  2. hi ocean, my surgery is on thursday 12/15/11. i've been up every morning this week at about 2:00 AM because i couldn't sleep, and i actually would wake up crying. i am so nervous, which is silly because unlike some others, i have had many surgeries. Since the beginning of this process, i knew i would be nervous about post surgery, eating mush, liquids, and just doing everything right, never in my dreams did i think i would be nervous about the actual surgery. but here i sit with tears in my eyes, just waiting for thurday 12/15/11 - i do know everything will be fine, i'm just a little apprehensive for the past week. oh well this to shall pass O) katy
  3. hi runner, don't kick yourself too hard - the point is you are having the surgery soon. it is a very hard decision, and you just weren't ready last year, but now you are, better late than never. My WLS is thursday 12/15/11 i'm so scared, but i will proceed because its so medically necessary. good luck on your journey. the process might take awhile, but i know it will be worth it for both of us. take care and best wishes kathy
  4. hi lilgetuar, thanx for the words of encouragement - sorry but i'm still freaking. i never thought in a million years i'd be acting like this. I've had many surgeries over the past 15 years - they were all necessary - from cancer, broke femur, broke wrist, ankles - others too just cant think.... the difference is they all had to be done it was never my choice. this is my decision, it does have to be done for so many health issues from diabetes to sleep apnea to... but we all have these problems. this time i'm in charge, and making this decision was hard, and now i'm actually scared of the surgery itself. I'm freaking out. i know everything will be fine, I woke my DH up w/ my sobbing, he tried to comfort me, but i "yelled" at him and kindof said - go back to sleep. I just didn't want to talk. thats when i got up to talk at you guys. Thanx for always being there. Your're probably wiping your eyes if you're reading this while i am writing at 5:13 am. bye for now BTW my surgery is Thursday 12/15/11 kathy DOS 12/15/11 3:00 pm

    That "certain Age"

My DOS is 12/15/11 - my only problem/concern, is that i wish i had done this procedure earlier. now i'm a "young/old" 58 yr - wish i had done this 30 yrs ago- at least i'm having it done finally hugggggs to all kathy
  6. hi all fellow december sleevers, my thoughts, concerns, are running all over the place also, just like everyone elses. when i have any concerns, am scared, doubts or whatever, i think to myself, "do I want to improve my diabetes, high cholesterol, blood pressure, sleep apnea et al, and of course improve my weight so i'm not huffing and puffing?" and all that other good stuff. Of course i know what the answer is. This is a really big decision we all made, but we thought about it, said lets go, so here we go, starting towards a new year, and life. Did i answer the question or just rant on ;o) oh well kathy DOS 12/15/11 ps since the other day, what happened to our signatures? I don't always remember who i am!
  7. chigga77 - i agree its better that he found the situation before the surgery, just to be safe. I was cleared by my cardiologist, DOS 12/6/11 - but the nurse called me 3 days prior to WLS to POSTPONE!! I was so upset, but she said the dr. wanted to see me. Dr. was actually in room when she called me, - and he got on the line to explain about the "possible" prob about my cardio and he just wanted to change hospitals to one that was more qualified if problem occurred. Just wanted to make sure all would go fine. What i'm trying to say ( being longwinded sorry) it's better to make sure all is ok and be prepared for all, make sure the problem is resolved. All is good now, DOS changed to 12/15/11 and i feel better that the dr. was concerned just like your dr. Its good to have a caring dr. to make sure you're ok. Everything will be great, sorry about your wait (weight!!) it'll all work out for the better ) hugggggs Kathy

    What Tastes Good Pureed?

hi fellow sleevers i'm pre-op DOS 12/15/11 - i have to admit the thought of pureed food makes me gag a little. I saw my NUT yesterday, she's the best, and she said not to think about the different food stages yet - After my 1rst 10 days of WLS - and drinking, sip, sip, sip - we'll be meeting again and talk about the next stage. isn't cottage cheese, SF pudding, yogurt and Jello, SF popsicles and other stuff like that Kosher as mushy food? again, the thought of putting real food in a blender....well i think i'd rather get my tooth pulled but if i have to eat more mushy stuff, well for this weight loss, i'll do anything.
  14. "sorry for taking so long to answer your questions but now you're 3 day post-op" hi cropqueen, well.....i'm not 3 days out, unfortunately my 12/6/11 surgery was postponed until 12/15/11 - right around the corner. I'm still very anxious about getting all my H20 in, and Protein - but i'm so excited i'll be fine. hope this finds you well kathy

I had to have a dble mastectomy 12 yrs. ago, I've been fine and healthy since. I always wanted to be smaller after being too large. Anyways..... my DH said to me, "anything more than a mouthful is a waste", is that TMI kathy
  16. i hope i'm posting in the right place. i want to ask you all since you've already been sleeved, does everyone get a drain , i thought the answer was yes - but i think i heard from the nurse briefly that the dr. doesn't use drains. Is that possible? My DOS is 12/15/11 - can't wait kathy

    Hair Loss After Vsg

i'm pre-op DOS 12/15/11 very soon- i know after the surgery i'll use the Protein shakes to get in my protein in, For later i know chicken i.e. has a lot of protein in it, how does that get measured since it will be in small quantities. other Proteins in other foods? My NUT says not to worry yet cuz i will see her 10 days post surgery, and we'll talk about the 1rst stage of proper protein & stuff. i'm still concerned - cuz i don't know where i'll get 60 grams of protein from such small amounts of food and how it will be measured. she told me once to use those 1 oz. measuring cups. How in the world is that supposed to work with solids? i think i'm just getting nervous cuz my surgery is so soon. Thanx

Just Beginning My Gastric Sleeve Journey

i see your point about the fact that WLS is still "considered elective surgery" Being considered elective surgery is nuts. I think in the future that might change (not considering its elective ) Your health will be totally improved by the surgery, and thats what she needs to understand -with the weight loss, you will be more mentally and physically ready to work with your excess weight being initially removed, then the long journey ahead. This is not a vanity thing.(she might incorrectly think it is) With you being more healthy you might not have to lose some time due to illnesses that might occur if you didn't have the sleeve. Sending good wishes your way Good luck with this - i hope everything work out for you - keep us posted. kathy kathy We all know the sleeve is just a "tool", but its the tool that will help you lose all that weight.

Just Beginning My Gastric Sleeve Journey

OMG Rebecca I can't believe your boss can do this. Did you tell her you were having WLS, if you did maybe she thinks "oh thats not so important." Maybe she's holding that against you. Regardless, i don't think she has the right to deny you of your surgery, when you already have a date. Talk to her again, then you MUST speak to someone else. I understand about you being afraid of retaliation, but she is not allowed to do so. good luck - would love to hear from you kathy

    Carbs, Weights, And Sagging Skin

    Gastric Sleeve Surgery Denied!

i was always told that you must have a BMI of at least 40, or at least 4 morbidies (msp) etc. sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high chloresterol (msp) and diabetes to name a few. good luck kathy
  23. hi shellyac - thanx for your thoughts on the diabetes situation. I do know that the gastric bypass et all does improve diabetes quickly - i hope the sleeve does improve my situation. what is the band with plication? good luck w/your journey kathy
  24. When I told my dr. i definitely wanted the sleeve, he also tried to change my mind and have the gastric bypass. I don't whats going on with that. I just don't want that big surgery either, i also don't want my intestines messes with. Also the sleeve is the only WLS that has no absorption problems. This is extremely important due to the the fact I have epilepsy I do have diabetes, i was under the hopeful impress that having the sleeve would eliminate diabetes. It does this with gastric bypass - but my surgeon says it doesn't always clear diabetes. oh well we'll see. I would love it the WLS would clear up my diabetes, or at least lessen it.
  25. Oh my goodness, first of all you get an "A+" for patience. I can't believe they only due 2 WLS a month, and you have been waiting for 2 years. I am so sorry for this. If you can afford it i would try to go to mexico. i didn't do that, but many many people have, and they all say good things. Don't give up - you're in everybody's thoughts. Write anytime for support, and venting is popular too. Thats what this board is all about. I find alot of support and good info. Take care kathy
