  1. I was sleeved on Dec 14th 2011 which makes me 4 months post VSG. I have lost 65 pounds! I eat basically anything I want, but only a very small amount. I don't eat fried foods. The reason is because the grease will make me vomit. I had 2 fried shrimp and they came up. I loved fried foods before surgery, but I don't miss them anymore. My Aunt is over a year & 1/2 out of VSG & enjoys her 4 fried shrimp on occasion. My tipical day is as follows: Breakfast- protein shake EAS from Walmart pre made boxes are the best! Snack- almonds (about 5-6). lunch- chicken salad scoop. snack- yogurt or cheese. dinner- small amount of what I cooked for my family. sweet tooth? Cocoa almonds from Sam's Cub (sweet & protein) This sounds like a small amount & boring food but I just don't even care about food anymore. I eat to give my body fuel, not just cuz it tastes good. I have 2 small children and we are so much more active. We ride bikes, go for walks, and live outside playing. I owed that to my children and myself. I am so happy to have had this weight loss surgery. Bad things- Hmmmm not too many. I do miss some foods, but when they are in front of me, I have no problem refusing them. I can't consume wine anymore, it's too strong for my stomach. I have had cocktails, but only one per event. Hate taking so many vitamins, but it's important to stay healthy. I have mild heartburn, but I take a daily prilosec and it's gone. Great things- I feel amazing! Full of energy and happiness. When my hubby hugs me.....my breasts touch him first, not my old big belly, I can go into a regular store to buy clothes, not the plus size side. I'm in a 14 now. Men smile at me, open doors, and let me go when sitting in traffic. I don't drink 6 sodas a day and don't even miss them, My hubby is calling me sexy again, I feel girlie. I am wearing more jewery, and fasionable clothes. I can go on forever. This is truely a great tool that I choose. I have had NO hair loss!! God, please don't let me lose my hair. Although, it's VERY common to lose. It will grow back. I take 2 biotin daily just in case it starts to come out. I attend monthly support groups at my surgeon's hospital. If you have not had VSG yet, start the support groups NOW!! If anyone has questions, please ask. I'll answer any of them. Even the ones that are hard to ask someone. Oh, did I mention sex with my hubby is soooo much more fun! I'm married and I can say that right?... Happy, Thinner, & Happy (did I mention happy?) Misty
  2. Mini-gil, I take 2 Biotin a day instead of one. Try that. I only weigh in on Tuesdays and Iost 4 pounds!! I love Tuesdays! I am so rockin' this sleeve!

    My Update....

Awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work!
  4. Try won ton broth. Ask the Chinese place not to use MGS.
  5. I understand your pain. While everyone else was saying how they were not hungry post op.....I was at home 8 days post op hungry like you. Here my suggestions to help. Try Chinese won ton broth. Order with NO MSG, It's yummy & different than chicken broth in a can...yuck! Always sip on liquids. Have a huge crystal light or tea or something to constantly be drinking. I drink Nature's best Isopure vanilla. I hate shakes too, but this is not that bad. I use skim milk, not Water.....big difference. I buy this stuff online called "Fit Nut" it's a low fat, suger free, low calorie Peanut Butter mix to add to your shakes. As many times as we can say "hang in there" we all mean it cuz we were right where you are. I'm 7 weeks post op and I am so much happier. I promise it will get better. ((HUGS)) You, Me, & all of these sleeve sisters/brothers CAN DO THIS!!!

    Four Weeks out...What to eat?

Hi Ladies, I am 5 weeks out and right with you. I am on mushie/soft foods stage and I am careful, but have been eating some yummy things lately. I was getting bored with yogurt, Jello, pudding, & cream of wheat. In fact, at this point, those things I don't really eat anymore cuz after 5 weeks, it makes me sick to see it. Here is my sample day....please post yours as well. Breakfast- coffee (1 cup), scrambled egg ( 2 bites- having hard time with eggs sticking) Snack- Protein shake 25 grams of protein. Lunch- turkey lunch meat (small amount) & string cheese. snack- laughing cow cheese & multigrain craker (saltines or zesty) Dinner- last night was home made butter Beans & turkey sausage. (sooo mushie & yummy). In between these meals, I drink tea, diet cranberry juice, & coffee. If I snack it will be a popsicle, cheese (100 calorie packs), or fruit (melon). I also eat: Soups, beans, crab meat, & Protein Bars from my weight.com Good luck ladies. I had a stall too at 3 weeks, but at 27 pounds down, I am starting to feel a weight loss. I can't wait for people to start saying " Have you lost weight"? So I can say YES!! YES!! Not sure how many calories, but my guess is it's low. I try to get 50 grams of protein a day. smoothie King is a treat too. 45 grams of protein in the gladiator. I get mine with bananna & blueberries

Eating Only 3 Times a Day and No Snacking...

Tiff, What are cheese crisp chips? I miss chips so much. I've had the rice cake chips and those are good.
  8. I am almost 4 weeks post op and I am going to call my doctor first thing Monday morning. Let me make that clear. I am worried and hope everything is fine. I have had a clear liquid coming from my belly button for 2 days. I remember my nurse telling me at discharge that it is okay for some clear drainage. She said if it smells foul (which mine does not) or the liquid is pink or red, then that is a reason to call the office. It could be infection. My question is: Have any of you experienced this in the first few weeks post op? ~Misty
  9. Thanks for replying. It is not shower Water. I have cleaned out my belly button very well since the surgical tape came off. This is from my incision that is inside my belly button. I wonder why they leak/drain? And it's not much, but it some and I am concerned. I wonder if I am doing too much. I have a 1 & 3 yr old children. I try not to pick them up, but come on. I have to sometimes. I am also a massage therapist and wonder if the 3 massages I did this past week was too much for me too soon.

    Why am I hungry?

I was hungry then too. I was so worried because a lot of people on here said "I'm not even hungry since being sleeved". I thought "Did he really remove 85% of my stomach"?...ha. Now, on the mushy stage, I'm much more satisfied. Sometimes, I feel like I eat 3 bites and I am full and other times, I finish my serving. Protein shakes keep me full. Try a Gladiator from smoothie King (when you can). I just increased my liquids. I always have a drink (light cranberry juice) on hand and I sip, sip, sip...all day. Plus, I chew a lot of gum. Hang in there! Good luck
  11. I am 3 weeks post op and just started with heartburn 2 days ago. I can't swallow my prilosec. It's a capsule pill. I tried once and it hurt all the way going down. It says do not crush or open, so I just haven't taken it. How is yours? Chewable? liquid?....
  12. Becca, I know how hard this stage is. I am on my 3rd week post op. I could not stand broth, but I got the won ton soup from the Chinese place and said NO MSG! That was such a treat. The containers are huge and you can sip on just the broth for a couple of days. I am on mushie stage and that is easier. I just don't want to take in too many calories. Good luck & hang in there
  13. I am 17 days post op and I deal with hunger. Although, I must say that 3 or 4 bites of something and I am full. I want to move a little quicker with the things that I eat and I do. I just see how some of the other people on here were able to have mushies on their 3rd day post op. I am on the mushy stage and I struggle with what to eat. I can not have meat yet. I made a cauiflower Soup and mashed cauiflower (like potatoes...less carbs). It was good, by 2 days of eatng that and I am bored. I also made 15 bean soup in my crock pot and cooked it all day so it's mushy. Then I added alittle bit of greek yogurt to it and that was good. I get about 40 grams of Protein a day, but I need to get more in. I HATE protein shakes! They all taste yucky.....but I have to get them down. I get about 2 down a day....not enough. What are you eating in a day? Fluids, Protein shakes, Soups??? I am struggling with some heart burn and that sucks too. Good luck! We will be eating more foods each week. I do too cheat. I've had some hersey kisses...maybe 4 since surgery...bad I know, but I'm getting sick of pudding
  14. I'm 5 days post op and this liquid diet is killing me. I'm so sick of broth that I could puke when I smell it. Everything allowed is so sweet. Sweet Crystal light, sweet Jello, & sweet popcikles. Ugh!! I want something different. I even made a small amount of whey Protein powder, but that's sweet too. I'm not supposed to have Protein shakes until day 7. It still hurts to swallow. It's better than 2 days ago, but still sore. Plus, I had a hernia removed during surgery. So I am not sure how much pain is coming from that. Didn't even know they would just "repair" that. I didn't even know that I had one. I feel like I am healing slower that others on here. Plus, I am hungry! Need support.
  15. So many people go through this surgery with no problems that I think we all fail to remember that this is a serious surgery. Stories like this make us stop and realize the decision to have this surgery take some guts. Praying for you & your situation.
  16. I am glad to report that I am 8 days post op and doing great! I have no discomfort swallowing except if I drink a big sip. But, I'm really feeling good. I have moved to creamed soups which are very nice. Can't wait to have mushies.

    Need Some Help

My NUT said grits are "expandables" and that makes them a NO NO. They will not hurt your stomach, but she said they have "better" choices out there. Each NUT & Doctor are different. That's why I love this forum. We get to learn from each other. Try cream of wheat instead Oh and she also said corn is a NO NO. It does not digest properly. As we all know cuz you poop it out whole
  18. 6 days post op was a turning point for me. I felt very little pain & discomfort in my belly area. I took off my bandages and washed my stomach with dial soap. I drove and was able to get some things done. It felt real nice. I do not have discomfort when I swallow anymore. I guess that was some swelling from surgery. The only thing hard was it was the first day since surgery that I did not take a nap and I felt so run down around 4:00. I know my body is still healing, but my mind is ready to be back to normal. The post op diet is tough. I didn't even think before surgery how hard it would be to do this diet. After surgery, you still feel hunger. You can still smell your family cooking dinner, while you are drinking broth. It's much harder than I imagined. I went to Craker Barrel to do some holiday shopping in the store, and the smell of country cooking was almost unbearable. Gosh, to just have some country veggies and a bisket. Then, I get home and think "what have I done".? This thought does go through my head. It's a normal thought because I ask people that I know if they thought this when they were 6 days post op and..............YES. It is normal to think that so close after a life changing surgery. But, I must say that everyone who has had WLS that I know does not regret it one bit. I have yet to find someone who has told me that they wish they would not have done their surgery. I start Protein shakes this week and I can alrealy say YUCK! Why does everything with protein have to taste horrible? I meet with my NUT today and I hope she can help. This morning I am 7 days post op. Ready for some mushies, but can't have that for 2 weeks. Doing this surgery the week before Christmas is HARD !! I made my Christmas goodies lastnight and didn't even lick one finger. With all said. I am going to get through this. I am going to be more healthy, happy, & thinner (of course)
  19. Thanks everyone.....gosh yall are so supportive I am on Clear liquids for 1 week. Then, week 2 is Protein shakes. Week 3 is creamed soups. I have tried different Protein Shakes. The stores have either samples or packets to try before buying the whole container. Also, my Vitamin store said he holds protein parties monthly. You can taste shakes, bars, & drinks for free. How cool is that? Ask your local nutritional stores if they do that. Yall are so funny. We are like crack heads.....but addicted to food tastes. Licking fingers in Peanut Butter jars, drinking pickle juice. Hey, do what gets you throught this and so will I. We all will do great with this surgery.
  20. It's amazing how different doctors do different post op diets. I am 7 days post op and start shakes today. I do liquids & shakes for 1 week, then move to creamed soups. I can't have mushies for 2 more weeks.....yikes! I want more! I see my NUT today and since I feel fine and hungry, I hope she let's me try something early.

    I am sleeved and alive!

I know how hard it can be having kids. I have a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old. My husband is great with help too. Most people I know had this surgery when their children were older and could take care of themselves. I'm 7 days post op and I feel your pain. Just remember that everyone on here keeps saying that it gets better, so let's believe and try to stay focused on getting our fluids in and staying positive. Congrats & Good luck!

    Need Some Help

I completely undersatnd how you are feeling. The liquid stage is hard. I think grits are a NO NO. Try a protein shake or cream soup strained. It's probably better to advace to the next phase of post op diet than to try something that is not allowed. Try chewing sugar free gum. Hang in there. I know....I know. It's soooo hard for me too.

    SLEEVED this morning

I was sleeved 6 days ago and had a rough recovery. Today is the first day that I am able to drive & run errands. Be careful and remember that you have a very large cut/stape line on the inside of your body. Rest, drink fluids, & walk around. Take care & best of luck

    Post-op food checklist

I was instructed to do Clear liquids the day before surgery. Clear broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles, crystal light, Water. Then, clear liquids for 7 days post op. Good luck!
  25. I had the gastric sleeve on Tuesday Dec 14th. I'm 3 days post op. Every time I swallow Water, crystal light, & broth I can feel it scraping down my throat down to stomach. Did anyone feel this? I have blurred vision also. Did anyone experience that? My bandages are ichy too. Were yours? I had a hernia repaired at the same time as sleeve surgery. I wonder if some of my pain is from that???
