Feeling Cold
I noticed that I get colder now after surgery as well. I was sleeved on July 22 and the cold flashes started about two days out...whether I am at home, in the car or outside (in the heat of the summer). I thought it wouldn't start until I was a month or two out at least. I was wrong, so now I just leave a jacket in the car and throw near the chair. The sleeping fan is finally getting a break . My office at work is generally freezing so when I return, I probably will need to dress as if it were winter time to survive even with a heater.

Thank you to my wife!
That is awesome...way to be supportive Mrs. Lopez! So I follow suit and give a shout out to my husband and son (16 years old). They both spent the night with me at the hospital and has taken really good care of me over the last two weeks.

What was the worst part after surgery ?
Second guessing is quite normal as this is a huge life changing event. I would worry if I hadn't second guessed my decision. I had to be on 24 hour Clear Liquids before surgery on July 22. I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 10:45 and in surgery by 12:45 pm. There was an issue in the operating room due to the high heat we were experiencing. I did not get into surgery until about 3pm. I was dying of thirst (or so it felt like). To top it off my menstrual cycle started. After surgery, when I awoke I was in my private room and had severe pain in my upper chest. It was gas, but it was intense, they gave me medicine through my IV and like others once I was able to burp, consistently, it helped alot as well as walking. I would say the worse parts for me were the intense dry mouth, thirst and the contrast dye to check for leaks the following day. That was the first thing I was allowed to drink after about 30 hours or so....can we say gross! Then I was able to drink Water, broth, etc. All in all, I would do it again and I do not regret my decision. At two weeks out I have lost 20lbs. and feel better than ok so far.

I cried at the supermarket today
Kate, did you peel the ginger root before blending?

Kettle Bells
I have used Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred It with Weights (I think that's right). I use a Tonex KB which is plastic, not quite as heavy as the original KB, but quite affordable. The workout is doable and Jillian isn't all scary, but man was I sore after completing it. Also I did the work out pre-surgery. I'm just a over a week out, so I can't get back to it just yet. I purchased my KB from Marshall's or TJ Maxx.

5 months post surgery and 79 pounds lighter
You look great. All of your hard work is paying off nicely.

Losing too much too fast
I had surgery on July 22 as well. I have lost 17 pounds as of July 29. Pre-op is not worth discussing, as I gained instead of lost and was on a one day clear liquid diet the day prior to surgery for a loss of 7 pounds. Which I gained back through the IV fluids. Ive read of others losing as much in the first couple of weeks and don't believe it's anything to be concerned over however as others have stated if your not sure call your surgeon and ask.

Overwhelmed and want to cry......
I had surgery on July 22 and I awoke to horrible gas pain in the location you mentioned, upper left chest and side. I felt as if a Mac truck had hit me. In the hospital they gave me pepcid complete via IV. Once I was home I took Gas X chewables a couple of times and I'm to take a pepcid complete chewable twice a day as prescribed by surgeon. The Gas X and pepcid complete have helped tremendously but the pain only lasted for a day or two. I really hope you feel better soon. Oh, mint tea as mentioned above is wonderful as well as peppermint tea.

Tired!
I too like Mio, but I have not tried it since surgery. Other options I would suggest are flavored waters such as Fruit 2 O or Propel, they help immensely. I am on the last 2 days of full liquids and I don't think I would have made it drinking plan water only.

My Gastric Sleeve Story
It really is hard to get your mindset ready for this change. I had surgery on July 22, and this week I'm on full liquids and next week is pureed foods then on to soft foods. I'm not hungry or having hunger pains, but my head is telling me that I want this or that because I'm thinking about it or see it on TV. The moment passes, but it is hard dealing with the differences between the mind and the stomach. The only thing I can say is we have to focus on the real reason we chose to do this...our health and a longer life cycle to see our children grow up!

Recliner or couch?
I've been home since Saturday evening and have stayed in my recliner. I had my drain tube removed today and was able to take a nap in bed with about 4 pillows. It took a minute for me to get comfortable, but I got a couple of hours of sleep. Good luck!

Well, you see what had happened was...
Hi from one eastern NC girl to another, you'll do fabulous on your day of surgery and after. I had my VSG last Friday and am doing much better than I expected. My prayers and good wishes are with you.

Post-op appointment today
Congratulations. I had my drain removed today as well. It is a great relief to have it out. Unlike you though I have another week on liquids before moving to pureed foods and then finally soft foods. Having the drain removed was the weirdest thing! It hurt just for a second and then it was just weird.

Ready or Not ~Today is the Day UPDATE
Hello all. I made it through the surgery and now I'm on my to recovery and losing :-) . Thanks for all of your well wishes. I feel as though a really large truck has run over me, backed up and then run over me again. I don't really have a lot of pain, just a lot of soreness. The puncture sites are getting very itchy. Are we allowed to apply ointment of any kind? That was the one question I forgot to ask my surgeon about. The hospital staff were great. Surgery was supposed to start at 12:45 pm, however there was some issue or another and I did not go into OR until about 3pm. Next thing I remember it was almost 8 pm and I was waking up in my room. My husband and son spent the night with (hospital had a sleep sofa, that was unexpected but cool). The contrast die for the leak test was totally gross. I could not wait to get some Water, ice chips and a tooth brush. Ii was discharged around 2:30pm. Now its time for a nap :-) .

Oh Lord, Surgery Date has Changed Again!
I was orginially scheduled for surgery on August 2 then it was changed to August 5. So I received a call from the surgeon's office this morning, and it has been changed yet again. This time I was presented with 2 options, the first being next Friday, July 22 and August 19. Well August 19 is absolutely out of the question. I would need to push back to the October, if that was the case. So, I will be having my surgery at 12:45 pm on July 22. Oh lord, am I really ready for this? So, my initial dilemma has been solved, which was my husband being out-of-town. He is going to adjust his schedule. So my next dilemma is work and telling my boss that I will be out of office starting next Friday. I had planned to be out of the office for two weeks after surgery in August and then work from home the next week or so. At least now I will be able to return to work sooner, mid-August, so that is actually a good thing. But am I ready?

Bra Question
Thanks, I have been looking at the Enell sports bra, but at this point, it is pointless to buy one in my current size. I'm going to buy one later as my weight stablizes a bit after surgery. Those that have traveled this road, state that will come off rather quickly, so for the cost of the Enell, it is best for me to wait on that purchase.

Bra size
That is one of the main areas I am looking forward to losing weight...I'll be happy to land back at 38C .

Bra Question
Thanks everyone, your answers so far have been very helpful. The thought of walking the hospital floor without one has absolutely no appeal I will be sure to take my two choices with me.
