    Day of surgery

My day of surgery was pretty common, I'm guessing. My mom came to town for my surgery (I'm not married and my boyfriend's deployed) and she took me to the hospital. I was sooo scared, not regretting anything, really, just scared about the anaesthesia (I'm almost positive I spelled that wrong). I had this terrible, irrational fear that it either wouldn't work for me or I would wake up in the middle of surgery or something horrendous like that. Anyway, they reassured me that it was almost impossible for that to happen, so that made me feel better. I was still tearing up as they wheeled me into the surgery room. The people were all nice and spoke to me, and then all of a sudden, I was waking up and they were rolling me into my room. I don't even remember being knocked out! All of a sudden it was just over! Best blessing I could have had. Anyway, the first time I tried to get up and walk, I felt really nauseous, but it got better from there. I wasn't nauseous any other time in the hospital, and my incisions only hurt a little - more like soreness. The only down side? I had to pee CONSTANTLY!!! Like every hour on the hour I was ringing my nurse's buzzer to ask for help getting unhooked from all my cords so I could use the bathroom. It was absolutely ridiculous. But I guess it was just from all the IV fluids, so no worries. I had some juice and Water the next day, they did a really quick (but terrible tasting) leak test, and I went home that evening! It was honestly the quickest, easiest thing ever. After I got home, my incisions got really sore and I couldn't sleep on my stomach, which is how I always sleep, so that was difficult. A couple sleepless nights initially. Also, the liquid hydrocodone they gave me gave me reeeaallly bad dreams, so as soon as I felt like I didn't need it anymore, I went off of it and went to Tylenol instead. Good choice! So that's my story! Not very interesting...but hope it helped somewhat! Good luck on your journies!
  3. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for what you're going through - I know how bad I feel when the scale doesn't move and I feel like I'm doing all the right things. I know you've probably already thought of this, but have you measured yourself? Maybe you've been gaining lean muscle all this time, and of course muscle weighs more than fat. Are your clothes fitting differently? I didn't believe people that I could fit into my clothes better but not see anything on the scale until it happened to me...it's true! Just hang in there and know that we are all behind you 100% and thinking of you!
  4. I was really tired early out too. It seemed like all I did was sip and sleep (Instead of R&R, it's S&S haha). So don't feel bad about that. I could barely get in the recommended amount of liquids, and I'm sure some days I didn't. But it's just important to stay hydrated if you can!

    I got the call!

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you! Getting approved takes a lot of hard work and you should be proud of yourself!
  6. Yaaay! I am so happy for you! Way to go!
  7. My tummy didn't like the protein shakes during my pre-op diet either, AT ALL! They did not go down easily. Do you have to drink a certain kind, or are you free to choose the kind you like? I have finally found a kind that tastes good to me - Pure Protein. You can get powders and cans of it to drink. The chocolate is really good. I got it at HyVee and also at a whole foods store. I'm sorry it's going rough for you - hang in there, it will get better!
  8. I only had a TINY bit if nausea the first time I got up to try and walk. I didn't really have any gas pain at all, and the only other pain I had was incision pain, which was really just very sore, not like excruciating pain. It was mostly when I rolled over on my side or got up and down. Lying down was just fine. Since coming home from the hospital, I've only been nauseous twice, and it was because I drank too fast, so my bad! I thought the healing process was really quite quick and painless! Just those darn incisions being sore, but that's about it. Now I'm two and a half weeks out and I barely notice my incisions anymore. It's almost like I didn't have surgery! Good luck to you!

    gurgleing stomach

I bet it's gas, too - as long as it's trying to get out of your body, you're in good shape! My tummy also gurgles whenever I get close to "full" - that might be just some liquids for you right now, since your stomach is still swollen and healing!
  10. First of all, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for everything that you're going through! How awful to be in such a cool place and to feel so down and out! I am hoping that you feel a lot better soon. As for me, I don't have much good advice because I'm only about two weeks out, but I just wanted to let you know that I hit a stall in WEEK 2!! I couldn't believe it, but the scale didn't budge for daaaaays. I was so frustrated, but it was TOM and eventually the scale moved again. Also, I wanted to share that someone recently suggested "shocking" your body back into weight loss by eating a few hundred more calories than you're used to, then cutting it back down immediately the next day. Maybe that might work to trigger your metabolism again? Thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Tired!

Hahaha your post made me smile, because I'm starting to feel the exact same way! I really liked how you listed all the positives too, though. You are going to get through this "icky" phase just fine. And don't forget, broth or other thinner soups count toward liquid intake, too. Sometimes when I can't stand the nasty sweetness of Crystal Lite anymore, I eat some chicken broth or something. It helps me!
  12. Thanks for the post and compliment! I am making great progress and healing swiftly :) Hope you're having a good time of it as well!!

  13. Hi! I wanted to chime in with everyone else and encourage you NOT to cancel your surgery - you have worked so hard for this, and you deserve to do it for yourself! I moved literally one week after I was sleeved. I had packed most everything up beforehand and, as another poster suggested, was basically living out of a suitcase. I realize I'm single, and this might be harder if you have a family, but family just means there will also be more people to help you! I hired movers and they did all the hard work; I just told them where to put everything. I don't regret it at all, although I will admit I was a little stressed out about everything, as I'm sure you are, too! I just wanted you to hear another version of how it's totally doable, so to echo everyone else, GO FOR IT! I will keep you in my thoughts!
  14. I know how you feel - I'm in the same boat! Can you have pudding or yogurt at all? Maybe if it's thinned a little? Or what about cinnamon cream of wheat thinned with milk? My doc said I'm on semi-liquid, so I can also have like really thin mashed potatoes, although I've been avoiding that because of the starch/carbs. Hmm...different kinds of juices? I hear you - I'm getting so tired of the liquids, and it's only been about a week!

    What to say to....

Yeah, I would say the same thing - make sure you thank them and say that you appreciate their concern/input, but that you're pretty resolved and even looking forward to it! It's nobody else's business, and five minutes later, they'll have something else to think about so it won't even matter. People like that are frustrating, but also usually pretty easily preoccupied. They'll find something else to obsess over quickly.
