    July Bandsters Unite! LOL

I was banded on july 15. what do u mean u can easy anything u want? Are u eating solids? U should just be getting off full liquids and moving to pureed foods. Did your doctor not educate u that until your first fill you are healing and thats why u eat liquids... I have lost 21 pounds since my surgery.... I have followed my diet and I have restriction... U might not have restriction because u have already stretched your pouch out. If ur dr did not give u guidelines, I suggest u go to lapband.com and follow theirs. The band is a lifetime commitment to change your relationship with food. U have to make the commitment and use the band as a tool for the journey.

    July Bandsters Unite! LOL

So far, I've only told my husband, my parents, my sister and I'm telling my brother this week. They all love me and have seen me struggle my whole life with being overweight and they are very very supportive. I've told a couple people at work, but only bc I was hoping they could be banded along with me. Sadly, their insurance doesn't cover it and they can't afford to pay out of pocket(which i can't either, but luckily my insurance covers 100%) I'm worried about the people that are skinny and have never really had to deal with weight issues and the people that have at some point in their life been overweight and eventually lost the weight(whether it be by dieting and excercise or diet pills) I myself know I am not taking the easy way out(that was made even more clear in my 1st nutrition appt), but I know there is a certain stipulation by society that weight loss surgery is an "easy way out". I just feel I have dealt with criticism my whole life about being overweight and now I'm afraid I will get criticism for doing something about it. I have no intentions to lie about it, but I have no intentions of posting it on my twitter either...

I'm actually having it done in Norman, OK by Dr Ronnie Keith. I chose the plication because A: It allows for faster results (comparable to bypass) without any cutting or rerouting and B: it put my mind at ease about the lap band slipping bc the way he does it is the Dr secures the band in place with a "flap" of tissue from my stomach. http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/content/81/10_Suppl/S18/F1.expansion.html - here is how he is going to secure it.. this doesn't have the plication, but you get the idea... I have researched a lot on the plication and it doesn't seem to add any more risk than there is with just the lapband so I figured what the heck. It's covered by my insurance bc my Dr just includes it in the cost of the Lap Band. So I would ask them at the Dr how they charge the insurance... maybe they charge them that way to so it will still be covered. Is anyone struggling with telling people about the surgery?

oh and how my dr is going to do it where he is going to pull a piece of the stomach and secure the band into place so it will have a lower risk of slipping.

http://www.fortworthlapband.com/BandedPlication.aspx This can explain it better than I can. It allows for more weightloss initially with the band as a tool to support you long term.. It's completely reversible and It's new in the US, but has very good results.
