3 rd week post op
I'm in my 3rd week post-op and not hungry at all. I find myself eating out of habit not hunger. I'm suspecting my Dr. won't give me a fill when I go in the early part of July but just guessing.

Stuck!
Last night I had my first episode of getting something stuck. I ate a small piece of chicken. It may not have been small enough or I ate too fast. I have never had such pain. It wouldn't go up and it wouldn't go down. I had this feeling of panic and was having trouble breathing. I read not to drink anything during an episode like this. But finally after about 20 minutes of incredible pain, I drank a small amount of water. It seemed to help. The chicken did seem to move and the pain was less. I didn't sleep very well as I had a persistent ache in my shoulder and chest. This morning I feel better but still sore. I would like to hear other people's experience with this. I am 3 weeks post op and just adding things slowly. Could I have caused any damage? I plan on drinking only liquids today.

NO Hunge!
I have the same problem although I'm only 2 weeks post-op and I think my hunger will return. I do force myself to eat and I always drink at least one protein drink a day. So far when I eat, I eat something high in protein such as bits of chicken or tuna. Anyone experience the lack of hunger 2 weeks post-op?

Got scolded by np for protein shakes in the am
My surgeon said he wants me to have at least one protein shake a day.......forever. Go figure. All surgeons have a little different philosophy. I say as long as you're not drinking all your meals go for it. It seems a great way to insure you get enough protein.

Incision Healing?
I wouldn't worry unless there is redness, pain to touch, warmth or swelling. (I'm an RN). Don't put ANYTHING on it without your doctor's OK. It will close by itself. If your DR. prescribed oral antibiotics be sure you take all of them. I'm 2 weeks post-op and had a similar thing happen. They are healing well.

Dr's. in Dallas?
Check out Dr. Robert Snow at True Results located in Hurst, TX (in DFW area). I think he's wonderful and very good. I also had a hernia to be repaired. His whole office staff is very supportive

Should I eat if not hungry?
I'm a newbie. I've been banded since the 9th of June. At this point I have very little appetite except in the afternoon. I try to get in enough Protein with the Protein drinks. The question is: Should I eat 3 meals a day even if I'm not hungry? Most diet plans say never skip a meal but I can't see eating for the sake of eating. (I take Vitamins and Calcium too.) Rhonda

Posting Reality Check
I agree on the negativity. I was banded the 9th of June and I read all the scary stuff and questioned whether I was doing the right thing. Almost backed out! But I went ahead with the banding and I have to say that I've had none of the post-op problems discussed here. I know people have problems and this is where to come for support. I've read all the success stories and I hope one day I can write mine. Please keep in mind the newbie like me, we need encouragement.

New-Banded June 10th
I was banded on the 9th. Things are going well although I admit to craving my families dinner and having to stop myself from taking a bite. I have very little pain, just a little soreness. Today I walked 2 miles. It felt good. I am determined to lose this weight and keep it off for good. But I realize it's a marathon and not a sprint. I have a friend who had the gastric sleeve procedure in April, she has already lost 60 LBS. She has a lot of difficulty eating and some dumping syndrome. So the slow pace of the band is obviously better on our bodies. Good Luck! Rhonda url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/woap9q6/]

I agree, it's probably swelling. But you should never hesitate to call your DR. for any reason. That's why she/he is there. I think what you're experiencing is normal. I'm still a little sore, but can do most things. I did try to put on my jean crops today and even though I have lost weight they were snug. I know it's the swelling. I decided not wear them and put on a loose fitting dress. It makes my more comfortable and the heat is terrible right now. Keep in touch and good luck. url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/woap9q6/]

4 Days Post Op
- post op newbee
I was banded on the 9th of June so 5 days for me. No rumbling but a lot of bloat. Feeling pretty comfortable today. The only time I get hungry is about 2AM. I am a night time grazer so I guess my body doesn't want to give that up. So far, so good. url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/woap9q6/] - OMG, can you overdose on protein drinks?
I'm an RN. Protein can be hard on the kidneys but if you don't have kidney issues and you're not over 120 grams I shouldn't think there would be a problem. Just think of the protein overload in a large steak! url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/woap9q6/] - A question for anyone who cheated on their pre- op diet
My surgeon only had me on a pre-op diet for 2 days prior to band date. Don't feel too guilty. I think the surgery is easier if the liver is smaller but you will be fine- Any june 2011 Banders???
Today is my day too. I'm out of here in 12 minutes. I am very nervous. Am I doing the right thing.- How much recovery time?
Thank you everyone. It sounds like it will be a week until I can feed horses and a month before I can lift feed or hay. It will be a long month!- How much recovery time?
I'm being banded June 6th. My biggest concern is recovery time. I don't do well laying in bed. I live on a ranch and have many, many responsibilities. I have hired someone to help me with chores. How long before I'm back on my feet?- Wrong decision?
My band date is June 9th. I have the pre-surgery jitters. How will I do Post-op. Will I fail? Is this the right decision? I too have a BMI of 31. I am self pay because I am not "big" enough. I am barely 5 feet tall and small framed. But if I don't do this the road ahead is not pretty. Diabetes, knee replacements and high blood pressure etc. The list of health related issues that come from obesity is long and very scary. I am so scared I can hardly breathe.- Any june 2011 Banders???
My date is June 9th! My pre-op diet is only 2-3 days which makes me very happy. I'm nervous and excited. My only worry is failing, I don't want to fail like I have on soooooo many diets in the past.- Have you ever regretted telling someone about the band?
My band date is June 9th. I have a blabbermouth husband, so I chose to tell my adult children so there would be no misunderstandings. I didn't plan on telling anyone else but several very close friends inquired about my scheduled surgery. I didn't want to lie so I told them the truth. So far everyone has been supportive as they have watched me struggle on the weight loss roller coaster, up and down. Time will tell if they remain understanding and supportive. Most people confuse the band with radical bariatric surgeries. It often takes a long explanation.- Can you please help me?
I live near you in Aledo, TX. I will be banded June 9th. I voted for you, Good Luck! - post op newbee
