I think you men bypass and band- no sleeve mentioned. I was annoyed about that. In addition, they said she had the band and she had the bypass! There were lots of other inaccuracies about food regimens afterwards, etc. I was happy to see the cover feature and then very disappointed in the article.

This WILL get better! I was kept for an extra day because I could not drink. Set an alarm for every 10 or 15 minutes and drink as much as you can in small sips. The alarm really helps because time passes quickly and you wont always remember to do something that is so hard. Everything turned around for me on day 5- maybe you have some comfort in the offing! Your swelling will go down and drinking will be easier. I wont tell you that your difficulties are over but relax and know in a few months this will be a memory and you will be loving your sleeve!

Aside from the IV Water weight, which is different thing and will definitely leave within a few days, the other gains during stalls are so well explained in this article, which I believe really explains you are still losing even while stalled. I keep posting it in different threads because I think it is so great- it was originally posted in the Stall Busters thread I think.

When I first came home from my doctor talking about having WLS my husband was shocked- definitely. The surgery sounded extreme to him- and he ws scared of the possible complications. However, after I went to my first visit with the surgeon and I told my husband the surgeon could see me ending up in a wheelchair followed by an early death- that was all it took for my husband to climb on board and back me up.
It has been hard for him because the more I delve in to this and read all the stories here, and on You Tube, the more my lifelong pain has started to come out- causing things to be more emotional than usual around here! He has put up with all of it.
I realized just how much he supports me today when he came home from costco with a Magic Bullet kit including all kinds of attachments to help me during my purees and mushies.
    What a sweetheart!

Unfortunately I don't think it is that simple. Carbs like ice cream cake, Cookies, etc. slide right down through our sleeve rapidly and easily, leaving you hungry for more, and it will require work bot the lose enough of your excess weight and to maintain your weight loss if you do meet your goal. The fact they dissolve into liquid is the problem! The sleeve is not going to automatically guarantee that you lose weight and keep it off, unfortunately. My doctor, who has done the sleeve for nine years, says there is a window of from 18 months to 2 years for losing weight and that the people who are most likely to meet goal are those who count carbs strictly and keep their calorie intake low during that window of time. After that you have to be vigilant for the rest of your life because it is too easy to eat around the sleeve and gain weight again. Most of us have eating patterns involving emotions as as well as addiction to food and the people who know to really work the sleeve and learn how to deal with those emotions and addictions replacing them with healthy things are the ones who will maintain their weight for life. To me- and I am saying this because I care about you and everyone here- it is a warning sign to be anticipating the foods that may have helped you get to the point of needing to have drastic surgery such as the VSG. For me- I have to stay away from my trigger foods or I will soon be down the wrong path again. The sleeve is not a magic bullet that will take the wieght off because of your small stomach. Would that it was so easy!!!

Hey girl- what part of "You are required to do these forever" don't you understand? Don't you get that checking your latest update is an intrinsic part of my day?
That was what I have been mainly thinking until it turned to
Uh oh-are you ok? Are you passed out on the floor with a wine glass full of vicodin in your hand?
Now I have to look and see when you last posted...
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...
oh wait...could it be, no it could not possibly be that you , say, have a life?

I think you can just answer, as most everyone is asking the same thing about the details of your diet, exercise, etc.You don't need to thank everyone. I know if you reply to someone's post directly their post is quoted and then you type your reply below it, a I have. You seem to be quoting in one post and then answering in another. I also think there is a way to quote several people. I haven't learned it though!
In any case, I think you have explained a lot when you said too many carbs- I think everything I have researched has made it clear that you need to restrict carbs a lot to really lose. My doctor, in fact, says he has never seen anyone lose all their goal weight without doing so. He explains that you think of it as having two gas tanks- one with carbs and sugar, the other your excess fat. When the carb tank is empty you wont switch to the fat tank unless youput very little into the carb tank. If you put carbs all the time your body will shut down to use what carbs you give it and wont reach over to the fat tank.
The main issue is that most of us are addicted to carbs- that is why we are at this point- needing an extreme tool to help us deal with it. That craving is still going to crop up and we still need our resolve and will to get it behind us and keep it from undermining our progress. The tiny tummy just helps us by making us full a lot faster. It is a tool- we are still having to do the work.
The main things I have seen in common among the people who seem to do really well are 1. drink your water- 64 ounces plus 2. Eat your protein- 60-80 grams a day, before anything else 3. restrict your carbs- 40 or under (maybe more taking in to account Fiber content of some bettter carbs like fruit and vegetables) 4. exercise.
In addition, almost everyone stalls during the first month as far as I can tell! Furthermore, sometimes a problem develops where you are actually eating too little and if you increase your Protein , make sure of your Water, and eat a bit more, it can get you losing again. You can fall into a trap thinking you are eating so very little, - why aren't you losing? and your body is just shutting down into starvation mode. You need to show your body you are in this for the long haul- nourishing your body with Protein, and healthy carbs with Fiber and nutrients, keeping hydrated, and making your bod work it work it work it. Then I think you will see that loss you so want.
It might be a good idea to train yourself to a new addiction like exercise!
Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I have to say that I'm worried about you. First you posted you are having second thoughts about surgery you already had and wish you could gulp your drinks again, and are "freaking out" Now you are wondering whether you will be able to eat burgers, hotdogs, pizza, and wings. I know you are 18 years old (as is my son) and that these questions make a lot of sense in light of that.
The thing you need to remember is that you can gain weight with a sleeve too. This is a tool you have been given- but you need to do the work- especially so early in your sleeve history. For one thing, your sleeve has to heal, and the 60 - 80 grams of Protein help with that. In addition you don't just have weight fall off of you - you do need to think about what you eat, get your Protein, drink your Water. and especially take your Vitamins. If you push to eat the same junk you have always eaten as soon as you can your weight loss will be slow, maybe even stall, and you can indeed gain it back.
I know I always answer your posts in a motherly way but you are only 18 and I think you need to really pay attention to how you handle this healing and your life from now on. I especially worry about the nutritional problems you could run in to if you don't pay a lot of attention to your nutrition, take the Vitamins and make sure you don't head in to malnutrition. The reduced gastric acid due to the smaller stomach mean your vitamins, especially your Iron, are not absorbed as well from your food and you really need to pay attention to keeping up with that. especially so early in your life. You can really suffer if you get malnourished, Vitamin and mineral wise.
Do you have a good support system around you of family who can keep you paying attention to the right choices and to your nutrients? I would really hate to see you have had this serious surgery and end up gaining all the weight you lose back for not having worked through your relationship with food. The same emotions and impulses that got you into obesity will still be here and it is important for you to work through these issues so that you get the weight off and keep it off. I assume you do want that! I want that for you.
I don't want to seem like I am lecturing you- but I do worry. There are some basic things about the surgery you have had that you seem not to know or understand. I hope you have a great doctor and nutritionist too.

From what I have read, a lot of it is about letting the staple line heal well- and I will err on the side of conservative to hep that happen. I figure giving that time without stressing the incision area is worth it for a short while in prep for a long life of healthy (tiny) stomach!
