending a support group and a seminar, and after exploring these forums, I have confidently decided on the sleeve. Yay!! I had my blood work done on Monday. The lady called me today to tell me that my white blood cell count was high. She asked me if I was sick or had an infection of some kind. I told her that I feel fine. I ended up having to go today to get more blood drawn and get a urinalysis. Any ideas on why my count would be high, and/or how I could not know I have an infection of some kind? Could this delay my surgery? I really want to have this done before I return to school (I'm a teacher).
