  2. My suggestion to you is to tell the anestheologist that you get sick after anesthesia and he will " break out the big guns" for anesthesia (so I've heard it said).... The anesthesia is what made me so sick.... But they tried so hard to control my nausea..... What got me was the gas pain.... Nothing took that away!!!!!! But I kept on my little bell asking cuz the pain meds were the only thing that would make me forget enough to sleep.... As for the nausea when you start your drinking phases, I've had maybe one bout and that's it.... The first few days was hard to get it all in even though I wanted it so bad cuz I went 2 days without even a mere ice chip in my mouth and was so dry I couldn't stand it .... My lips were sticking to my teeth... It was miserable.... So when they brought me the liquids, I was ready!!!! I couldn't take much in though.... But was heavenly what I could take in..... Just be prepared..... And be prepared to walk... Walk.... Walk.....and sit up in recliner... Etc.... Eventhough you may just want to crawl in bed...... Every one is different so you may have no problems at all..... Just 2-3 days of hell will be well worth the end result.... Just honker down and suffer through and then it will be ok
  3. I had my surgery on Monday in Dallas with Dr. Kim. I have been doing the Clear liquids and was finally able to get down some Syntrax nectar (which I went and bought a lot of yesterday), and some NSA carnation instant Breakfast. And now today I am feeling hungry. My stomach is actually growling. I have gotten in 64 oz of Fluid today and 50 gr of Protein. I have been taking my gas x and my prilosec. My calorie count has been low though around 400-500. Is this normal? I feel like it's too soon to feel hungry. I am suppose to be on this phase until Tuesday. I had a hard surgery day and post op day one.....dry heaves and the pain was the worst I had EVER felt. I stated feeling normal yesterday and now today my stomach is growling and I feel hungary. Anyone with suggestions? I want to know if anyone else has experienced this? I REALLY want to be one of those people who say that they never really feel hungry anymore (aside from head hunger).........

    Pre-Op liquid diet

I am on the 10th day of my liquid diet and believe me I am counting the days. It hasn't been too bad, except Ive been out of town working. Being away from home and the fridge and the pantry I think has helped me. I do however have some weak moments and I find myself bargaining with myself. I have not cheated at all except I had a bit extra chicken broth one day. In actuality, it makes me feel a sense of power....like I am in control instead of the food, and it kinda makes me feel like if I can do this, then I can make it all the way. I am on 4-5 shakes a day (depending on if I use FF milk or not), diet gree tea, propel zero, SF popsicles (get the Blue Bell....they are the best), and SF Jello, and 8 oz of low sodium chicken broth ONLY, crystal light, Water, and only one cup of tea or coffee no sugar or cream. I have my surgery on monday and will be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery, of course it wont be as strict as it is right now, but I have come to the conclusion that this is how I eat right now and it will be a while until I can have something else. When I am home, I sit down at the table with my family and I make my shake, broth, jello, and propel and I eat/drink with them. I even cooked supper one night and it looked and smelled good, but I didn't cheat...... The liquid diet scared me more than the actual surgery itself, because it just sounds so unreasonable to go that long without real food.....Once you start into it, it won't be so bad, I drank a lot of diet green tea the first couple of days....now I'm trying to steer clear of the caffine so I won't have withdrawals in the hospital and make my pain after surgery even worse. Good Luck, I hope this helps

    my story

I have PCOS too and am getting sleeved on the 27th. I was wondering how someone with PCOS progresses with their weight loss. Is it slower? .....I would like to know some stats......
  6. OK, so I have my surgery on the 27th and am already on the liquid diet for the past 4 days. I had my pre-op this last Tuesday and had the blood work and the chest xray etc..... I got a phone call today from the surgeons office saying that I had a spot on my lung from the chest xray and that he wants some more test done to determine if the spot is just a scar or if it is something more serious. You know how down I felt at that moment to think that I was not going to be able to have the surgery??? After Ive already paid for it.....It was a low moment.....anyway, I alreay knew that I had a spot on my lung and my primary said that it was probably a scar but had never done a work up on it. So here I am, 10 days away from surgery and I have to go get a CT scan w/contrast of my chest STAT.....Luckily, I work for a hospital and already got it done and already have the results too.....IT'S JUST A SCAR!!!! YEY!!!! So the surgery is still on....... But, they said that I had a small hiatal hernia and gall stones. I know the surgeon will repair the hernia. Does anyone know if the gall bladder will be removed if there is proof that you have gallstones????

    Food Funeral

I had many funerals....olive garden, texas roadhouse, and then the night before my liquid diet I went to Babes ( best chicken fried steak anywhere). I chose to go places that I would not be able to eat for a long, long time or ever....like Pasta and fried food. So, to answer your question, I think its normal. This is a lifestyle that we have grown VERY accustomed to and your about to leave that behind. I feel like I will miss food right now, but I know that when the weight starts coming off, I wont miss it that much. I would much rather feel thin and be healthy than to eat chicken fried steak I started my liquid diet yesterday. So far, so good. I am hungry though, but I will make it. Keep us informed.... Good luck!!!
  8. I am on the 27th too. I am on the liquid diet too which I am struggling with. I work nights as a sleep tech (doing sleep studies) and some days I am awake for almost 24 hours straight and to try to divide 5 shakes up over that long of a period is hard.....I will manage though. Good luck to you!!!!

    SWEATING all the time.....

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I don't feel so hopeless about it......
  11. I am out of town and I go for my pre-op on the 14th at the hospital and then to the "bariatric university" VSG class right after the hospital. I havent received my pre op diet yet. The pre-op liquid diet is stessing me out more than the surgery itself. I will be starting the liquid diet on the same day too. They told me to just go buy a few ready to drink cans but to make sure they were low in carbs just to use for that day and then I will be picking up the liquid diet that they prefer when I get there. I am so nervous!!!!!! and Exicited!!!!!!!
  12. I am getting sleeved on June 27th.....Can someone tell me if I will quit sweating all the time. I have low thyroid and high prolactin levels. I also have PCOS. Of course, I live in Texas and the temp here is triple digits everyday, but this is ridiculous..... even in 72 degree air conditioned house I am dripping. Can anyone out there relate?????? I am hoping that after the surgery, i will get rid of the excess ghrelin and it will go away.....
  13. I am having my surgery with Dr. Kim on the June 27th.....SO NERVOUS!!!!

    My Friend Mr. CPAP

swift FX is a great mask. To say the least, I have used EVERY mask on the market since I have access to them all. The one that I am stuck on right now is the comfort fusion. I also use a chin strap so that my mouth will not open and defeat the whole purpose of the CPAP.

    My Friend Mr. CPAP

Hello, I am new to this site. I will be having my surgery in March as soon as I get the financing (which will be no problem with the help of my mother). I am also a Registered Sleep Technician....meaning that I do the actual sleep studies. I have done SO many sleep studies on patients trying to get approved for surgery. To answer some of your questions: when you lose weight more than likely you hit a certain weight you will not need the machine any more unless you have some structural abnormalities in your airway. Yes you will be using the machine in recovery (so I have heard time and time again). As for the perfume smell....the air is filtered so when you take the mask off...you immediately smell the smells in your house so your house must smell sweet. As for the change in pressure while you are losing weight.... you need to keep in close contact with your DME company (the ones who set you up with your machine) and in turn they will stay in close contact with your doctor because all changes in pressures are a prescription from your doctor only. Me personally, I am on an auto set....which automatically titrates me to the pressure i need. It is not as benificial as the regular CPAP or BiPAP because there are some respiratory events that it may miss, but it is a lot more comfortable and seems to make a lot of sense when you are losing a lot of weight quickly. I would suggest you ask your doctor about getting an auto-CPAP. I love mine and wear it all the time. Will not leave home without it. Then again, I know the risks that are involved when you do not use the machine and you really need to....mostly cardiovascular.....
