What changes did you make to your diet before surgery?
ProudGrammy replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jessica i see you've been "here" a couple of months, not sure if you've posted before if this is your first post - let me be the 1rst to give you a big official "Welcome Aboard". you sound very stressed, scared that you weren't given any "pre-instructions, advise" don't worry, you have plenty of times for small changes getting ready for WLS first off, all dr./NUTs are different - some will give you a pre-diet of anywhere from 2 days, a week, or more personally, i asked my dr about a pre-diet and he said no it wasn't necessary, didn't advise me to start more exercise or anything in hindsight i wish i had done more to prepare that being said you MUST stop the soda - carbonation is no good for you- ever!!!! coffee - slow down/stop drinking - at some point your dr will probably give you the go ahead to drink "alittle" coffee - but not for awhile PO most dr also don't want you to use a straw walking, exercise, WLS or not, is always beneficial - so go for it as far as drinking......this is one of the most important things concerning WLS you are NOT allowed to drink with your meals - stop drinking about 15-30 minutes before you eat and after you eat DON'T drink for 45-60 minutes these are very important rules that must be followed to the "T" you can and should practice especially the no drinking while you eat you don't drink much Water now??? thats GOTTA change!!!! you need to drink at least 64 oz daily- if you don't "people have been shot for less!!" Try drinking chrystal light - many people like that!!!! these are a few things you can work on gradually before WLS - this will help you alot once you have WLS you need to eat very slowly, chew thorougly - put your utensil down before bites, and wait to eat for another hr between bites gotcha but you do have to wait a minute or two you have a good 3 months to work on the above try not and stress too much, you have time to "work into stuff" BUT - once you have the WLS - you must do all these things so having the time to slowly prepare is terrific this is a lifetime change - you must always follow these rules you will do great I can see in your face you are a very determined young lady!!!! you are 23 years young!!! people "here" say something like "they wish they had done this earlier'!!!! you couldn't really have done this much earlier - well, you could have a pacifer in your mouth you will have a successful healthier, happier, longer life post WLS good luck best wishes -

Any Self Proclaimed Food Addicts?
ProudGrammy replied to dawndenise's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
dawndenise i was also afraid of failure - and many other people had this valid feeling you/me/we have all yo yo'd all our lives - loosing then regaining + so here goes one more attempt at loosing weight!!! why will this be different and you will reach goal and stay there??? for me, having MAJOR SURGERY was a big reason/help to initially say - "wait a minute, major surgery, i have to work really hard with my eating and not just blow it off" - something like that, i hope i said that right?? having 85% of our stomachs cut out - thats pretty drastic!!!! since your tummy is soooo small you can only eat X amount at a time you "only" eat your initial meals (some people are allowed a snack per their NUT) - but add up all the food you eat, drink for the day, and they must only = X amount of calories when/if you were to eat when you are not supposed to- eating all day long (this is called grazing) thats when you are cheating yourself and "trying" to cheat your sleeve -and you will gain weight!!!! you are always eating, high caloric food, junk, all those bad things we loved don't do it exercise is also very important, helpful people are gradually coming out of the woodwork to admit they didn't/don't exercise much (me too i'm afraid) but, "do as i say, not as i do" exercise is beneficial - who knows you might like it??? stranger things have been known to happen!!!! "eventually"/later you will be able to eat "small" pieces/bites of ie pizza - but control, control eating that small amount you can't help but lose weight!!!! you will measure your small amounts, chew your food to bits, put your utensil down between bites - take a breath - eating slowly is a MUST, chewing slowly is almost a must drinking your Water properly is also a MUST following all the proper "rules" regarding the WLS dealing with food - you WILL be successful - how could you not???? really!!!! I can't stress enough the importance of eating and drinking properly - waiting between meal with your proper drinking having the sleeve is not MAGIC you won't have the procedure on friday night as a "heavy" person and wake up monday being thin loosing the weight - everything takes time - you must be patient you will have periods where you will stall - you will have to deal with them and "try" not to get "too" upset this too will pass never compare yourself to other peoples weight loss, time period, amount you loose we all say the one thing we all have in common is that we're different go in with the positive attitude that you will SURVIVE and succeed you can and will do great, just stick to everything properly and btw - "this" (losing, maintaing your weight) is not over when you reach goal - you know that right?! you must continue to work hard you will be eating and drinking like this for the rest of your healthier, happier and longer life since you are going to Mexico, i hope you can still find some local help/support where explaining your different food stages Clear liquids, full liquids, mush puree', soft food, solids what you don't know ask here - maybe go to a support group even though you couldn't go to a local dr - your PCP might still advise you where to go -- ask a hospital - they have groups, and they should be nice and help you as far as having the surgery in mexico - i can't address that from personal experience - sounds like MOST/MANY people don't have problems i kindof said more than you asked - oh well, hope some extra helped take care good luck speedy recovery -
mark don't have that channel sounds like a good show i always love and look for tv shows you are describing

Shannon hey you rock star, looking good!!!! 113 lbs gone, gone, gone , forever - down the toilet, FLUSH!!!! its great that you have had so much success since WLS - no problems, recovery et al, vomitting - all is good!!! so great, hope you are rightly proud of yourself!!!! but.......... so sorry about your mom that much be difficult seeing her go through these problems maybe you feel "guilty" since you didn't have any problems?? if thats the case - DON'T feel that way - i'm sure mom is happy you have had a smooth time just be their for mom, like i see you are i see MANY people here have hernia surgery at the same time as WLS I "think" most of those people don't have problems (i never had that surgery, so obviously i'm not an expert) as with anything, OP do have problems with surgeries, always possiblity of complications, doesn't help you any that i am saying this to you I hope she can hold down liquids sooner than later, and she starts to feel better enough where they can release her to continue her re-cuperation at home being at home is always better hopefully - when this "situation" clears up - she'll be on the right road to recovery and success with her sleeve take care to both of you good luck!!!! again shannon, congrats on ALL your success - you deserve it!!!!

ProudGrammy replied to dantrup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are there any 4 or 5 year sleevers out there??? "many" are running around enjoying life for possibly the first time there are still a handful of sleevers that are further along than others - someone i think is 4 years out but for the most part - on this board you get your NEWBIES like you, then "they" become more experienced then they eventually "grow up" and become VETS by then "they" are ready to "leave the nest" periodically come back to visit the old neighborhood and see their "old friends" -
