It's the pH of our stomach is changed by the PPI. I can now eat super spicy stuff, but I had to stick with mild jalapeno peppers, and sauces until I was at about 6 months out. Are you taking a probiotic? If not, I would get on one. Dump it in your protein shake or mix it with some salad dressing that is more of an alkaline base like instead of an acidic based food.
I staying on my PPI. My surgeon and PCP agree that the risks for my age group, and health at this point are extremely minimal. I ate a pop tart last night, and was miserable with my first bout of reflux. I woke up in my sleep coughing up crap. Least to say, pop tarts are off my list. I have no idea why my body rejected it, but I was in misery for a good hour.
