  1. My list mimics most others but the one thing I really want is to be able to wear my original engagement and wedding ring. I weighed 145 when I got married 27 years ago. I have not been able to wear these rings since 1986. These were bought when my husband was in the military stationed in Germany-just a simple set he bought at the base store but they cannot be duplicated here in the states. I am now down to 168 and able to get the engagment ring on but not yet able to wear both bands together. Hopefully with another 10 lbs.

WTF do I wear to this wedding?!

I was at Dress Barn which also has plus sizes clothes, they are also available online. I have a wedding in June to attend and my daughters in October. They have some cute ones right now. Good Luck!

    Allergy Meds post op????

I am on prescription singular for my allergies. I have been on them for over 2 years and I was able to continue them after surgery-sleeved Dec 1st. I can tell when I don't take them on a daily basis, I wake up very congested. Allergy season here in AL is year round so I take them daily. Check with your Doctor if there is any restrictions regarding any others OTC meds.

    MY PRE-OP HELL

I also understand. I had to do the sleep study and was diagnosed with a mild case of sleep apnea. I had to be 2 week compliant on my machine before the doctor scheduled surgery. I also had to take my machine to the hospital the night of surgery. After one month after surgery, I returned the machine. I had already stopped snoring. So just do what you have to do to get the surgery, it will be worth it. Don't give up!

    baby food

I am surprised that you are already on food-even baby food. My husband was sleeved on Wednesday and he has 7 days liquid before starting a puree stage. My doctor (we had surgery with 2 different officces and hospitals due to insurance requirements) had me on a 14 day liquid diet before the puree stage. I had looked at baby food but I did not feel that it had enough protein for me to get my daily allowance. Besides I thought it was expensive when I could buy real food and just blend it myself to the right consistency. Good luck and welcom to the forum. You will find a lot of helpful information and a great support group.
  6. Every dr and insurance requirements may differ. I had my surgery at 7 am on a Wednesday and was home by 10:30 the next morning. My husband had his surgery around noon this past wednesday and we left the hospital by 2 pm on thursday. Most of the time it is a 23 hour stay unless there are complications. The 23 hours usually start when you get to a room. Good Luck.
  7. My doctor did not require labs at my 3 month but will at my 6 month. I knew that I had to also follow up with my pcp for diabetic and cholestral. I actually have the lab slip from my surgeon to give to the pcp who can add his own labs as I did not want to have duplicate test done with both offices. These are the codes and test names 1458-CMP (14) 1160-Magnesium 1095-Phosphorus 1145-Triclycerides 9506-Vit A 9353-Vit E 2010-CBC w diff 1140-Chol 1316-FE&Tibc 1319-Vit B12 1318-Folic Acid Territin, Thiamine I know that I have to have my AIC check for diabetes. I have not taken any meds for that since surgery. Good Luck.

Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Too be honest, I did not think I would make this. I am suprised I am this close, I have had several stalls and lucky to lose one pound a week. But I think I just might make this. It is going to help that my husband just got his sleeve done on Wednesday and now we will not have anything bad in the house as he is starting his journey now. Sleep Study -- check

I had to do the sleep study because the doctor required it. I ended up doing 2 nights as the first it was a mild case so they did not put on the mask so I had to do another test night with the mask. Of course each test cost $1500. My doctor required 2 week compliance which meant a min of 4 hrs a night with at least 70% compliance. I got my cpap in November. I had surgery Dec 1st and returned my machine by the end of December. I had already stopped snoring with the lost of 20 lbs. My husband's also had a sleep study and I think everyone is diagnosed with sleep apnea so they can charge insurance the machine and supplies. He had his surgery on Wednesday and we returned his machine today. Neither of our cases were severe or life threatening that we really needed a machine. Good Luck and know that unless you have other medical issues most likely you can discontinue at some point when you have lost enough weight.

    Had sleeve this morning

Congrats. I did not own a smart phone at my time of surgery but I was feeling good by the evening. My husband was sleeved on Wednesday and he is doing great. He is already excited and amazed on how it is already working for him.
  12. Surgery went well for Chris. I am making him walk the halls already. Leak test early tomorrow then hopefully can start liquids and then hope to leave by late afternoon.

    Flexible Spending Accounts

as with most flexible spending accounts they need the explanation of benefits. So you will need to have it submitted to insurance to get the denial and then forward the denial to flexible spending.
  14. Congrats....this is definately a quick turnaround. Submitted to Insurance on Thursday. Approved on Friday and schedule for Wednesday. Not fair that you only have a 2 day liquid diet and I had to suffer a full week. But you will soon be enjoying the effects of losing weight. We will keep everyone posted.
  15. Been there, done that. When I first started eating chicken, I blended it along with a few peices of chicken skin. It was sooooo good after being on liquids and mushies for so long. I have now find that I really don't care so much for the skin like I use to and actually remove it if we had splurged and bought fried chicken. I have found a lot of the bad things I use to eat, just does not taste as good anymore or I am no longer interested it as much. That meal is over with so just focus on the next and eating healthy again. Remember protein first!. Hang in there.
  16. You will be fine. I completely understand. My husband will have his surgery on April 13th and it is a 2 hour drive for us. Not sure yet if we will get a hotel the night before as he does not have to be at the hospital until 8:30 but with Atlanta rush hour traffic we would have to leave around 4 in the morning as we lose an hour crossing the border from AL to GA. Insurance will only reimburse up to $50 a night and there is no way there is a hotel that will only be $50 a night in downtown Atlanta. Good Luck and see you on the loser bench real soon!.

    progression of foods

wow.....that is pretty drastic. My surgeon/dietician was after surgery 2 weeks liquid, then 2 weeks soft, 2 weeks semi-regular. At the end of 6 weeks we can eat any foods as tolerated but in much smaller quantities. As for Protein powders, we found matrix brand which we can pick up at The Vitamin Shoppe or at the hospital Apothecary. BWT...I think most dieticians are evil. Good Luck.
  18. I loved the SF Caramel and SF Raspberry. At Christmas time they had a SF Gingerbread which satisfied my craving for gingerbread cookies. I was able to get mine at Cost Cutter World Market and also the Walmart Neighbor Grocery Store. There so many more flavors to try and I may just order some from the website directly.
  19. Congrats on your decision for the sleeve. I was sleeved on Dec 1st and have no regrets at all. My husband will be sleeved on April 13th. Does your doctor office have a support group? If not, then you definately have one here! Don't be shy and post any and all questions. Search prior forums as many questions most likely have already been answered in the past. This is a great group of people and we are here to support each other. Good Luck!
  20. My doctor prescribed liquid nexium for after surgery-due to a change of insurance the first of the year, after 2 months he said I could use Prilose OTC. I know there are generics but I found that I did not have as much effectiveness with other generics. In the Sunday papers there is a $3 coupon good for one month and they come out monthly. This brings the cost down to $21 at Walmart which is just a $2 more then the generic. My doctor wants me on this for 6 months after surgery. I did have some acid reflux prior to surgery and they did do a big hiatal hernia repair. I have not had any episodes since surgery. Good luck.

    Do sleevers vomit?

I have always had a "nervous" stomach. I would vomit starting out on a trip, or if I would be extremely nervous. I did not have any episodes since I was sleeved Dec 1st until tonight for the first time. Basically I ate too fast, took too big of bites and did not chew properly. I started to feel uncomfortable in my chest and should have stopped but I took another few bits. I learned my lesson. It was not a full through up but I did have the "foamies" and spit up a few times then I felt a little better. My husband and I went for a walk and with a few more burps, the episode was over. I definately do not want to repeat that experience. Everyone is different but I think the main thing is take your time eating, small bites and chew properly. As for introducing new foods, my Nut said to take a bite and then wait about 5 minutes or so and if stays down well, continue but if it upsets you. Wait a few days or week and then try again. I have no regrets and now wait anxiously for my husband to have his done-just approved today for April 13.
  22. My employer added a new twist to bariartric surgery this year and that it can only be done at a "Institute of Quality". What that means is my husband cannot use the local doctor and hospital that I used in December and we will now have to travel to either Huntsville, AL (115 miles) or to Atlanta, GA (148 miles) to have surgery. Has anyone had their surgery at either Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, AL or Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Who was your doctor and would you recommend them? Thanks for any insight. The local hospital is suppose to be submitting their paperwork to become credential. They are already a Center of Excellance with Medicare and Blue Distinction with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. But my insurance is Aenta and their is "Institute of Quality". Since we may not want to wait until they get approved-who knows how long this will take, we are looking at all of our options.

    Do they know???

I actually did my 6 month diet with my PCP. My surgeon required a release from him before surgery. I will be following up with him next month so he can add any labs he wants to the surgeons office so I don't have to be drained twice and pay for duplicate test. Good Luck!
