  1. I am 5 days post-op and my doc's office said I could start full liquids for the next two weeks. I made some cream of wheat with 2/3 cup skim milk but could only eat about 1/2 of that (saved the rest for breakfast tomorrow). I've been sipping water all day and made a protein drink for lunch but didn't get a whole lot down. I'm not having any problems swallowing but I not sure how much I am supposed to be having and I don't want to overdo it then get sick. However, my stomach is constantly rumbling. I'm sure part of it is gas but I feel part of it is hunger. Am I not eating enough? How often should I eat and how much? I see on this site some who are already eating pureed mushies by the 2nd and 3rd week. I would love to have some mushies but I am scared. Why are all of our doctors so different with surgical procedures and eating procedures? What is safe to try and what is not? I will be so glad when week 6 gets here and I know I will be able to try something real. I bought several WLS cookbooks and they have mushie recipes for lap band patients at 2-3 weeks. So why do VSG patients have to wait so long? Sorry - getting grustrated.

    IS IT TRUE?

I am 5 days post-op and my stomach doesn't feel any different except that I don't feel like I'm starving all the time.

    I am such a failure!!!

You and me both. I was also sleeved on Monday and I haven't even thought about food until last night. My stomach started growling (or maybe it was gas - not sure) and I immediately wanted some chips and dip. Too scared to even try.

    In Pain!

Hang in there. You are only 1 day post-op. It took me till day 4 to start getting any relief. My doctors office told me that I needed to realize I have just had major surgery and a lot of pain this first week is normal. They assured me to keep taking the pain meds - don't try to be tough - your body has been through a major ordeal. Yeah, it's kind of weird - I haven't even thought about food. However, my stomach did growl a lot last night (or maybe that was gas - lol). Please contact me here or at my personal e-mail on my profile and I will be happy to help you in any way I can. I am only 5 days post-op myself so I'm sure we can help each other out. Thank God for this website.
  5. I'm sorry that you are in such pain and I completely understand. My doctor sent me home from the hospital with Loratab for pain, Nexium - to take daily and something for nausea - which I haven't taken because I have not been nauseous. I am taking GAS X about 3 times in a 24 hr period. My surgery was this past Monday and as of yesterday I was still in a lot of pain. I called my doctor's office because I was concerned. His nurse told me that this kind of pain is normal the first week. Even though it was done laprascopically, we have just had major surgery. Yesterday afternoon I noticed I was not as sore. It's 5:19 am here in Texas and I actually do feel less sore today but I have a terrible pain on my right side - which is a first - it has not been hurting. I think it may be gas. I have not taken Milk of Magnesia yet but I plan to start today when my husband gets off work and can buy me some. I am sooooo ready for Monday so I can have this drain taken out. I was sort of worried this morning that it had gotten clogged because there doesn't seem to be as much draining anymore. My husband examined the tube and assures me it is still draining. I have only been able to sleep on my back or my left side. Not completely comfortable but comfortable enough to fall asleep and I can actually get about 4 hrs of sleep at a time right now. Did you notice that you gained weight? I weighed myself when I got home from hospital and had gained 8 pounds (Fluid of course). When I got up this morning I am down to 328.8 so that puts me down about 6 lbs since surgery. Please keep in touch - i will be happy to help you in anyway I can. You can contact me here or on my personal e-mail if that would be easier. I hope you feel better soon. I am just so thankful for this site so that we can see that what we are going through is pretty common and other sleevers have experienced similar situations. Hope you have a better day.

    My VSG Journey!

Congratulations! That is awesome. How are you feeling? I was just sleeved on the 15th - still feeling a little rough.
  8. Some but not as bad as you. I think I am scared to eat because I don't want to hurt or throw up. I feel you will feel better about this once you get to start tasting food again. I read somewhere once that a thin person can take a couple of bite of something and be satisfied where as a large person thinks they have to eat the whole thing to be satisfied. Maybe we can adopt the thinking of that thin person. I know I would be satisfied with a mini candy bar than no candy bar at all. My doc said I could have some cream of wheat tomorrow and for some reason I am really excited about that. I will pray it gets better for you - this is going to be a hard road for all of us. I also bought several cookbooks for eating after WLS - planning meals for the future is helping me to cope too I think. I don't think you are crazy.
  9. My surgery was Monday and I came home Tuesday. I am sipping Water and Lipton diet green tea. I have had a few small bites of SF Jello. I can eat a SF popsicle - if slow. Then my stomach makes these weird gurgling noises. I am still in quite a bit of pain and my lower back hurts real bad. I called my doc's office today and was told I am being too impatient. That I had a major surgery and it will take awhile for the pain to ease up. The only excersing I am doing at this point is walking around my house about once an hour. I weighed 334.5 on day of surgery and gained to to 345 due to all the fluds they pump in plus the IV's. I am urinating quite frequently now so the Fluid is coming off. I just weighed and I am down to 330.0 so I guess I have lost 4.5 lbs since Monday. How are you feeling? I have to admit I didn't realize the pain would be so bad. Please keep in touch.
  10. Hi Everyone! I was sleeved at 7:30 am yesterday and came home today around 2 PM. Other than extreme soreness and backpain from that horrible hospital bed, I feel pretty good. No nausea. The doctor told me to sip as long as I am awake (trying to get in 3 oz. per hour). I am disappointed that I can't take a shower until ater my drain is removed. He said sponge baths only. I hope all the others who had surgery yesterday are doing as well. Please keep in touch.
  11. Does anyone remember how they felt 4 days post-op? My lower back hurts so bad and I had no idea I would be this sore. I really don't want to have to be dependent on pain medicine too long. I've been trying to walk some but the back pain prevents me from standing up too long. I am urinating quite frequently. Trying to sip and attempted a SF popsicle yesterday. Had to start on GAS X last night. Is this normal the way I feel or do you think there could be a problem? I have a call into my doctors office but no one has called me back yet. I just thought I would be moving around better by now.
  12. Are you having to wear a compression wrap around your belly? I think this thing is making me uncomfortable too. Thanks for your help.
  13. Hi e1! I just came home from the hospital yesterday evening after being sleeved on Monday. I feel really good except for one thing. I have this horrible pain in my left shoulder and up the left side of my neck. I have been attributing it to the fact that my hospital bed and pillow sucked and I was very uncomfortable. But now I am not so sure. Could it be trapped gas that is causing this pain and what should I do about it? I am not as uncomfortable if I am sitting up but I can't sit up 24 hrs a day. As you can see it is 2:02 am here in Texas and I am up because I cannot get comfortable enough to sleep. Maybe I should try the recliner?

Gas Pain or Stiffness In Neck?

Since you were sleeved the same day I was, I was curious as to how you are feeling. I am not nauseous or anything but on this third day, I am really, really sore. My lower back hurts too. I've been trying to walk but can't go far. What are your expeiences? I know I have been going to the potty alot (i guess all the Fluid beginning to drain). Please keep in touch.
  15. Tomorrow is the big day! At 7:30am tomorrow morning I should be in surgery. Excited but I little scared. I know there are several others scheduled for tomorrow as well and I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone well. Even though I don't know all of you, God does, and I will be saying a special prayer for all of us tonight and again tomorrow morning. I will pray for Him to guide our surgeons hands and lead our surgeons every step of the way so that we have a safe surgery. Then I will pray for our recovery. I have no doubt that God will watch over each and every one of us. Good luck everyone. Please update when you get home from the hospital so we can share our experiences and help each other out. I need lots of support please. Cindy

    November 16 2010

Yes, I do. I am to be sleeved this upcoming Monday, 11/15 @ 7:30 am. All week I have been worried about the pain and not knowing what to expect. I was so stressed today I ate something I shouldn't have - only to feel guilty later. But I am tired f being overweight and feeling bad so I WILL NOT BACKOUT. Three more days - just three more days and all the wait and worrying will be over. Good luck to you and please keep us posted on your surgery and your progress.
  19. Where did you find egg flower soup? I've never heard of it.
