How's everyone doing these days? If you are anything like me, it's the start of the season. I have a triathlon this weekend, a trail half marathon the next weekend, another triathlon the weekend following and then two weeks from that I have a full marathon. So if you don't hear from me again, remember that it was I that decide to kill myself by booking so many races back-to-back-to-back-to-back! Good luck everyone.

Nice ... I'm still in physical therapy. Cleared for long walks, though, and did do a spinning class during a "trial" membership at 24 hour fitness. They say I may be able to run again by the end of this month. We'll see.
Good luck to all who have events coming up.

PdxMan - Thanks for posting this. I was a lurker here on this forum for sometime before everyone's stories gave me the strength to start speaking out. The inspiration rests with this whole group.

Results are in and I'm back on the circuit. Threw a high Protein count but that was because I did a half marathon the day before my chems so the doctor says I go back to training.

The only thing she will let me do is swim. Staring at tiles makes me crazy ...
It has to do with the whole hip rotation thing. The muscles right along the lower spine at this point have just begun to start firing. At this point, part of my PT is to lay on my back with my legs bent slowly swaying side to side. 10 minutes of that kicks my butt. It's ridiculous, but I just keep doing what I can to get back at it.
I'll get there, but just like eating post-VSG, I have to progress slowly.

    Yay!
I talked to my physical therapist yesterday when she thought I would be able to get back in the game.
She said end of April ... oye
I curse at every runner out there when I drive to work. I know ... I'm terrible.

So an update - it took three ER visits, before anyone decided to take this seriously. Apparently I was bleeding and because I had been laying (and walking every 30 minutes as per the doctor's instructions) I developed a blood bruise on the left side. What made matters worse is there wasn't a CT Scan in the Las Vegas area that would hold a man of my weight and girth (guess fat people are just screwed in Sin City) and so I was admitte to the hospital for five days for monitoring. Now everything is 95% back to normal!

Way to go BTB.....looking good!!! Your going to be collecting race bibs soon!! I have a bit of good news to share.....I did it!!! I ran a half marathon on the treadmill and finished in 2:44:00! My first half marathon - The Rock and Roll Half in DC is only 14 days away and I wanted to make sure I could run from start to finish and I am sooo psyched now. I even ran errands after leaving the gym......today was an awesome day!

Must be a good day for running. New PR for me in the half marathon, 2:03. Still had a little something in the tank at the end.

    Congrats Butter!
Yeah, those big races do get a bit annoying with all the people. I can never understand why the walkers would even WANT to be at the front getting jostled by all the runners ... oh well ...
Races sure are fun. The people, adrenaline and everything. Just being surrounded by so many (relatively) health-conscience people. I can't wait to get back into it. My physical therapist says about another month before I can try running again.
Congrats to you, too Mass! It was suggested that I swim as an alternative to running, but I just can't do it. Staring at the bottom of a pool for an hour just drives my crazy. I've tried ... wanted to, as I have a desire to do tri's, too, but I gotta enjoy it. I enjoy swimming recreationally with my kids and whatnot, but as an exercise routine ... oye. If they could have one of those stationary, infinity swimming pools with and LCD screen on the bottom, I could do it. I gotta have something to look at besides blue tiles ...

New PR today for 5 k of 22:30. Sweet spot was 6.5 mph adjusting up to 7.0 every few minutes.
I could have gone longer, but I was having trouble with balance after a while. I try and keep my center of gravity right in front of my core while running chi style. Any thoughts about how to work on balance and form at faster speeds? I was not tired, but just a tad unsure of my footing at times which caused me to move out of my running "zone" just enough to be distracting. Losing the weight has allowed me to take running to another level. Love it!
