    Who Are You?

hi fellow sleeversi' my name is kathy. i am happily married 58 yr. young grandmother of the 3 cutest grandkids. I am not being biased, just stating the truth i have one married daughter and a great son-in-law. I took an early retirement at 53, due to the fact that i had broken my femur and 2 knee replacements within a very short time. I was born in Budapest, Hungary - and came to the U.S. during the '56 revolution with my 4 yr. old sister, and my parents. I have 3 sisters, and 1 brother, I am also a proud breast cancer survivor going on 12 years. kathy
  7. Sleeve of Steel i think JewelWithin said it best: Bring the subject up with taking things to the next level physically, but you're nervous and then explain why. i had a double mastectomy in 1998. I told my guy i was nervous, and I needed to talk... we've been happily married these past 10 years. (kindof the same?) kathy
  8. hi my DOS was 12/15/11 - saw the dr. 10 days later - and won't see him again til 2/8/11 - no blood work for me either. i'm not worried, as we always say - all dr.'s are different. PS sorry you had to have another surgery so soon after WLS kathy

    21 Days Post-op-

hey "dad" (no first name:) congratulations on your sleeve, it will be your new best friend for life. Great start for your weight loss too!! A good jump start with your weight loss does make you feel great. Go with the feeling eating food without "washing" it down with Water, thats a hard one for most people. I alway ate and drank together. Read the boards you'll get great info and conversation here. Go enjoy playing with your son more and more as the weight goes. You'll get there. See you around the block. kathy

    1 Year Post Op Checkup

hi paul, I'm sitting here reading your terrific post with a big grin on my face. I am a newbie DOS 12/15/11, i am scared what the future holds for me like i'm sure you were 1 yr. ago too. Will this weight come off, can i really do it this. How long will it take? What does the future hold for me? Then I see amazing stories like yours. I smile to myself and say, "if Paul can do this, so can I" Your story gives me such good feelings and hope, I know i can and will succeed - it just seems so far away. I didn't wake up one morning with 90 extra lbs, nor will i go to bed one night will all this excess weight gone. I know your journey will continue you will do great. You have SUCCESS written all over your face. One million times over congratulations, keep walking forward and upward, i will be right behind you, before you know it i'll catch up with you. Congratulations, you will do this forever and a day with all the success you deserve. It was great hearing your story, you are such an inspiration. Thank you You deserve much applause and continued happiness. kathy
  11. hello i am one of the lucky one that likes Protein shakes. i get the unjury vanilla. my question is this - if i didn't get enough protein in for the day with my foods, is it a problem to just have another shake, and i use skim milk so thats even more protein. i am 3 weeks post op. Just starting ounce of solid food per NUT. Can't wait to have 3 ounces per meal. Anyways back to the protein, is it ok to add a Protein Shake to get enough for the day. Of course I would have the drink 30 minutes after the food. One more thing, do you use Protein Bars too. thanx kathy
  12. I would like to congratulate all the happy mothers via C-Section. This was no easy way out. You needed/wanted your baby to come and see this world being healthy - speaking for people that are overweight, we need/want our lives to see this world being healthy. Hello fellow sleevers, I am only 3 weeks post op but....... there is no question about it, WLS is not an easy way out. People that never had a problem with food or weight loss might say such a statement, but they don't know what they are speaking about.. I'm confused why anyone who has had WLS, whether it be the lapband, gasticbypass, or sleeve would think having WLS is the easy way out. When i told my mother about my surgery - she was so excited- she was going to see me in 2 wks and said, "my 90 lbs of weight would be all be gone" - like I took a magic pill to have it just disappear. i really think thats what she thought, along w/millions of other people. They are totally unaware of all the difficulties that begin to face us. WLS It is not magic, you put on in 10,20, 30lbs+ over many years, it won't come off with a snap of your fingers. We have to work hard for this to happen, continually for the rest of our lives, thats why its our journey. When i was in the hospital after my sleeve, the women next to me asked what kind of procedure i had? I told her I had WLS. She looked at me and said "you must have felt quite desperate". She was very nice. And, yes thats the right word. I was very desperate, but there is no easy way out by having the surgery. I am confused to why anyone that had the surgery would say "yes this is the easy way out"? what are they thinking? Do people think we go to bed overweight, and waking up the next morning with weight gone!!! Yes, that would be easy. We unfortunately can not do this, there is nothing like that possible - who knows about the future 1,000 yrs from now. working the sleeve kathy WLS 12/15/11
  13. mullet head & fellow sleevers OMG - my dr didn't give me a drain or leak test either, i was so happy. I didn't mention it here cuz i figured some people on the board might say "hmmmm, no drain or leak test, not good" to all my fellow sleevers i apologize on being a little "judgmental" jumping to conclusions etc. please forgive me ok kathy
  14. UXgrrl, thanx for your reply. To all in sleeveland Heres another example of differences. my DOS was 12/15/11 - my NUT told me not to take any Vitamins yet. I am always reading from Newbies about there vitamins they are taking. But like i said, NUT said no. I asked why should we wait, she just said she would rater wait for my 2nd visit, which is 2/8/12. Oh well, go figure kathy
  15. to have or not to have, you can have coffee, you can not have coffee, you can have this but not that...... i know all doctors are different, but i still don't understand why one dr or NUT. can say something so different than another. There all going for the same ending, that we're all fine and healthy and successful - so how there be so many opinions? kathy

    Approved!

APPROVED one of the best words in the dictionary !!!!! congratulations
  17. i've been eating the "Mrs. Grass" chicken broth l(seasoning in on small pkg. noodles in the other) don't put noodles in broth of course, but i know this is high in sodium. Told my NUT, she says its ok at this early stage DOS 12/15/11. But if i could learn to make broth with out that much sodium (salt) i'm sure it would be better for me. i luvvvvv my broth. simple directions for broth icc (i can't cook) lololol kathy

    Holiday Loser

thats so great, i've just started 12/15/11 - i know you've been around the block for awhile. I'm afraid that i can't handle to cheat a bit cuz i'm afraid i'd refer back to my "bad" eating. Who knows maybe one day i'll have a few bites of something here and there i probably shouldn't have. but as far as you are concerned - you've done great, and now another 10 lbs. cudos kathy

    Eating

DOS 12/15/2012 first real food this morning I made a scrambled egg - wow how totally cool. It looked so small in the big frying pan (gonna buy a small pan) anyways i sat down with my "breakfast" enjoyed every bite, chewed alot, etc. i only ate half i couldn't believe it, i've actually heard others on the board say they couldn't eat a whole egg either, but me..... wow- but the truth is i definitely felt full, but..... what if i had eaten the other 1/2? it sure looked like i could. the reason i didn't eat more was because i knew i was full and figured i didn't need to over eat. is this the right feeling i should have. haven't been there yet with experience. kathy

    Halfway To Goal!

hi Kristina - what a wonderful accomplishment-losing over 57 lbs. That's wonderful. You should feel so proud. Yes its true that when I see someone like you being so successful, it makes me all the more excited that this will happen to me also - hopefully sooner than later. Continued great success through your journey kathy
  23. ps when i said i confirmed i could drink liquids at a faster rate - i meant to say the NUT approved kathy again
  24. hi DOS 12/15/11 -i'm able to drink w/out a problem - i confirmed a couple of times that its ok to drink "faster" she said as long as my stomach can handle it, no problem. My problem is i can drink, i drink my 3 Protein shakes, but i have trouble getting my Water in. i drink alot of broth, and popsicles, but i know H20 is good for you, and once the shakes stop, and i have to increase my water cuz i am afraid i won't be successful. i drink the water, i don't dislike it, but i just can't drink that much, maybe the taste, i don't know. but i know i must drink more. plus the fact that i have to wait those 30-45 minutes before & after meals - its just hard for me to get all that water in - but i know most of you guys are successful help kathy
  25. hi susan, if you're trying to help with tec. stuff, i haven't had my ticker in some time - i've contacted with alex with no help ( if you can do this for me that would be great - kathy
