lucill35 got a reaction from Coastal Kari in 94 Lbs In 5 Months=not Good Enough Says Nurse..talk Me Off Ledge!
I am by no means any kind of expert but I got to tell you that's the most ridiculous thing have heard. When else in your life have you lost 95 lbs IN 5 months??? I think you are doing awesome. I am at 10 months out from my surgery date and still have another 40 some lbs to lose. I hope I will reach that goal. Admittedly, after 100 lbs my loss has slowed but it has not stopped by any means. I could probably help myself by not allowing as many carbs back into my life as I have but that was also one of the reasons that I had this surgery...because I thought it wasn't normal to think that I wouldn't eat a piece of pecan pie at Thanksgiving or any of the other food related things with those celebratory moments in life. I am not trying to go against any medical advice by any means. I just wanted to tell you that I think you are doing awesome!!!

lucill35 got a reaction from Carola! in Lap Band Or Gastric Sleeve Surgery...losing My Mind
When I began doing my research on WLS, my insurance only paid for lap band or bypass. I wasn't interested in bypass as the malabsorption issues and dumping problems concerned me. I did consider the lapband briefly but the idea of continous fills and the complication rate were also concerning to me. It was by the grace of god that somehow I came upon this website and learned about vsg. My insurance didn't cover vsg so I was self pay in Mexico and had my surgery on 1/29/11. The best decision I ever made and I believe saved my life. At almost 10 months out I have lost 103 lbs. You don't realize how bad you feel until you feel better. It's astounding to me. After doing the post-op liquids, there has been nothing that I haven't been able to eat. I had an easy recovery with no complications and would do the surgery again in a minute. I tell everyone I know about it and again feel it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck to you in your decision making.

lucill35 got a reaction from cludgie in Halloween (Oct. 31) - What will you Weigh?
I may not make my Halloween goal but I am in ONEDERLAND and 3.4 pounds away from having lost 100 lbs!!! I was sleeved on 1/29/11, almost exactly 8 months ago. Loosing 100 lbs was something that I wanted to happen but the idea was difficult to wrap my mind around and believe that I would be able to do. I've done WW, Atkins, Nutri-System, South Beach in the past and not been successful so I was skeptical while hopeful that the sleeve would work for me. My mom supported me on this journey and to thank her for her support I gave her a Bracelet that said believe on it. Over the summer I got a tattoo of the japanese symbol for believe on my wrist to remind me as I reach for something I shouldn't have, to believe I can do it. While it's been difficult I do believe. I would encourage anyone thinking about VSG, to believe. You can do it and the sleeve will help you reach your goals!

lucill35 got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene in Labor Day - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???
Well I didn't make my Labor Day goal (by 6lbs) and I have no one to blame but myself. I do consider it a success though that since surgery, I have lost 90+ lbs which is more than I have ever dreamed of losing. I feel like I have the eating stuff down but now need to work on the head stuff which I fear will be a lifelong struggle. I am going to consider where I want to be by Halloween and work on a plan for getting there. I love these challenges and feel like they work in keeping me accountable!! Thanks to Irene for spearheading these and I hope that once you make your goal (although you look FAB now) you will still be a part of the forum as you are an inspiration to many!!

lucill35 got a reaction from SKCUNNINGHAM in What was the worst part after surgery ?
Today is my 6 month surgiversary, sleeved 1/29/11. As I thought about your question I remember how scared I was to have the surgery. After the surgery I had a very uneventful recovery. Minimally pain after surgery at the hospital and my biggest problem was that I felt like I was going to throw up right after the surgery but that was minimal and I was given nausea (sp??) medication for that. The most difficult part for me in the past 6 months has been reconciling what I can eat with what I want to eat and finding different ways to comfort myself during times of stress than eating. The head hunger to me is far worse than any surgical problems. Good luck to you!
