  1. So sorry to hear this! I so glad she made it to the ER. Send her our best wishes please. Take care of yourself too....
  2. It seems like I read someplaace that if once you are approved, you can have the surgery for up to 6 months after? I know... I am planing on getting it approved soon, but want to get it done in January... hope no problems with the insurance changing after the first.... I guess if health care reform takes WLS of the menu, Mexico will be making a lot more money! Another job gone over the boarder! Seriously, WLS saves health care money in the long run, it dosn't make sense to take it off the menu. ....just googled this and could find nothing about WLS being removed from benefits...
  3. You are going to be so fine! Next time you see your son, you will be well into starting your new healthy adventure! And in a few months you will be playing and maybe even having a little chineese food with him again. Congratulations!
  4. I havn't even had surgery yet and I'm planing of losing more than my stated goal! Your Drs commet was pretty funny! I will lose to 25bmi for my health, then the rest for vanity! Why not? If Im feeling well, who cares? Good luck to you.
  5. Coco! Very direct and heartfelt! I think this might just sum up how I will feel too. Food is my best friend in a way. I am isolated too. But this is an oppertunity to make more of your life! You don't want to have food as your best friend do you really? An acquaintance maybe... Time to take a class, learn how to paint or knit or sew or join a nature hiking club, or a dance class...learn how to use a new program on the computer, get a guitar.... what are your dreams from childhood? Its time to go for it. It is not easy to learn new skills, but after putting in the time, they get better, and you have stepped in an started creating a new you on the inside! Over two years ago I started taking bellydancing classes... when I was 50years old! Im still taking them, have meet a bunch of great gals and am getting a bit fit too. I still cant dance very well, but Im getting better and better. Im hoping when I get some weight off I can even do more. I love it!
  6. There could be a VERY interesting movie made about this sub culture... its so hidden, except a few inspirational people out front, and a few tragic star "failures."... Not that I think they are failures, such as Carnie... She has kept off around 100 lbs I believe. If everyone could tell their story and come out of the closet at once... perhaps there could be a revolution. So many people know the pain of overweight and obesity... I see the photos here, and there are so many beautiful faces and intelligent , emotional and moving stories. Fat prejudice is really a horrible and pernicious thing. So misunderstood.
  7. I almost see where I might feel like I am a fat person "passing for thin." after I lose weight. Anyone here feel that way? You may be thin, but don't feel like a "real" thin person? Whatever that is! The times I have lost weight in the past, I thought "I have it now, I can stay this way at last...I have found the trick" Then I would lose the trick and gain back the weight. So many overweight people have lost weight for a while, but the elusive 4% that keep it off with diet and exercise… or the few that lose weight taking thyroid meds or something like that… its really such a small amount of us that have been able to lose it and keep it off … until surgery. Surgery is the only time most of us have had to really sit in the thin body for a while. Do you ever feel like you are thin? or is there a little voice whispering " this wont' last" "the inside doesn't match the outside" or something like that. I am obese now. I have not gotten surgery yet. I will talk about that sooner or later I'm sure. But I cant really say I feel like I'm a fat person. I just feel like ME… and ME isn't quite as fat as I think I look like in the mirror. I look in the mirror sideways and cant 'believe that its me blobing out that way. I look at photos of me from the 70's when I weighed 145lbs and thought I was fat. Boy oh boy. I had NO ass and I thought I was fat. How can I expect to see my self as I really am with that kind of distortion!

I'm sure there is some sort of "lead water pipe" going on at this time in history... like when the Roman elite used lead pipes to carry drinking water to their homes, and went crazy from lead poisoning. What is the lead pipe that leads to obesity? Do you think there is one (or more?)
  9. The 25BMI must be the gauge of the 62%? I would think... So your Doc is ok with you losing more? I know I want to lose more than my highest normal bmi...
  10. Thats looking like a good idea! Thanks everyone... Ill let you know how it goes.
  11. My Dr's nurse called yesterday working on getting me a date... but she said the Dr was prepareing for RNY, not sleeve! YIKES! She sounded kind of put out when I said that his assistant Dr had recomended me for the sleeve OR RNY I and chose the sleeve. She will be talking to the main surgeon and will get back to me in 2 days. NERVOUS. She did say my insurance does cover the sleeve...so keep your fingers crossed for me will you all? Thanks.

  13. Alex my man, you have your work cut out for you! I tryed to show my husband the befor and after pics.. it was hard to navigate to see more than one pic in an album. It was the first time he was interested in seeing what I have been looking at, and got bored and left because I couldnt find the "after" pictures to go with the "Befores". Thanks, I know you are probably already losing sleep getting this thing together....
  14. I am in a strange place, I have to stay the same for over 3 months! I am right at the bottom of the BMI and have to stay the same to qualify... I am counting calories and trying not to lose any weight FOR A CHANGE!! I actually really want to lose now, reading all the posts here, I am inspired...the really hard part is I am not getting surgery until January... I have to stay the same through the holidays and vacation too.... It is interesting to see how many calories I need to stay the same... not that many... around 1600. Im trying to eat more Protein, no Water during eating or after, and getting in my Vitamins... Writing everything down.. Sometimes that donut or pototoe chip really calls my name. My Nut warned me, no binging. Eat healthy. I will be able to eat most anything I want later on, just small portions. Im trying not to say Goodbuy to my faves...the thought I wont be able to eat a huge pile of salad with everything on it makes me sad sometimes... chin up all! Relax, we will be OK....better than OK in the end.
  15. I am a vegetarian, so never did Atkins, except for about 3 days about 20 years ago. I have followed South Beach as a vegetarian, and found it was the only eating plan that really removed my "addiction" feelings towards food. This made it much easier to avoid eating too much. I think that how and how much we lose weight is more than just calories in calories expended... but that appears to still be the most believed theory in the scientific world...at this point...
  16. I know that the drill is protein first, low carb veg and fruits and if room, carbs. My question is, if you were to eat carbs then fruits /veg and protein last instead... wouldn't you lose the same amount if the calories were the same? ( I know we need the protein to stay full and get nutrients to keep the body healing and building, and high glycemic index carbs tend to make you hungry faster....) Im playing the devils advocate here....:scared0: ? Why should carbs make you stall if the calories are the same?
  17. I wear a size 12 shoe and a size 11 ring! I cant wait to have those numbers go down a bit. I may have to give some jewelry away, or perhaps sell it and get some new pieces!
  18. So many firsts! You and the kids will do fine! Don't forget to have a great time.. look out the window while your in the plane, its a great view! The next time you see it you will be starting a whole new part of your life.
  19. My husband and i were making jokes about the tube sock boobs last night... he said make sure to roll them up with the crease side down so you don't have strange horizontal cleavage!
  20. Well I certainly don't want any of those symptoms in my life... I already have a few. Bringing my numbers from 14 to 30 made me feel better (less muscle soreness after exercise and lifted a mild depression) I will continue to raise my D and see how it goes! I need a bigger pill box! Here is a good general article about VitD history... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-chameides/to-sun-or-not-to-sun-a-ra_b_740822.html
  21. cool! I just might have to try that!

So I am finishing up all my pre-op meetings, went to the Nut yesterday for my last meeting. She said even though I am all the way into menopause, I could possibly pop out of menopause and get pregnant during weight loss, and at my age there is a huge chance of having twins! Double birth control for a while! Nothing like dumping a bunch of estrogen out of your excess fat all at once to excite those little old eggs hanging around.:wink0:
  23. My Dr. even said that women do better on 40... and that lots of research is being done on VitD right now and it will be given more importance in the future. I'm not so sure about the VitD council... they are sponsored by and endorse a tanning bed company, Vitamin companies and a blood test company. They might be fine, but check other sources.
  24. So I woke up this morning craving chai. So I took one cup of 1% milk, added about 3/4 teaspoon of chai spice (from the Indian grocers) one packet of stevia and one good quality bag of decaf tea. I heated them until steaming but not boiling...and let it steep for a couple of minutes. I mixed one scoop of soy isolate in 3/4 cup of cold water until smooth. I then poured some of the tea mixture into the soy mixture, then all the soy mixture into the pot with the tea mixture. I stirred quickly over a low heat just to bring the temp up a bit without boiling. I can taste the soy a bit, but the chai spices and the sweetener and the milk really did the trick. YUM. experiment successfull :wink0: milk 10 gms protein soy 11 gms protein =21 gms protein!
