  1. since we are on liquids only, dr told me not to take my bp meds or my fluid pills. I had already stopped my arthritis medicine. He told me to watch my bp and if it started going up but since I am on clear liquids only I should need it. My bp been fine and I have no swelling in my ankles so I havent taken any. Now I do have alot of trouble getting jello down, my tummy doesnt like anything cold. So I have only been able to drink hot broth and hot apple cider. Everytime I try jello my stomach cramps up real bad. I am going to call the dr on monday and see if that is normal. I will probably put a post out on the forum also to see if anyone else is having that problem.
  2. You might want to think twice about your choice of food. If you have only been banded about 2 weeks, you are going to make yourself sick with a hamburger and dr pepper. Go ahead and eat it, you wont do it again. stick with the food plan and have some mashed potatoes and maybe some mushy vegetables with it. Good Luck!
  3. I did shakes for lunch and did applebees soup and salad for lunch then shake for supper. The lunch portions are really small. This worked really well for me. The day before my surgery I had all clear liquids and I was banded on wednesday. I have not been hungry since. I have 2 more days of clear liquids, the hardes thing I find to get down is the water, I do much better with heated chicken broth or hot apple cider. Try the cider its found next to the hot cocoa mix. It is excellent and it will get you through. Good Luck!

    Day 1 Post Op

Banded day before yesterday, and yesterday the nurse said it was still considered day 0 since I was still in the hospital. So today is day one. Ooooo doggie, my tummie hurts this morning from my incision and its just a rumblin and grimblin in there. Still, I got up and cooked my husband breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs with ham and I am sipping on my hot apple cider. I know it has 80 calories in it, but it really goes down easy and help with my pain. I am going to try to walk a little at the gym today. Hope everyone has a great Friday!
  5. Everything went very well. I have not been hungry at all. Hard to eat jello though. I do much better with ice water and chicken broth. When I swallow anything, I still have alot of gas comeup. My stomach kindof cramps up and there is alot of growling. I am eating the chewable gas x tablets and that seems to help some. Stepped on the scale when I came home today and gained 3 pounds. yes I fussed! but I guess its just becuase everything is swollen. I have been up as much as possible today, cooked venison backstrap with yellow rice and corn for my husband for supper and then I made some nutter butter balls dipped in chocolate. Had absolutly NO desire to eat anyof it. Backs of my legs are screaming at me from pushing myself up in the hospital bed. I am taking some of my liquid loritab and hopefully that will get me thru the night.

    Banded Yesterday!!

im on clear liquids for 3 more days, chicken broth, beef broth, vitamin water. Try the hot apple cidar next to the hot cocoa mix. it is really yummy and helps with the pain. I have not been hungry at all since my surgery day before yesterday. mainly just stomach cramps from the gas. I am very glad we are in minimal pain, I have read some posts where it was excrutiaing (spelling?) Hope you have a great weekend, this is one time where we can say "its all downhill from here" and be happy about it.
  7. I was banded on Wednesday. I have some pain but not alot. The hospital gave me two breathing treatments and wants me to do the breathing machine 5 times a day to help move the gas away from my lungs. I was given some liquid loritab for pain but only took it last night before bed. Get up and move around, walk, it makes it easier and I bet I ate 6 gas x tablets(chewable) yesterday alone. also do the windmill with your arms. I do big circles one side then the other and then together. My biggest problems is that I find it very hard to drink anything, I still have alot of gas in my stomach that when I swallow the gas pushes my jello back up into my esaphogus. Good luck!
  8. day after surgery. Thanks everyone.. The surgery went VERY well. I was at hospital by 7 am and they took me back at 7:15 and hooked up my IV about 8:30 they took me in and was finished with the surgery about 45min later. Doc said everything went really well. They gave me a patch behind my ear and meds in my iVfor nausea before I woke up. I have NOT had ANY nausea!!! I was so frantic over that. The nurses started me on water and crytal light, but I kept burping up the crystal light...

    Final Countdown

well its here, surgery eve... sipping on a cup of hot apple cider. I had clear liquids all day today which really was not as hard as i thought it would be until now. I could really go for a snack. I sure hope the anesthesia doesnt make me sick. Last time I had surgery was 19 years ago and I was so ill when I woke up. I had to stay overnight because I could not stop dry heaving. So of course Im a little worried about that with the band. I bought chicken broth, beef broth, LOTS of jello, apple juice, white grape juice and hot apple cider. Hopefully that will get me thru the first week. Anyone has any suggestions on what else I can have that is clear liquids? Wish me luck!

    Final Countdown

Thanks everyone.. The surgery went VERY well. I was at hospital by 7 am and they took me back at 7:15 and hooked up my IV about 8:30 they took me in and was finished with the surgery about 45min later. Doc said everything went really well. They gave me a patch behind my ear and meds in my iVfor nausea before I woke up. I have NOT had ANY nausea!!! I was so frantic over that. The nurses started me on water and crytal light, but I kept burping up the crystal light so I am holding off on drinking that. Water was good enough. Had chicken broth for breakfast and beef broth for supper with sugar free jello. I am home now drinking water and vitamin water. I acutally gained about 3 pounds, but im sure thats because everything is still swollen. have to drink clear liquids til saturday and then I can have soups, cream soups, and milk in my coffee. I am so excited that I have not been hungry once in the last 2 days! Good Luck to everyone that has upcoming surgeries. I hope yours goes as well as mine!

    Day 11

stepped on scale today. down to 285, so I have lost 7 pounds. I was expecting a little bit more, but I guess I will take what I get. Yesterday was my second day walking. The first day I walked 1 1/2 miles at the gym and I used the setting "hills". yesterday I only did a mile because I have been battling this could and I felt weak. Will go again today and try to do 2 miles. I went to the nutrition store and bought the muscle milk light shake powder, I like it a lot better and it has alot less calories than the regular powder with alot of vitamins. Gotta get to work. Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!!
  12. Good Luck, Im getting mine done in the morning, Cant sleep!
  13. final countdown to surgery. Have to be at the hospital at 7 am. A little nervous, more worried about how bad the anesthesia is going to affect me. Had clear liquids all day today. I could really go for something solid in my tummy. I am sipping on a cup of hot apple cider right now. Wish me luck!

    Coffee After Lap Band Surgery?

Thanks so much! I will ask my doctor, Im sure I will be live if I dont have my coffee for a week. I was just wondering if there was some aweful side affect from having it a couple of days after surgery. I didnt even think about it dehydrating me. Thanks for your reply!

Not Drinking All Of My Shakes

I also buy the muscle milk light! its has a great light taste. Its not thick and slimey. Sometimes I put 1 pckg of splenda in it if I feel a sweet tooth. I drink one at 7 am and usually I am good to go til around 12:30 or 1.

    Banded This Morning

That is such good news and sort of a relief to me. I have heard the horror stories about the gas pains. I think I am scared of that the most! Thanks so much for sharing.

    Pre-op Day 1

What kind of shake are you drinking? Some of them have a slimey texture and they make me feel sick also. Try Muscle Milk or Muscle Milk Light. They have a great taste. I have no problem drinking those all day, and once I blend them up they stay pretty blended the rest of the day.
  19. Wow!! Great Job!!! I started my preop diet a week ago and lost 7 pounds this week. I am getting banded on the 7th of Dec. Thanks for posting, that is very encouraging!

    Day 8 Of Preop Surgery

Last post was Tuesday November 22. On Wednesday I recieved the call from the dr's office to schedule my surgery date for 12/07/11. yey!!! I have done very well on my shakes. Of course Thanksgiving was a bomb, but I did a shake for breakfast, we ate around 12:30 and I did eat dinner, but I kept it under control. Shake for supper . Friday, I did very well shakes all day and for supper I had a small go wrap from wendys' since I was traveling 3 hrs to Jackson, MS. SAturday I had a scrambled egg and a half of a grilled chicken sandwich. I am going to have to figure out what to do on trips. I dont want to eat like that anymore. so its early sunday morning, I will do all liquids today and weigh in when I wake up. Hopefully I have lost a couple of pounds since the dr visit. Alot of people have commented and asked if I am losing weight, so thats always a good sign. I also need to start excercising. I read up if you put on a pedometer, it is the healthiest to try to get 10,000 steps per day. This equals about 5 miles. So Im going to get me one in the morning and start tracking. Its been a long time since I walked, so my legs are going to scream at me!! lol

    Day 3 Pre-op Diet & Side Effects

be careful with the calcium supplement. When I was taking it and my dr took blood work he said that my calcium was high and to stop taking it. Too much calcium in the blood can cause irregular heart beats. He said for me to just get on a GOOD multivitamin and I should be good to go.

    Day 4 Of Preop Diet

Today was a good day. I had a grapefruit for breakfast. A friend of mine has 3 pink grapefruit trees in her yard so I was lucky to get 2 huge walmart bags full of grapefruit. They are very good. For lunch i tried the new tomato protein soup. I think the brand name is why weight. 7 pckgs for $12. kind of spendy, but it was actually pretty good. 15 gms of protein, 80 calories and no fat. and I just had my protein shake for dinner. Although Im not starving YET, the urge to chew on sold food is pretty strong, so I am trying my best to stay as far away from the kitchen as possible tonight. Hubby had to eat left overs, but he was okay with it. Still waiting on the call the schedule the surgery.

    Day 2 Of Presurgery Diet

I've done pretty good so far today. I managed to make banana pancakes and sausage for my family AND watch them eat while i had my coffee and protein shake. YEY ME! I had another shake for lunch, but i did go manage to talk myself into eating 3 turkey meatballs with marina over about 12 penne pasta. I am having another shake for snack before bed... and no wine :-( sad face. I go to see Dr Lavine tomorrow morning at 9 am. I am very excited to discover when we get to do the surgery. p.s.. I can hear my husband crunching on potatoe chips while I type this.... I can see we are going to have a talk. lol
  25. lap band or gastric bypass? I havent heard of anyone dieing of malnutrition from the lap band. I havent had my surgery yet, but Ive been keeping up with the forum and hearing street talk since Jan of this year. Ive heard of the band slipping but nothing worse.
