My doc asked me if I would be happy with a 50 pound loss... I said yes, but wanted to try for more. after 4 1/2 years, I'm at a about 74% loss.... I'm feeling a little bit more like a fat person than a normal one now... but still so happy I did it. I have made many lifestyle changes that have stuck, but a few have slipped a little.... I really don't want to get to that "50 pounds" he talked about... hope I can maintain here at a 70 pound loss.....

@@feedyoureye Thanks for the post. I think the numbers are fairly consistent with what I was told to expect, and it makes sense that comorbidities would also return if people gain weight. I was one with a lot of weight to lose, and my surgeon told me the bypass would probably be better, but I was a candidate for either.
I often think I could have lost that last 10 pounds if I'd had bypass, but I'm still not sorry I made this choice (sleeve). I think the outcome would be the same in the long term for me. I am currently struggling a lot to not gain. It's getting harder and harder, and I really wasn't prepared for this. Either way, I lost over 90% of my excess weight, and at nearly three years out, I find it's 90% me, and 10% sleeve.
When I went into this, I knew long term I might settle at a 60% reduction from where I started. Now that I've lost so much and gotten to a normal size, the idea of that much regain is devastating to me. I'm going to do my best to not become a statistic!

AT 5+ years, I am still a work in progress. I still maintain at 55% EWL. I gained over 35 pounds in the last year+. Easy as pie. Literally. I can eat anything, and in large amounts if spread over time. I still do not drink with meals unless I have Breakfast out which is not often. I reach for food when emotional or stressful situations come up. I know it... I watch it, I work on it. I mostly write down what I eat, and watch Protein, but those weeks that I don't, I gain. It is not easy to get off. Yes the sleeve still works. I eat less at any sitting... Protein first really makes me feel full faster. I continue exercise, and recommitted again.... just finished the 5 day "pouch" test with a 5 pound loss and a lowering of the Carb addiction. One step at a time. The head has to be in the game, just like before weight loss surgery. The sleeve helps... it is a tool, just like they say, and has helped me to maintain at least 50 pound loss for 5 years. I had a weight gain at 2+ years and worked to get to goal after that... so I know I can do it. I think for me, this is something I need to watch and plan every day.... when I don't I gain. I am very happy I got the sleeve though.... VERY HAPPY. Kindle, so true! I didn't see that.

Most likely your breast size will change a LOT after surgery, you might want to reverse the order of your procedures....Look in the "girls gone wild" folder here for breast stories...

I went to SILs funeral yesterday and I have to say it was the most amazing funeral I have ever been to. It really was a celebration of her life. The eulogy, given by her eldest daughter was amazing, the number of people who attended was beyond belief (approx 150 couldn't even get into the church!) and the wake went on until 3 am. We had to leave, without consuming alcohol cos we had to drive home and be up at 6am this morning. Pictures and video on FB showed that the rest of the family really partied and I'm sure Cathy would have approved. I thought it was going to be a really emotional and tiring day, and it was, but it was uplifting too. RIP Cathy Manley - you was one amazing lady.

feedyoureye got a reaction from FabLes in Probability of an Obese Person Attaining Normal Body Weight
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/849908_1 Probability of an Obese Person Attaining Normal Body Weight: Cohort Study Using Electronic Health Records AbstractObjectives. We examined the probability of an obese person attaining normal body weight.
Methods. We drew a sample of individuals aged 20 years and older from the United Kingdom's Clinical Practice Research Datalink from 2004 to 2014. We analyzed data for 76,704 obese men and 99,791 obese women. We excluded participants who received bariatric surgery. We estimated the probability of attaining normal weight or 5% reduction in body weight.
Results. During a maximum of 9 years' follow-up, 1283 men and 2245 women attained normal body weight. In simple obesity (body mass index = 30.0–34.9 kg/m2), the annual probability of attaining normal weight was 1 in 210 for men and 1 in 124 for women, increasing to 1 in 1290 for men and 1 in 677 for women with morbid obesity (body mass index = 40.0–44.9 kg/m2). The annual probability of achieving a 5% weight reduction was 1 in 8 for men and 1 in 7 for women with morbid obesity.
Conclusions. The probability of attaining normal weight or maintaining weight loss is low. Obesity treatment frameworks grounded in community-based weight management programs may be ineffective.
This is only the abstract from a larger article.

This should keep everybody busy that are interested in the 5:2, keep in mind this is for people who are at least a year out, have hit the wall, or started regaining... have not reached goal after a loooong stall... the rest of you, ring the life out of your Dr and Nuts plan before going here.... Not all people lose weight on this plan, it is not a quick weight loss plan, it is a lifestyle protocol that is a plan to improve longevity, and some people lose weight on it too. It is not a quick fix. That being said, some people here who could just not get the last few pounds off, or were starting to gain, have found success with this protocol.....
2 1/2 after WLS I had gained 22 pounds, and had never gotten to goal... I felt like I had tried everything, and this plan got the regain off, and I am now at goal, maintaining my bounce range through the holidays so far! I am not alone in that.

I read in some medical report in the last month that studies WLS on older patients (over 60). It challenged the belief that the older you are the more risks there are for complications... The study says that is not so. WLS in older patients have only minimally higher negative side effects... and all the positive side effects of younger patients. Hopefully Insurance companies and Drs. will take this into account when assessing older patients for surgery. The old standards are one reason I jumped into the process of applying for WLS before I was 60, didn't want to get caught in any old top age cut off!
    here is that study:

Hi all. Nice to see some "old" lovely faces. I'm back on the wagon here. It took me 3 years to get to goal, and about one to get back in the red.... but at 5+ years I still see myself as a work in progress with lots of success under my belt. I'm working at getting back to goal.... and if I could do it before, I can do it again... even if it takes three more years! I'll be checking back in here with updates.
