Short term disability
jenngetsthin replied to Rawlinos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you live in CA and you have worked at your job for over 12 months (there may be other qualifications such as size of company, etc.), you should qualify for CA disability. I use it every time I have a medical leave. You should contact HR at your job and they should be able to give you the paperwork or a person to speak with the start the process. Good luck. -
I'm pre-op but was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea a little over a year ago. I hate wearing the cpap. But I get headaches if I don't wear it. My doc said most patients who lose 20% of their weight stop having apnea so I'm hoping and praying that's the case for me.

Anyone from the East bay CA?
jenngetsthin replied to anitakad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure. I know the pre-surgery info sessions are on Wed nights at 6 pm. But not sure about the support groups. I think I read somewhere it's once a month on a Sat. -
You look great. Congrats.

I like the taste of Splenda the best. I also don't mind Equal. I couldn't stand Stevia but I do like Truvia and I've been trying to use that more instead of Splenda because I've heard it's more natural, though I still have Splenda when in a restaurant, at Starbucks, etc. It did take a little adjustment to get used to the different taste, but now I like it. I know some are vehemently opposed to any artificial sweeteners, but I feel like for me (a sugar addict) I think it's a better choice because I can't have "just a little bit" of the real thing.

How did you guys do on your pre op diet?

Wow, props to you. I can't imagine drinking 7 shakes per day! Good luck with your upcoming surgery. -

How much time off?
jenngetsthin replied to waxylady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I go from El Cerrito Plaza to Montgomery. I do sometimes backtrack to Civic Center if it's crowded or I know I really need a seat that day. I don't have to rush home to pick anyone up anymore (one in college, and one walks home now) so that's nice to not have to rush. I normally get a seat in the mornings unless there are delays. -
How much time off?
jenngetsthin replied to waxylady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for this info. I am a legal secretary and was wondering how long I should take off. While I do sit most of the day, I also have an hour commute each way on BART to/from home to office, including 1/2 mile walk each way. I was trying to figure out how much time I should take off. I had hip surgery and took 7 weeks off, but I could have gone back after 4. That surgery is definitely a longer recovery period, but with this one I'm more worried about lacking energy due to the diet. Looks like I should consider at least 4 weeks for this. Also, not having energy and dealing with people on BART every day might push me over the edge LOL. -
What do you use in place of eating for fun/stress/boredom?
jenngetsthin replied to ProfessorSlim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is awesome! Good luck. I'm 45 and I graduated from law school in 2003 and took the bar (and didn't pass) in 2009. Now I have one off child to college and the other is 11, so I think I will take the time to study for and pass the bar. Never too late, right? You've inspired me!! -
Is there where I introduce myself?
jenngetsthin posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. I'm returning to this forum after about 7 years. I went through the process then and didn't get final approval due to being diagnosed with Crohn's around the same time. I've been off/on Weight Watchers numerous times since then and my weight keeps going up and down and the weight loss is slower now that I'm older also (45). I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea last year and I have arthritis in my hip due to congenital hip dysplasia (already had the right one replaced but would like the left to last as long as possible). So I decided to start the process again. I go see my PCP in a few weeks and I'm also attending an informational seminar at the hospital at the end of the month. I live in the Bay Area, CA and will be going through John Muir (most likely Dr. Chin) to get the VSG. -

Is there where I introduce myself?
jenngetsthin replied to jenngetsthin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. Welcome. Yes, I can walk and hike fine right now. Eventually, my left hip will get worse due to the way my socket is but eliminating pressure via weight loss will help slow that. I will definitely not wait as long with this hip as I did with the other. I want to get over to Pt. Bonita with my dogs. It's a beautiful walk and flat which I like lol. -
Congrats!
