Hi TMO! I am going to Dr Ortiz on the 16th and I was wondering how post op was for you. What did you eat, were you starving?

Just started pre-op liquid diet
So excited for you! Tell me how its going so far! I just started the 9 day pre op liquid protein only diet and I am struggling!

plication
Howdy! I think that Dr. Watkin is certainly good at what he does, but I believe that Dr. Ortiz has been doing the plication longer. I am scheduled on the 16th with Dr. Ortiz and I have spoken with him and others that have used him and all have great things to say! I am in AZ so Dr. Ortiz was closer for me and also cheaper! Can't beat that!!!

Alcohol Consumption
Okay so I am 9 days pre op and have just begun the liquid diet (so hard!) and I was just re reading through my materials. I see that it says that you should have no alcohol two weeks prior to the surgery, but I just celebrated my 30th on Sunday and totally drank. Is this terrible???? I'm wondering if anyone else drank close to their surgery date?

120 lbs and plication?
Leaks with a plication are very rare and are much less likely with plication. Also, pliction is reversible ,at least that what my surgeon says (Dr. Ortiz). I asked him also which would he choose and he said like many others have said, you have to do the research. Bottom line, it is probably quite difficult to be objective after you have hadthe sleeve and seen success. I have no doubt that VSG is successful, but I believe the plication can and will be just as successfull without the heavy cutting.

GPS Complications?
That is totally disappointing to hear. Seriously, I hope that is the exception and not the rule because I will be sooooo mad!

GPS Complications?
Thanks for the update Melanie! So glad you're doing well. I have heard that the results with VSG are supposed to be similar to the GSP. I would imagine that you are not able to eat nearly as much right?

Undecided, which Dr. do you recommend and why?
How exciting WSU! I will be sure and post how it goes, I am really excited and have spoken with Dr. Ortiz several times with questions. So far he has been very forthcoming and informative.

GPS Complications?
How long has it been since your surgery? Are you following a calorie restricted diet by chance, like weight watchers?
-
GPS Complications?
That is terrible to hear! Do you mind my asking who did your surgery? Maybe there isn't enough restriction.

GPS Complications?
In light of the recent post made by a gal who said she had some complications with the plication, I'm wondering if anyone who has had issues could post on here so those of us who have not had the surgery yet can be educated and also be enlightened as to how often complications occur. Also, who did your surgery if you had complications. This would really help so much!

Unexpected Complication From Plication Surgery
Your story sounds awful and besides feeling terrible for you, I am now freaking about my upcoming surgery in February. A few questions: How would the surgeon have prevented this from happening to you? Did the bariatric surgeon you consulted discuss what WLS would have been better besides the plication. If you had to do it over would you do something else?
-
sip sip sipping!
So glad that you are doing well! I am scheduled to have this surgery on the 15th of February so please please keep us updated on your progress. I would love to know what to look out for and especially what kind of weight loss you are seeing. Hang in there!

Plication Regrets?
Am I reading these stats correctly? Does this mean that at 36 months people were gaining weight since the percentage is going down? I have to admit these numbers aren't as great as I would like them to be

Undecided, which Dr. do you recommend and why?
When you say you've been a saint, does that mean you've really had to exhibit some serious willpower? I am fearful of that simply because I have none! That's why I'm getting the surgery. Have you found that its been easier to make the right choice with this surgery or are struggling in the same way you were before the surgery?

Undecided, which Dr. do you recommend and why?
That's great Genepha! I think the pain of staying the same is far greater than the pain of going through with it right? Tijuana Plication? How is your weight loss coming? What should I expect for weight loss. I don't have a high BMI to start I suppose (I am about 33) so does that mean I will lose more slowly?

Not enough restriction?
How's it going now Sarah? Any better on the weight loss? Just curious because I am getting ready to have the GPS on Feb 15th.

Plication Regrets?
I am scheduled to have the surgery on the 15th of February with Dr. Ortiz and I am just wondering if anyone has any regrets after having this surgery. It seems there are some people on here who aren't losing the weight with it and that concerns me some. I am curious how much weight loss people are experiencing 6-12 months out.

Undecided, which Dr. do you recommend and why?
I have been researching doctors for what seems like FOREVER (Watkins, Corvala, and Ortiz) and I think I have finally selected Ortiz. His facility has a higher rating of excellence than any of the other facilities (the same rating as UCLA and Stanford hospitals) and he has a ton of American accolades. I asked if he used the endoflip since I had seen all of this info on here about that tool, and he does not use the endoflip because it is not actually legal in Mexico yet. It is only allowed for trial purposes for a few doctors. Dr. Ortiz said that if he had really thought it was a better tool than the bougie he would have fought to participate in the trial. After getting over the fact that yes I am actually having WLS and doing it in Mexico to boot I booked my surgery. February 15th! I am so freaking out now. Is that normal to freak once you've put your surgery on the books? All of these crazy thoughts keep going through my head. I have two little ones and just can't imagine having something happen, like I don't know....death. Sheesh, I am losing it.
