TaniaG got a reaction from GreenTealael in Lap to Bypass
It's been a long while that I have been off this forum but thought I'd come back for support and information.
Can anyone tell me if they had a hernia after bypass. What symptoms did you have & did it need to be removed?

Thanks for your response!! I appreciate the insight. So sorry you had to suffer but sounds like you are thankfully on the med for good.
Interesting because my Dr said if I had removal I would have to wait for the bypass surgery. I was like --do it all at once!! I mean I 'm already sedated!!! But she does not so that she makes her patients wait and I guess its for the best so I can heal after band removal. I am thinking a lot about this and think I am going to have the band removed but not the other surgery. It just seems like too much. But I am afraid that without the band I will gain everything back and at my age my metabolism is a mess!! Anyway please feel better I will keep you posted on my progress probably have band removed at beginning of next year and then take it from there.

Hi, all. I was banded in February/14. I lost 50 pounds lickety-split (6 months) and then slowly started to struggle. I now am up twenty pounds and still struggling. I have had some band issues (over fill, de-fill, not enough fills, etc) and I really struggle with emotional eating still (stress, discouragement mainly). My naturopathic doctor thinks I'm not getting enough Protein and fat to lose weight. Hmm.
I certainly know what I'm doing wrong in terms of eating too much...I just wonder if I could actually be eating too little of the right things...and truly, I just need some support from some folks who may have been challenged in similar ways and have won the battle.
    Thanks!

The band is not for everyone...however many individuals are very successful with their weight loss journey...including me!
Good to read that you are happy with your choice.

I always thought of my band as the house and I needed to be the interior decorator. Filling my body full of nutritious foods. There are things that my band has taught me about life and one would not think that but it has. So what has my band taught me?

To have patience and plenty of it because no matter what you think if you don't have patience with your weight loss then you will give up and fail.

To love myself. Yes and I say that TO LOVE OURSELVES. I would have to think that most of us if not all of us did not love ourselves because we loved food more. I love myself enough to know now that I was poisoning my body for years with disgusting fatty, sugary foods that made my life hell.

To be a better person because I had an opportunity to get what I needed that some will never get and to understand that this issue with food is more then just my issue and to never put anyone down because of it but to help them learn the right way of living.

To know that I don't need a million pounds of food to live but that my body runs efficiently off of what I give it and I don't need more. Sometimes it could be less lol but there is always those ice cream moments.

That failure is only an option if I decide to fail. No one is to blame if I don't make this work but me.

That being thinner does not make my husband or family or friends love me more. If they can't except you fat they really can't except you thin. Love is unconditional as it always should be.

That I did not do this for anyone except my self. I did not lose weight because my husband thought I was too fat and he never thought I was too fat I did. Nor did I lose weight because people said I should. I did it because I wanted to and no one influenced my decision to have surgery or to not have it.

That I have way more will power then I thought I ever could and that is the truth because there is always temptation for all of us food lovers and mine is sugar.

These are just the tip of the ice burg but they are some good lessons I have learned. I never thought this was easy from the beginning and its not four years later because maintaining is harder then losing it was. But now I control where my future rest and its up to me to see that I get there come hell or high Water. What has your band taught you?

TaniaG reacted to 2muchfun in How to know when you have hit the GREEN ZONE?
It took me 6 fills and 7 months to get to the green zone. Others hit it right after surgery. Some have taken over a year. Much depends on your doctor and how aggressive he/she is with fills?
Losing 4-6 lbs a month is quite average and many bandster's would welcome those results. But, if you want to know when you have hit the green zone, it's really a mental state more than a physical state.
Being one with the band or being in touch with your body physiology is so important with the band. Sometimes the most subtle signals slip right by a Bandster and many of them go on to not succeed as much as they had planned.
Here's how it works for me(and every one will be different): I fill my plate with as much as I should be eating but really I put too much on it usually. As I eat, I get to a state where I'm not really hungry any longer. I can stop now, and sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. When I do, it's because the taste no longer satisfies me or my appetite has suddenly gone away or has been diminished. When I don't, it's old habits kicking in or the food is so stinking awesome I crave more. Obviously, I'm not paying attention now and I'm not in touch with my body or band.
So, it's a mind thing and paying attention to the signals my body is sending. It's not a big signal, so pay very close attention.
How big your band is or how much saline is in it is irrelevant.

TaniaG got a reaction from kll724 in 2.6 lbs. up after holidays
    Hi Atlantak
I'm just returning after being off for close to three years. I gained 6 lbs since Oct. My dr had to remove the Fluid in my band due to some complications. I went in before the holidays to get 7 cc and I'm back on track!
I've had my band for almost 3 years and have lost 55 lbs within 6 mths but have put back on 30 of those lbs!!!!
This is why I decided to get back online for support. I need to find a way to make my band work for me.
It seems like your doing great!

I honestly don't know why I left the support of BPal but glad I'm back. I'm thinking that's why I struggled for this whole time. New year new hopes right?
I have my band filled to 7cc and I go back to my dr later this month gonna get some added in I know I'm not in my green zone yet.
I added a ticker to my post in hopes that will make it a lot more real for me. I plan to weigh myself once a week.
I've been on winter vacation for two weeks, go back to work Monday. Looking forward to it being at home messes up my eating properly and my workouts not to mention we just finished two food filled holidays lol!
My plan is to workout daily climb mountain twice a week maybe three, treadmill nightly, and cardio in the morning I tell you its hard to get started but once I see even the slightest result I am committed.
My plan for eating is to measure, measure, measure!!! My doc told me a long time ago to stop eating after five spoons full and well I didn't take his advice.
My outlook is to make my band work for me and get the weight off the way the band was intended to work.
Ok, sorry I think I rattled on enough. Enjoy your wknd

Well it'll be 3 years since my lap band surgery and honestly it's been an up and down climb. I haven't been online for almost three years!!!!!
I started off strong and lost 55 lbs. and since have gained some and lost some. Didn't think i"d still be up and down with my weight after getting the band. After almost 3 years I still haven't found a way to make my band work for me. This is the year however!!!!

Been a while since I've visited; here I am again.
Had to go in for very minor fill (.2cc) as my liife has changed a bit.
20 months ago I had to return to daily insulin injection along with oral meds.
In 20 months I've gain 20# as well.
24 months ago I was having issues (not GERD) with throwing back up. Daily. Not that big a deal but annoying nonetheless.
After many studies/x-rays/consults with specialists, we settled on the easiest most obvious.
I had .2 ccs removed, after months in increasing symptoms.
    That helped dramatically.
So now it's you & me Babe. The Band, I mean. My buddy. My little "Symbiant".
    Cheers to Bandster everywhere!!!!
