Support System After Vsg
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
jasleeve don't feel wrong/bad about asking for help from your friends acquaintances . Thats what friends are for. If one of your friends called to talk to you saying they need someone to talk to for some help, or just to talk, would you turn away, of course not. "you might have an underlying depression going on" my therapist once told me that 50% of people go to a therapist, the other 50% should.. Dorrie i agree with what you said "that this is a hard time around the holidays for many people" , and people might feel (incorrectly) that you are busy with other friends and family) it is a hard time for many, but..... Jasleeve I have long arms, i wish i could give you a big hug many good thoughts being sent to you kathy DOS12/15/11 -
4 Days Post Op 24 Yrs Old
ProudGrammy replied to Bcole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
happy holidays Bcole, it sounds like you jumped through WLS with flying colors. congratulationsyou should be the new poster girl. no nausea, pain, gas. man oh man, what more could you ask for. Being a little tired, well that just reminds you that you just had surgery and should take it easy for a bit. one comment from me and possibly other WLS "survivors" is "they wish they had done this earlier" well chicke, you can't do this much earlier than your ripe young age of 24. I'm so jealous. You see i'm being an old fart of 58, WLS was not even around back then with the dinosaurs . Oh well..... i'm so very glad things went so smoothly for you. I was amongst the luckier ones too. Keep on keepingon but maybe you better get rid of the thoughts of Dorito's - least for a while ho ho ho kathy -
newdaycomn, i have been scared for holiday foods. i'm totally staying away from Cookies et. al - we don't really go out much. A lot of that is my doing. Every year a neighbor passes out these crumb cakes in a nice container to our neighbors. i put the cake down for DH, i kept staring at it. i took the smallest 2 "covers" from the top. They were so teeny, teeny, teeny -really they were, but i ate them. it was so good. i didn't feel "too" guilty - but since i'm only 9 days post op, i could tell i felt weird afterwards. Hopefully thats enough of a feeling not to do it again. i think/hope it will work, at least for a long time. Newday- like your name implimes - tomorrow is a new day, your weight loss will not stop, just get back on the wagon and don't fall off. Its also a new year coming. happy new year bud - best wishes to all of us, continued good success kathy

First Time Going Out To Eat After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
ProudGrammy replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi lissa - my wls was on 12/15/11 - i thought broth was considered a liquid, and its "unlimited" I like to drink that as one of my liquids. i know you're always supposed to drink 64oz of H20, but why is drinking all that Water, different, or better than drinking another liquid (not the broth) haven't got all mywater in yet, and not the Protein either, but i'm getting there. thanx kathy -

Bmi Normal! Before And After Pics
ProudGrammy replied to decamom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You and i started the journey together with the exact same weight you've made it to the finish line, and i'm just starting. As everyone has said totally being honest, chic you look great. So when i lose 90+ lbs i'll look just like that, right? Not!!!lolol i'm 58, and you're 30ish? (never good with guessing ages) - so where does that leave me? It leaves me as a very healthy, happy 58 yr young grand-mother of 3, what more could i ask for? kathy -
Am I Really Ready For The Inevitable Lifestyle Change. Were U?
ProudGrammy replied to Kareforme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi rosiesweetie - i never knew you're early pre-op story about drinking 2 shakes a day w/one meal OMG - 6 months - do you mind if i ask how much weight did you lose pre-op? i'm only 8 days post-op but dr. didn't require weight loss before WLS (i wish he had cuz i actually gained weight on a last fling) anyways, i'm feeling and doing well - my "mental" problems" came yesterday when i was out and about and saw a ton of food restaurants. i wanted to faint. so yes Kareform, alot of this "hunger" is in your head, stress all that good stuff. Diligence will get us through every day. kathy enjoy your jouney, we'll all see less of you on the other side kathy -
thanx fellow swimmers for your comments about legs staying afloat if i were to hold on to the side/edge of the pool kicking/practicing would that help with my sinking legs problem thanx kathy
-
thanx to all about the swimming facts - i never would have thought to put my head down, look straight down at the pool, shoulders down - tell me, would it be a good idea to hold on to the side of the pool and kick? with all the advice you gave - or that doesn't really work? kindof like a practice to the swimming? thanx kathy

How Many Calories Should We Get In Each Day?
ProudGrammy replied to Mike Cannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi mike cannon i agree that all dr.s vary in there decision about things. My dr. told me about 800 calories. ************************************************** Changing the subject for a quick minute - i have to say, "how terribly cute is that" you and your wife doing this journey together. I've heard of "through sickness and health" but man - this brings it to a whole new dimension My dr. did tell me about 600-800 calories, but like i said all docs are different. Good luck kathy -
Still Wanna Pick At Food
ProudGrammy replied to frumpy69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi frumpy i'm 8 days post op. i think i really know what you mean about getting my hands on some goodies. i'm not usually that hungry for food, goodies, etc. But....today my DH and i were driving and we passed a bunch of food place, ice cream - and pastries. OMG the site of those stores, i started salivating. Its early in the game, and i think we're just mourning the loss of the yummy good food that we always relished. But we'll survive. We didn't do this sleeve for nothing - and it will be great, and we'll be the better/wiser Good luck to us both of us, and all fellow sleevers with similar situation kathy -
PEvette Hi - i think the stigma behind seeing a therapist has improved. It sure couldn't hurt seeing someone to talk to and more than likely it will help talking about various issues. I can totally relate to you "being afraid of failure" , but we can work on this, and come out the better person (easier said then done, i know) I speak to my therapist about various problems twice a month, but it seems like we frequently get back to my weight issues because thats a very important issue for me. Good luck on your upcoming surgery best kathy
-
Happy1957 good for you - you weren't about to give in to something you knew you should have and deserved. i don't know if i could have been as strong as you. What willpower you have, you should be so proud of yourself. Obviously you're not afraid to speak up for yourself - so you'll obviously go far with whatever you want to do in the future. Congrats on your upcoming sleeve by the end of the year

And The Issues Are Back...first Update
ProudGrammy replied to sasicas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sasicas -hi - if i were you i would see another surgeon/dr. for another opinion. - in my opinion you shouldn't do anything so serious, a possible gastric bypass, without talking to another person or 2. It never hurts to get another opinion just to be on the safe side. if all dr.s agree - then you can take it from there. But explore all your options, talk to people - you must be totally informed and understand why such a procedure is necessary to do because of your other troubles. If they do tell you of a good alternative, its not always easy to understand - stay informed - very important I'm only 8 days post op. but i'm just speaking as a regular patient - who is totally looking out for herself anxious to hear your next step - best kathy -
6 Days Away From Soft Food
ProudGrammy replied to aprilisabrat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
seriously, does that mean no milk or teeny piece of butter? better to make a whole fresh potato or potatoe buds? Does it matter? If you do use the chicken broth is that instead of Water, does it taste ok, or just "ok" kathy -
3 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery & Shakes?
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi jasleeve so sorry you're going through these problems. I drink unjury vanilla. i think its good. But everyones taste is different. i know on the computer you can go to different sites like unjury and get sample flavors. Once i find something i like (like the vanilla injury) i stick to it, and don't experiment. But on the other hand, since we're only talking about samples - maybe trying a variety wouldn't be bad keybold64, good idea about mixing unflavored Protein shake (i.e. injury) with Water or chrystal lite or any other liquid like that. That way its not so thick and you might be able to tolerate the Protein Drink better, cuz of course you MUST get your protein it. hope others respond with more suggestion keep on keepon - you'll make it sending good wishes kathy -
hi - i really do like the unjury vanilla Protein shakes. i've always been afraid to add anything to a shake like you mentioned about the frozen strawberries. I'm only 7 days post-op so i know i can't have the strawberry yet, but what else could i add? Any suggestions? kathy

ProudGrammy replied to Soon to be me's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions

I luv purple popsicles though Soon to be me et al: i had the scariest dream last night, 1rst off candy bars are one of my biggest weaknessess I dreamt that about one million candy bars like snickers, babe ruth, butter fingers, etc. etc. etc. were jumping and hopping all around my bed and attacking me. I'm not kidding - no smiley face here it was a nightmare kathy DOS 12/15/11 -

NoNoNo Missnurse, you know better than to peek at the scale so ofter. It will drive you crazy. I am post-op 12/15/11. I wish i had taken my measurements before surgery, but thats great you're losing inches. Keep up the good work. i can tell you're doing absolutely terrific. I'm not at 3 weeks yet but i hear that early stalls do happen, and they can and will happen again at any time. Don't worry about it. I know, easier said than done Just stop staring at tha darn scale so much. It does move best wishes kathy
