KS611 got a reaction from ShrinkingMeme in Anyone else having gastric bypass June 28th?
I had the lapband from 2011 to 2013. Now having gastric bypass on June16th. My band is already out but the dr is still calling it a revision. I have started my preop diet. On week two but this week is only 3 shakes a day and liquids. I'm 5 days away from surgery!

KS611 reacted to meyouus in Yummy Protein DRINK! Not shake.
Hi. I stopped using Protein Shakes because my husband works third shift and sleeps till 4:00pm and I didn't want to wake him by making shakes in my Magic Bullet. I used to take Protein Shots (the liquid in tube) but stopped. I didn't have a clue what to do, until I found this Protein Drink on pinterest. And I LOVE it!
I'm a Decaf coffee drinker, hot and/or iced. So, I found that mixing a cup of cold coffee, Creamer, Equal and a scoop of vanilla Protein powder and shake real hard, makes a great, refreshing glass of iced vanilla coffee! BAM! I found something pleasing to drink (3 times a day) Also, since it's freakin HOT outside, my ice melts real quick so I poured decaf into an ice tray to make coffee ice cubes so when it melts, it just adds to the flavor.
Give it a try if you like iced coffee. VANILLA iced coffee!

My back only hurts when I drink..........too much tequila.
I wake up the next morning with the craziest pains and bruises but a big old grin on my face.
Could be worse.....at least you don't wake up with strange and unexplained itches and rashes when you drink. That would be gross.
Sorry, I couldn't have been of more help.

We have the same weight stats and are surgery twins yay! My plan skips the pureed food stage. I go from 2 weeks clear and full liquids right into reintroducing food at my own pace.

I wish my body would hear what I'm telling it, too...it wants something I can CHEW. The smell of the Protein shakes is awful to me right now, I just want regular food. My surgery was on the 21st, so I've had a couple of bites of refried Beans and a bit of chicken. My stomach tolerated them well, but those 2 bites of Beans almost filled me up. It IS weird how our bodies are reacting to what we did to them, isn't it?

The pizza was not as amazing as you might think! I promise lol. Ate a piece the size of a pinky nail and i was over it. I consider myself lucky that my surgeon's recommendations are less strict than others, but honestly I'm mostly eating Protein shakes and nibbling on a cheestick. Nothing too exciting. I will say it is easy to see what is tolerable and what isn't. All I have to do is take a teeny bite and if it feels like a rock going down, I immediately stop. If I don't feel anything I know I'm good to go. Haven't had any nausea/vomiting/stomach pain etc. and I've tried a bunch of random soft foods.

I haven't had the mood swings but I'm dreading them...I'm 51 and menopausal, so I'm sure mine will be doozies!
I've been feeling good, I've advanced myself to some foods that aren't on my diet yet, but just doing full liquids was killing me. I've had some refried Beans (HEAVEN!!), and yesterday I had a bite or 2 of chicken salad my husband was eating. As long as I go slow, take small bites and chew well, everything is fine. On the down side, I took my allergy meds a couple of nights ago right before bed, and not thinking, threw down about 8 oz of Water in a few big gulps. OMG. The pain was horrific, and it all came right back up. I have been a much more careful sipper since then
I'm thinner, too, down 16 as of today. That's so encouraging for me, I didn't have to do any pre-op diet so my surgery weight was my highest weight. Losing 16 has been amazing, I truly feel lighter already.
Hoping today is another good day...we're going to buy a new car! And our son comes home today from a weekend back at college with his buddies. Tomorrow will be a challenge, I'm sure, all the BBQs and food, but I'll stick with my oatmeal and know that if I do, that scale will move even more. Happy 4th, everyone!

June 27th surgery here. I was allowed to start full liquids today but the plain yogurt I had did not agree with me one bit. I've also been on my period so I was a cranky uncomfortable mess. On the plus side I finally popped today so hopefully I'll be a little less uncomfortable. I just want to be able to walk without feeling like I'm doing the "pregnant waddle"

Oh, those heparin shots! I had 3 when I was in the hospital, the bruises are HUGE! I also had 3 IVs infiltrate, so I have huge bruises from those because of the heparin. I feel a LOT better than I look!!

Hi everyone. Well I can't believe I will be day 9 tomorrow! Have been able to get in liquids and Protein in from the start. Have not had any changes to my taste buds and have lost 8 lbs. I am still swollen and have a huge bruise on my lower right stomach that had me little worried, but doctor said it was likely from the blood thinner shot they gave me in the hospital before they discharged me.
Today I had some Tomato Soup and it filled me up quickly. Had to stop after a few oz. Was so full and stayed that way for 3 hrs. Took me a minute to realize I needed to stop eating. Good lesson to pay attention to my body.
    That is my update!

I am 4 days post op. I have very little pain. Had to do the dye test 3 times so three times the dye which made me very sick. At first cold hurt but it's getting easier to get down. Popcicles are my friend right now. It seems to be the only thing that does not hurt going down. It's getting easier and I know day by day it will only get easier. I have lost 20 lbs since I started my pre op diet and through surgery. Good luck to you all.

Got sleeved on Monday (6/27) and also had a hiatal hernia repair. It gets a little better each day. Monday was rough--the anesthesia and the morphine didn't agree with me which resulted in me throwing up and dry heaving several times on Monday which was SO painful. I've been in and out of the regret stage, wondering why I did this to myself. But it gets a little better everyday. The pain from the gas they used during surgery that was trapped was very painful but it is slowly going away. I'm sure once things get more "normal" and results start to show and I can transition to soft foods it will continue to get better each day. Starting back on chewable vitamins and my anxiety med today (which is a capsule that can't be crushed or opened so I was instructed to continue to take it normally). I'm nervous about introducing non-liquids like the pills.

Hey guys. I had Surgery yesterday morning and everything went extremely well. I wasn't nauseous so that was a plus. I didn't get discharged around 4pm today. I had an hour ride home and my friend drove me home. The car ride home sucked. I'm still really sore but other than that I'm doing great!!

You are going to do great and smart to get that massage in tonight. Remember what your surgeon told you - walk, sip and sit up. IV will make you pee a lot so every time you get up to pee walk, then pee again before you get back in bed as then they will be taking vitals. You will have to get your rest when you can. Can't wait to welcome you back here with all your good news. Don't forget we want to hear everything! Kick butt tomorrow. xo

My surgery is tomorrow. I check in at 5:30 a.m. for 7:30 a.m. surgery time. Trying not to panic and instead focus on why I made the decision to do this. I'm half packed for the hospital, and am looking forward to my 80 min massage tonight at 7:30!! Then going home, taking a shower, finishing the packing, and going to bed. Tomorrow starts a new life, right?

I had my surgery on June 21. First postop day was rough. I was nauseous and nothing sat right. I basically drank Water for the first couple of days. Everything tasted terrible those first days home. My tongue was coated with gunk--ugh--and I think that contributed. Pain was tough at first but now mostly just twinges. My biggest battle is trying to get all my pills down. I have to crush them based on dr instructions and I take a few things. That has been a real challenge. Overall though my energy is better and I can eat a bigger variety of things than before--broth is acceptable again lol, plus teas, Water, and I actually don't mind the Protein Shakes. They always make my stomach feel full and almost soothed. Trying to get all my walking in each day. I think I am down about 20 pounds total but my scale is a real pain and keeps giving me different numbers (like get on it three times in a row and come up with weights with differences of five pounds or more...ridiculous). Good luck to those just starting!

Had my sleeve on the 27th. Stuck to the pre op diet too the t even though I really wanted some real food. Ended up losing 25 lbs in the 2 weeks before surgery. Surgery only took 45 mins! Afterward there was a little pain but not too much. I was up walking the halls of the hospital within hours. I was released from the hospital yesterday and it was good to be home. Have been walking alot and drinking my Water. Found that room temp water will go down alot easier than cold. I second the idea of sleeping in a recliner for a couple of days. My pain has controlled by only Tylenol since I was in the hospital. Found some liquid Tylenol at CVS where I take 30mls every 6 hours. Good luck to everybody out there.

Got to leave hospital about 8am today. Came back to hotel. Nurses and doctor have seen me three times today. Finishing last iv. Have dye test and xray tomorrow. Not looking forward to drinking dye. If all good I'll fly home Thursday. I hace been tryingvall day to get dowm 5 oz of Water. I am not hungry at all. Cold seems to hurt worse but they said to drink cold. Helps with swelling. I had 4 others in my group. A couple of them did not follow diet and they seemed to be really sick after surgery. Myself and couple others followed diet and we have had no trouble. My advice follow diet. Makes recovery easier. Good luck to all
