  1. I seem to remember being able to bend over and pick things up very early on, provided I used the other hand to sort of hold my stomach in place. But then my situation is different to yours and I had my husband on hand to help out as needed. Please accept as much help as you can get in the early days. It's much easier to say thanks, I'm feeling good enough to do this myself now, than to have to chase around for help when you are immediately post op.

    fever..

Or it could be purely coincidental and you have picked up a cold or the flu. Best wishes.

    Swimmers? Im nervous...

My advice, just do it. Once you are there you will quickly realise that no one else cares about you or how quickly you are swimming. Be courteous and look for a slower lap lane, give way to faster swimmers at the ends of laps, but don't let anyone else steal your dreams!

    lawn mower

Great NSV but next time wear proper footwear, please. The risk to your feet when mowing is really large and getting hurt would slow your brilliant progress right down. (Sorry, I work in OHS, couldn't help myself.)

    first hot flash?

Power surges! 49 and thought I was just about finished with menopause but in the past couple of weeks I've started with night flushes - already had to wake hubby so I could change the sheets one night. It's just a fact of life in being a woman. Fortunately there are medical options out there to help us through it.
  6. At this stage you just have to hang tough. It usually takes several fills to reach your green zone. Remember, this is not a sprint, it's a marathon that is going to take the rest of your life - and your life will be longer, happier and healthier because of your commitment to this journey.

    Any swimmers out there?

I mix my cardio up with walking, dancing, cycling and swimming so that I don't get bored and always have options, regardless of the season or weather. Friday is typically my swimming day and I have built up to one and a half kilometres in about 50 minutes. Hoping to up it to a full two kilometres soon. I find it best to put on my goggles and my underwater MP3 player and just let the music carry me. Enjoy.

    How long?

Sounds like you and your band have a really good relationship right now so I would be surprised if your medical team would even give you another fill at this stage. You are losing weight, feeling restriction and listening to your soft stop that tells you when you have eaten enough. Adding more fill at this time would be counter-productive and lead to you being overfilled and then experiencing stuck episodes and having to get an unfill. Congratulations and keep on working with your band.

    yes...another fabulous question

Stress will do it for me! For example, a couple of hours ago I tried to eat my atlantic salmon and tossed salad for lunch but immediately after my break, I had a meeting which was causing me some concern. Couldn't eat. But now, after the meeting, sorted a few issues out and no problems, my belated lunch is tasting just great and going down well.

    First starting to exercise

Good on you for getting a headstart! You will be successful in the long term if you find exercises that you enjoy so much that you look forward to them. Try to find a number of activities so that you don't end up getting bored. Two years out I cycle two to four times a week, walk several mornings, dance up to two times a week and swim once a week. Cycling and dancing are both social activities but with different groups of friends. Walking is either alone or with my husband so a good time for us together. Swimming is a solitary activity but I plug in my underwater MP3 player and just go for about 50 minutes. When exercise feels like work, it is much harder to get started and to keep going. Best of luck
  11. From the description of your symptoms, I would already be at the ER. Take care of yourself.

when can I get back to work

And it depends on the type of work that you do. If you are a desk jockey and can take breaks as you need, then you might be ok to go back after three days.Personally I would not recommend it as it always takes me a week to recover from a general anesthetic. Perhaps you could schedule your surgery adjacent to a weekend or public holiday to give yourself the longest break possible.

    350lbs

The only reason you can't do this is if you stop trying. You've got a very busy life with four young kids but they should be even more motivation for you to make the time to put your health first so you can be there for them in the long time. Commit to yourself, commit to your family. You can do this.

    Form 111kgs downt to 100kgs

Congratulations, that was one of my first goals as well, although I did start at 149kg. Make sure that you Celebrate your achievement and reward yourself with a non-food reward. Mine was a new gold watch.
  15. My surgeon said the shoulder pain was referred pain from the work done inside me. It may not feel like it now, but it will pass in time. One day you will realise that it isn't hurting any more.

    CHEATER!

It's great that you are coming to this site for support. The pre-op diet is tough but necessary. The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver in preparation for your surgery. The liver has to be moved to place your band and a large, fatty liver is very difficult to manipulate. So, hang tough but know that it is temporary, necessary and worthwhile.
  17. I guess it's gender-specific only in that most men don't wear bras! Otherwise, sounds perfectly normal to me, too.

    Can I Feel My Band?

What you are feeling below your sternum will be your port. Your band is around your stomach and you cannot feel it.

my band baby is here :)

Congratulations! May he bring you a lifetime of love and joy.

I had to have my band removed today

Sorry to hear you have had such a rough time of it. When were you actually banded? Last month (as per your profile) or 10 years ago, as per your post above? If it was the former, it seems a very quick turnaround and must be extremely disappointing for you. If it was the latter, then you did extremely well to last so long! Good on you for pointing out that your situation is extremely rare and that others should not be concerned about experiencing the same results. Best wishes for your future weight loss journey, whatever road you take!

Port removal and still having complications

Demand a second opinion. Don't ask, don't suggest. DEMAND! This is your body, your life and it sounds to me as though you are being screwed around.

    HELP explain a fill

It sounds as though you have been banded without proper education from your surgical team! That is really disappointing and frustrating for you. At a week and a half post op, I was still on liquids, not even mushies. And I didn't get my first fill until six weeks post-op. I suggest that you draw up a list of questions before your appointment and insist that your dr answer them all to your satisfaction before you leave. A fill adds saline to your band and can be removed if you get too tight. You can eat like a normal person with a band but you definitely need to get more information to help you along this journey. Take advantage of the offers of help you have been given here and demand information from your medical team. It is NEVER too late to learn more about living with your band.

    First cold!!

    Hope you get better soon.
  25. My port has tilted (not flipped) from time to time. I have felt it sort of pop back into place. The closest thing I can describe it as is like an unborn baby giving a single kick under my ribs. My surgeon has confirmed that it was tilted. He said a tilting port was a possible precursor to a flipped port but so far so good. I don't believe that eating too much would be a cause of a flipped port.
