OUTPATIENT vsg anyone?
janinemaire replied to jennifer6791's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was supposed to stay for 2 nights but couldn't take being away from home, so I begged my doctor to let me leave the next day. -
Peanutbutter balls
janinemaire replied to SuperMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This does seems yummy, how many pb balls does it make. If it makes 20 it came up for me- 98 cal, 6 carbs and 4 grams of protein. I would freeze it and use it as a snack when I want something sweet. -
Onederland is just around the corner!!!

Avoiding Protein Shakes
janinemaire replied to JackieOMonroe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one protein shake and never had it again, it made me so sick. I got unflavored protein powder and mixed it with yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar free pudding anything smooth the first few weeks. Good luck? -
I also complare myself to others and I am a slow loser, as of today 74 total, 65 pounds since my surgery in Nov and I have 50 pounds to go. But I know I'll still make it to goal and want to enjoy every pound that comes off. You don't have that much to loss so 27 pounds is really very good. Coops- I'm glad your feeling more positive with your weight loss again. Did you change anything to help you start losing again? Janine

5 mos calorie intake
janinemaire replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might not have as much problem staying around 800-1000 calories if you lower your carbs. 60 and under in carbs is do-able. I try to stay away from bad carbs because it makes me feel hungry while Protein keeps me full and protein always first. Your losing weight nicely but now is the time to choose the way we want to eat the rest of lives. High protein /low carb is something I can stick with. I just started walking 2 months ago and even though it hasn't made me loss any faster, I feel firmer and have more energy. You'll be fine, Janine -
5 mos calorie intake
janinemaire replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to ask you about your carbs, that is basically the only way my calories get to high. I don't feel everyone needs to eat just 30 gram of carbs but I seldom go over 60. Again just my opinion I wouldn't eat just veges for your Snacks. Have a string cheese or other Protein, it should keep you feeling full longer. If I feel more hungry before my TOM, I up my protein and my calories still stay low. Every one is different and has different needs, talk with your doctor again. I only lose 6-8 pounds a month, I've tried different things to lose faster but that is just how I lose, at least I'm still losing. Good luck -
Am I mentally prepared?
janinemaire replied to 1tracy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Mina, I had my surgery 8 months ago and I'm still learning new things about how and why I ate the way I did. I think it is good to get some counseling dealing with food issues if your an emotional eater. With that said the therapist I had to see before my surgery did nothing to help me but make sure I was okay mentally. Good luck on your journey! -
I took off one week, two would have been nice but I couldn't afford it. I have a daycare and was losing money.

5 mos calorie intake
janinemaire replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my opinion that does seem high, I'm almost 8 months out and only if I eat sweets is the only way I'm over 1000 calories. I usually stay around 850 calories but I'm still a very slow loser. -
JUST CURIOUS....6 months out!
janinemaire replied to hopeandfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I shouldn't but I do compare myself to others, I really wished I lost all my weight in the first 6 months. I'm almost 8 months and lost 73 pounds with 52 pounds to go. I just worry that I'll stop losing. Reading everyones replies we should all be so proud of ourselves no matter how fast or slow we loss. -
Hi, MSanti- I'm glad your doing good, I hope your loving your sleeve as much as I love mine. A lot of you from NY had your surgery recently. I hope you all are feeling good and if your not you will feel great before you know it. take care Janine: )

Can anyone recommend an OTC that is comparable to nexium
janinemaire posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 7 months ago and was trying to stop taking my nexium basically because my prescription ran out of refills but I realize I still need it. I can’t get an appointment with my doctor till next week and they won’t just refill because I missed my last appointment. Does any know what I can take that is over the counter that is the same as nexium? Thank you Janine -

janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Samantha, by the way your doing great and look amazing. For some reason I can't open up some of the post but are you the one that posted about living in NY. I'm about 30 minute north from the city, Janine -
Drinking after meals...can I??
janinemaire replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also would get sick still after 7 months if I drank after a meal. Its such a habit in our house not even my kids drink when they eat. -
What do you eat for breakfast???
janinemaire replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have one egg and a morning star vegaterian sausage almost every morning, I usually don't eat till 10:00 because I need my coffee first. I have a question for people who eat cereal. I tried cereal last week and it made me feel sick (i'm 7 months out), it seemed like I was drinking and eating at the same time. It doesn't bother you the milky cereal also how about soup? I used to love cereal as a night time snack. -
How do you know when you're full?
janinemaire replied to bert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate when I'm too full, I measure my food but at 7 months I struggle to eat 3 oz of food. I make a loud hiccup when I'm full, my kids now say Mom's done eating, its embarassing, lol. Eat slow and you will figure out your full signs. -
Am I eating to much?
janinemaire replied to trinhle905's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 months out, I think a Boca burger is a great choice. I believe they have around 120 calories and with cheese maybe a extra 80 calories. Also they are high in Protein and Fiber. With spinach maybe the whole thing was 220 good healthy calories. Chicken- 3 oz is about 90 calories and it takes me longer to eat chicken than a boca burger because boca burgers have some carbs so it goes down easier. Sometimes we need a change from pure protein. I love vegetarian sausage, I have that and a egg almost ever morning since I was 2 months out. -
No support on this Journey
janinemaire replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you not getting the support at home, this board is my life saver. I do get support at home but only the people who have been through it really understand. Maybe your husband will change but that can't stop you from completing your goals. Which by the way your almost there, less than 20 pounds that is so great. Now that I've had my surgery in my opinion wls is the best option for real weight loss and long term results. Last year my friends told me don't do the surgery join weight watchers (again), and they lost weight. This year I'm losing weight and they have already regained all the weight they lost. I would like to see a show about people who have kept off their weight also. Keep up the good work: ) Janine -
Soon as we hear the word never thats when we want it more. I could never be that strict with myself, I'm not a saint. I seldom have soda because it does bother me, but sometimes with a lot of ice i'll have diet coke. I do have a sweet thing once in a while. Caffeine everyday and I watch my salt intake. For me the sleeve is about living a healthy normal life. Everyone does things there way and what works for them, and you will find yours, good luck, Janine

One thing I forgot to mention when I posted how much I loved my coffee, not to be gross but I need to have access to a bathroom. So be careful!!! I also love tea when my stomach can't handle coffee. I'll have to try Stash Black tea, what is it compared to? Thx

Hi, I think any excercise you feel you will stick with and enjoy is great. As you lose more weight you will increase what you can do. Good luck, Janine

5 potato chips please
janinemaire replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love plain Lays chips, I have not bought chips or really any junk food since my surgery 7 months ago. Those 5 chips may have been filling now but in a few months they won't be. I do know what you mean I have a 14 year old boy, and he can eat so much. I can't believe he stays so thin, but he's not a junk eater. We'll have to get a second job just to feed these teens. If my kids want a treat they can get a single serving but they know I have a no junk food rule in the house. -
Calorie limits for success?
janinemaire replied to ahoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi ahoy, I think when you start eating real protein like chicken you will feel it unlike mushy protein or food. I'm 7 months out I still can barely eat 3 oz of food. I eat around 800-900 calories a day and I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I also could not eat low carb before the surgery, it really bothered my stomach all the protein. Now carbs bother my stomach. Things sure change after we get the sleeve, good luck: ) Janine
