  2. Once your goal is reached or for those who have met their weight loss objective, how do you plan to Celebrate this major accomplishment in your life. Some may shop for new clothes, while others might decide to paint the town, and some possibly may rejoice at home with family. What are your plans to commemorate your success?

    Who did you tell??

Gusso, I told my wife, daughters, son, brother, and a few of my friends. Please check the forum "weight loss surgery and friends", there are some interesting reply's. As you will see, not everyone understands what you will go through. Be very careful about posting it on facebook, personally I WOULD NOT. Hey good luck and be well, Lash
  4. From a dude point of view, I did not know they put in catheters for sleevers. Can someone tell my why? Also if the surgery is done at the upper abdomen area why shave the ta ta. Is this just a gal thing or is this something I can discus in the man cave (lol). Lash
  5. BTW, I plan to travel to Miami and the Keys. Lash
  6. KinkySlinky, (cool name), Men are very competitive, it's in our DNA. From pee wee sports as little boys to big time sports such as football to NASCAR. It's said only men start wars. That's something just in the male species, there even something the psych heads call penis envy (that's heavy). I think when it comes to ones health, then being competitive should be thrown out the window. But being jealous, mean, and hateful has no gender. I find it most interesting in which more and more people are deciding to keep their surgery private because of ridiculous family, friends, and coworkers making cruel and insulting remarks. Yet the most important matter is to progress both physically and mentally meet our goal toward excellent health. Lash
  7. I am perplexed about a few of my close friends and my current weight loss. This is my item. First I had WLS approx. 2 months ago. The weight loss has been almost a text model. Over 50 lbs. in 60 days, that’s in the gym 5 times per weeks and following a strict diet diagram. I have gone from 52 inch waist to 42 waist and still losing. Just about all of illnesses are gone or greatly reduced. Before surgery I use to hear I was overweight, too big, and how did I let myself get that way. Now that I am in a serious weight loss mode, I hear from the same people I am losing weight too fast, my stomach is still big and I will have flabby skin. Are these people my friends, I am confused. Is this a common problem rapid weight loss? Comments and opinions please. Lash
  8. To Be Thin 2011, We want our friends to understand us, to lift us up when we are down. Real friends don't put their fellow partners below them. It is a bit painful when the people you respect the most, don't want to see you move forward. My four basic elements of friendship are understanding, communication, satisfaction, and security. If any of the elements are missing then the friendship is in trouble. We are singing the same song, lets leave the nay sayers to their nasty selves. We want to be with be people who are positive. Going though WLS is traumatic within itself, and having to deal with people who are continuously putting others down is just so unnecessary and a complete waste of our time. After some soul searching, I have decided to separate myself from the people who refuse to respect my decisions concerning my health and well being. I never felt I would have to this, a few of these folks I known for over twenty years. But this is something I should have done long before the sleeve. Now it's Friday and I am ready for the weekend. Take care and be well, Lash

    Older Sleevers

Go with it, i was told at time there was an age limit on WLS, now there isn't. Consider your health risk versus gain. You be glad you did, as I did. I am Fifty Plus Lash

    Things people say...

MJB, I have posted two items on this subject. Usually, I excuse the elderly who are very much set in their ways. Depending how old they are. Please read "Friends and weight loss" on this forum and as far as "easy way out" see item below: Lash ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One member asked the question: Is sleeve surgery “taking the easy way out”? This question really got my juices flowing and thinking. For all of us who endured the agony and anguish of bariatric surgery, we recognize there is nothing easy about this most important matter. Let see, how easy this is? 25 intelligent reasons for making our choice. 1. Exercising and working out with little or no results (life long) 2. Yo-yo dieting with little or no results (life long) 3. Heart disease 4. Respiratory problems 5. Stroke 6. High blood pressure 7. Elevated cholesterol 8. Diabetes 9. sleep disorders 10. Gout 11. Discrimination (on the job, in public, airline seats, etc) 12. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) 13. Amenorrhea - absence of menstrual bleeding (gals) 14. Impotence (guys) 15. Cancer 16. Psychological problems 17. Kidney disease 18. Liver disorders 19. Economic factors (cost of associated illnesses, food, clothes etc) 20. Insurance issues 21. Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint) 22. Social problems – (family, friends, dating etc) 23 Gallbladder disease 24. Pregnancy complications 25. DEATH The dictionary defines “easy” as: 1. Not hard or difficult; requiring no great labor or effort: 2. Free from pain, discomfort, worry, or care: Our lives have been anything but easy. As always, comments welcome. Lash
  12. Deb, Great advice, I will mention it to them. BTW - I am a dude Thanks Lash
  13. Anything you can mash with a fork and as long as you can tolerate it. Check with your doctor first. Lash
  14. Yes, one is 325 lbs. and the other is always ill.
  15. Like a lot of foods to us sleever's, it a acquired taste. I never heard of the greek stuff until now, some taste better than others. The plan is pretty bad.

    McDonald's Smoothies

How healthy is the Mac smoothie, I was advised it's full of sugar. Here is the skinny on on the cool treat from the golden archers. strawberry banana 22 oz. cup has 330 calories - there are no fresh strawberries and/or bananas, its a syrup what they called a "blend" made with strawberry puree, banana puree, Water, sugar, concentrated apple juice, and other stuff. Does anyone have additional info on the nutritional value from Micky D's smoothie. Lash
  17. Laura, Seems all is well with you, hope you understand what's going on and why folks responded like they did. You are a young smart person, just be careful. Some patients have not been as fortunate when drinking after major surgery. As time goes on, please take care and be well. Lash
  18. I looked into the band and decided on the sleeve. I feel the band was good at one time, the sleeve is now the best of all. My opinion. Lash
  19. Laura23, A few things, thank you for sharing your drinking experience and your history about the surgery. When others like you reveal their feelings on this site. It helps us understand ourselves as we figure out our future in dealing with WLS. Nevertheless, you open the door in your first post, when that door is open for anyone and everyone to comment, criticize, and express disapproval of your actions. You statement in your second post is very interesting; “this is an unavoidable part of my social and professional life”. Drinking is unavoidable; I don’t know about that and completely disagree. Most sleever’s live our lives one day at time. Experimenting with a new lifestyle and yes, most disapprove with you consuming alcohol (no matter how weak and what amount) so soon after your surgery. No one indicated you were an alcoholic; you seem like a party person who enjoys her work and like to drink. And that’s ok, yet on the other hand you just had a major portion of stomach removed and as a consequence that is something to consider. Take care and be well, Lash
  20. In my humble opinion, from a former all night boozer and party dude, long long ago and 60 days out surgery with 50lbs down and 25 to go. Please lay off the alcohol for a while. Be careful and not saying this is you, there is a high amount of addiction swapping in weight loss surgery patients up to 30% one study shows. Take care and be well. Lash

    Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul has been in the news lately for her rapid weight lost (85 lbs. in a few months). Most folks believed she undergone some type of bariatric surgery. Yet she denies it, see article at http://news.softpedia.com/news/Aretha-Franklin-Denies-Getting-Gastric-Bypass-Surgery-189232.shtml. I’ve been a fan of the Soul Singer since I was a teen. And it’s my opinion that what she does with her life is her business and hers alone. Please weight in. Lash
