pureed/mushey food options
On that note, I had picked up some white chicken chili (Hormel) and noticed it was a little too chunky for my soft food stage, so I pureed it. It looked like baby food--but it was so freakin good!

Was Feeling Great...at first =0(
In the meantime you may try to sleep on an incline or in a recliner if you feel acid coming up your throat. Also see if it might work best to take the PPI just before sleeping too. You probably know this as well, but they say not to eat right before bed--drinking is ok.

Staple Question
just my opinion here so take it with a grain of salt.. I really don't think they would risk using non surgical grade staples--my belief is that their cost savings comes more from doing so many procedures each day. I won't restart the debate on that topic here as to what risks that adds--My point is that I think you will be OK on the staples.

Day 5 Report: Gas!
In the meantime, if you get that feeling of too much acid you can probably suppliment a non ppi acid reducer like pepcid etc.

I can eat too much...?
Also when in doubt I have started to puree some foods, then I can get my protein in or whatever. On that note I just had a fabulous White chicken Chili by Hormel--it was very chunky so I pureed it and it was so good. I use the Magic Bullet I got at Wal-Mart to puree foods for me.

I can eat too much...?
no crackers for me, even with the added softness I only got about 2 ounces of that down. I can eat 6 ounces at least with yogurt--its weird when the food doesn't just slide through. Starkist now makes a premade bag of tuna salad in 3 ounce packets which should be just about right. Eventually I will try to add some low carb crackers of some sort to that.

Day 5 Report: Gas!
Sprinkled? I thought it was sustained release and needed to not be crushed. I have been able to swallow them fine myself--but not sure if that makes a difference.

Day 5 Report: Gas!
The gas is normal from my experience, but no hunger. Are you on a PPI as well?

I can eat too much...?
My soft foods and liquids go down very quick too. I tried some tuna salad and bam I felt restriction quick. Got that stuck feeling in the back of my throat and out of instinct I try to wash it down a bit with water--well that all came back up pretty quickly-(gross!). Went back and chopped everything a bit smaller and added more low fat mayo and then I could eat some.

Going Dr Shopping
Most doc's wont go much smaller for risk of Stricture. My doc metioned that he uses a 30 but does not go real tight against it for staple line integrity.

Well Here Goes.....
Welcome from a fellow Texan. You seem to be doing the right steps in the process getting ready and being fully informed going in. Best of luck to you beginning this journey!

jacks home, after surgery
Awesone both of you guys are doing good. I also want to warn you not to do much bending twisting or lifting. I felt so normal that I stopped thinking about caution yesterday and bent down while I was walking to scratch the back of my calf and then pulled up with some sharp pain to my side. It is definately pressure on the internal incision as my external ones are fine and eating is fine. So as a man its tough not to grab the grocery bag or reach over and do something cause you feel good. I am hoping it is just a strain--nothing has herniated at the site yet...

The hardest part ISN'T the food....
Seems to be a theme for those of us around 40 and obese. Lots of time spend self -loathing during every diet failure, every fat joke, every mocking look, etc to harm us mentally as much or more than we did physically. We do need to realize our own value apart from others in order to get past these feelings--the funny thing is in doing that we become more attactive to others. This happens to many of us--at 40 married 20 years with 2 kids and I still can feel all alone in this struggle.

Ugh...
yuck, hang in their buddy. How is the Fluid intake coming?

Tomorrow is the big day!
Woot! Post as soon as you are able and let us know how it is going. Best wishes to you!
-
what a day. I've been approved! !!
The anticipation is the tough part  I am sure going to liquids will be a tough change, but use your motivation and excitement for this process to help keep you on track. I did not have a pre-op, but I have done liquid diets in the past. Once you get past day 3 everything is smoother. Also enjoy the rapid weight loss the liquid diet will bring and just remember this time you won't be gaining it back! Stay positive and realize how this will get you to your goal. If you do struggle use your support systems to help get you back on track. Your gonna rock the sleeve.

Why would you leave the US for surgery?
mmcclure, This is a very old thread. I think you will find that the posters that are still here on this board are here to help you. In fact go look through the regular posters in the main forums (pre and post op and stories) we have a good mix of people who had VSG's here in the US and in Mexico (a few from other countries) you will find them helpful. This is a side forum and a very old thread--please don't judge the community here by this thread. Whatever you decide, good luck to you in your journey. If you need help please ask!
