Is 40g of protein a day enough?
WOW! That's weird. Protein Drinks are almost universally accepted. What's their reasoning?

Have you ordered.....
Should be no problem. I've ordered it just like that a few times. I usually just state "I've had stomach surgery and can't eat much, I want a plain burger patty (with cheese) on a plate, NO sides, NO fixings" . If someone at the table orders fries I may mooch 2 or 3 of them too. I order chicken breasts like this too - "Just a plain grilled chicken breast on a plate, no sides, no trimmings".

Just wondering???
There was a post a while back claiming someone met a sleever from 4 years ago and claimed that she was fat again. It will take someone with a little more patience than I have to search for it with the crappy search on this forum. The poster claimed to have met someone who was sleeved 4 years ago who lost all if not most all of their excess weight and then gained it back. As I remember, not much was mentioned about their eating habits. I suspect they started gobbling down high fat, high caloric foods again and undid what they worked so hard to take off. ANYONE can gain weight if you "persevere" enough and basically force yourself to eat all the time. I also wonder if their sleeve size was the same as we have today. Another post mentioned that they used a lot larger size initially and it led to too little restriction.

Pressed my luck and got hit with a whammy!
Not sure what's worse, the waterfall of saliva gushing down your throat, the feeling you're going to puke or my heart pounding so hard I feel like I'm going to pass out. I wish I could say its only happened once but I've over done it three times and nearly so a few more times. The difference between FULL and OMG IT HURTS! is like you say, about 2 bites.

Just Joining-So Many Questions!!!
Very little actual pain here, a LOT of nausea though. I also wish I'd of paid attention to a few warnings about Calcium carbonate (Tums). I had a few acid problems and was popping Tums to quell it. Ended up having calcium kidney stones - ouch! I was well informed, I studied out pretty much every aspect of the surgery. I just wish I'd of known how WELL it would work. Well we were all excited, just be sure to examine ALL the factors and make sure you are not just making an emotional decision. Make sure your finances, insurance, post operative care, time away from work, post operative responsibilities, significant others expectations, etc are all addressed.

Choices
Didn't want a plastic gizmo floating around in my gut and didn't want my plumbing rerouted with the subsequent lifetime malabsorbtion and dumping problems. The sleeve just seemed so logical and simple.

Aretha Franklin
Well if she did have bariatric surgery I wish her well, and if she didn't I wish her well too and will certainly keep her in my thoughts that she overcomes her health issue totally. I've been a fan of the Blues Brother's movie for years now and catch it whenever it airs. One of my favorite scenes (besides the Nazi's getting run off the bridge ) is Aretha's scene doing Think!

Fill me in?
Well we eat so little for so long - maybe a year or more - and lose weight so fast it is easy to get Vitamin deficient. For the most part your typical modern (especially American) diet is chocked full of natural and fortified Vitamins that additional vitamins are pretty much a waste of money. Quite often most of the dosage goes right out in urine. Someone once said that Americans have the most expensive piss on the planet Being sleeved we are not eating a lot of the fortified processed stuff and not enough other stuff to get a full load of vitamins naturally. I say that they are cheap insurance. One thing that IS true is that it is cheap and easy to take Multivitamins, Iron and calcium citrate supplements, what is EXPENSIVE and costly health wise is to acquire a disease due to vitamin deficiency. By the time the disease has reared it's ugly head and made itself known with symptoms you are well past the point that just simply starting to take the required vitamin can fix it. Once the disease sets in it usually required more costly treatment perhaps even hospitalization to cure it - and it may leave lasting if not permanent damage to your health. Again, it's cheap insurance and could save you monetarily and health wise to take them.

What Can I eat at the movie theater?
Boy, they tried to search me once for "snuck in" food and I raised such a ruckus I thought they would throw me out. I stuck to my guns and they eventually let me pass. This sucks and there is NO WAY IN HELL this is legal or even fair. Last time I went we bought a small popcorn and split it. I know it's high cal but you probably won't eat much of it. Get a diet soda to hit the sweet tooth and you should be fine.

FRUSTRATED!!
Yep, it happens. The body has several mechanisms to conserve energy and therefore NOT consume fat stores. Water and solid waste retention are two other factors to consider too. You might not lose any more or very little. You've done great though by losing 8 pounds in 7 days. You will resume loss post surgery.

Drum Roll PLEASE
Congrats! Feels good doesn't it?

Ut Oh
Yeah, for me the "warning signs" are pretty hard to recognize. I've had the sensation a few times and definitely did NOT like it so I now err on the side of caution and stop eating when I get even the slightest sensation of "full". A few times when I really DID need to eat the whole portion because I was not getting enough cals I just stopped and left the food set for 10+ minutes or more and took a few sips of Water. For those of you who have not experienced it, it is just awful. One or two bites of food - especially dense stuff like chicken and my heart starts to pound out of my chest. The waterfall starts down my throat and the urge to vomit gets intense. I get very anxious and my stomach seems to be ready to explode. I have to sit very still till at least the vomiting sensation is gone and then get up and walking around seems to help the rest subside. NOT fun!

Psych evaluation time frame?
A friend of mine at work is going through the process of getting approved for bariatric surgery. She's already had her initial surgical consult and just called a psych office to set up an appointment for her psych eval. She was told the evaluation will take - are you ready for this - TWO AND A HALF HOURS! WTH do they "evaluate" for two and a half hours? What's everyone else's experience? BTW: I had surgery in Mexico and my "psych eval" consisted in filling out a form online of maybe 20 questions. Shebang! I was "qualified" and got a call the next day asking when I wanted to have the surgery.

Tape Measure?
I think you mean a TICKER, like what I have in my sig. If so here is a tutorial that LilMissDiva did a while back : http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/13516-ticker-tutorial-for-vst-lbt-with-pictures/ Someone ought to make it STICKY so everyone can easily find it.

Swallowing Pills
Me neither, had some HUGE pain pills I brought home from the operation. I had a bit of trepidation swallowing them as they actually upset my stomach pretty bad and tasted just awful. I bit the bullet and tossed them back as far as I could swallowed a gulp of water and sat on the bed for a few minutes for the nausea to pass. No physical restrictions simply mental.

Am I stretching my sleeve???
Over 45 minutes you have passed the stuff you first ate and are making room for more, NO I don't think you are stretching your sleeve. If you can wolf down 4 ozs in 10 minutes then force down more then YES you would be stretching it and I've yet to see anyone who can do that so soon pre-op, it typically hurts like hell and makes your heart feel like it's going to jump out of your chest.

Prepared liquid protein drink (EAS,SLIMFAST)
I agree with BBJ above, CLEAR liquids PRE-OP just not make much sense, maybe the DAY before or so but an entire regiment of days or weeks is funny. I was told eat anything that can be sucked through a straw without changing it e.g. no pizza put through a blender

B-12 DOSAGE
I took an OTC sublingual tablet. Got it at Walmart. Several dosages are available, start with the ~1000 mcg and when visiting the doctor they should run a standard blood panel for Vitamins and minerals. You can adjust your dosage up or down as indicated by the results. B12 is relatively benign and is Water soluble - which means the excess is easily flushed out by the kidneys. However nearly EVERYTHING can have toxic side effects if taken in excess, including, oddly enough, water itself. I started out taking the 1000 mcg dosage daily and dropped back to every other day when it was tested high. I've since dropped it entirely since I've been taking EmergenC Vitamin C drink to lower my urines PH level (more acidic) to help prevent kidney stones. It appears to be working as I've not had a kidney stone incident for over a month now.

FOOD DIARY??
I'd say if it's a prerequisite that they want then go ahead and do it. It can be as simple as a piece of paper with the Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Snacks you eat on it. I would bet they also want to track your caloric count too so you may have to pick up a pocket calorie book - which will probably have a diary built in to it. There are scads of online ones: https://encrypted.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=food+diary&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq= I use http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ as it also records exercise too.

Ghrelin and sleep and heat regulation
Yes, I thought the same but I took a few blood sugar studies, one a month long and I always tended to be hypoglycemic rather than hyper. This HAD been the norm for decades of my life, and my mother even noted as an infant I would be bathed in sweat and demand drinks all the time. SOMETHING weird was going on and it seems to be "over" now.

Income tax
For USA taxes YES, but only if your medical expenses OVER 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. Here is a site that has a lot of tips - a good read: http://www.bankrate.com/finance/money-guides/maximizing-your-medical-deductions-1.aspx Remember you are not getting a tax rebate, you are just not paying taxes on the amount you spent out of pocket for medical needs over and above 7.5 of your adjusted gross income. And that's only if you can use the long form and itemize.

Ghrelin and sleep and heat regulation
Well since Ouroborous reopened this topic I'll chime in again. Since the last post of mine above it's been hot here a few times and I hardly perspired at all. I've worked out in our wellness center, walked a few miles - which is amazing since previously walking to the john and back was an accomplishment before WLS, but I digress. I've ridden the stationary bike for 30+ minutes at medium resistance at full resistance for over 5 minutes, done weight training on various machines and hardly broken a sweat. Mop my forehead and the rest dries out in a few minutes. SOMETHING has changed drastically since as I pointed out above I used to sweat profusely at ANY body weight almost ALL the time. I have had a fan in my office (third one actually, wore out 2) that I would run ALL day EVERY day and still sweat in an ACd office at 75 degrees. Not any more, have not turned the fan on once since my operation. Last week it was in the 80's and we opened the windows and the doors. I had to close the window nearest me because I was cold! YES, I'd MUCH rather have this than be a sweathog again. You can always put something on to warm up, you can only take so much off to cool down Perhaps my sodium intake? Carbs? Who knows. I just hope it lasts forever!

Interesting article on BMI
According to the BMI charts most American football players and pro wrestlers are obese if not morbidly obese. Yeah, just call one of them a "fat ass" and wake up in the hospital. That's probably the extreme but I've always taken BMI recommendations with a grain of salt. Problem is you can be denied insurance or have higher rates because of them. When I drop below 200 I look thin, really painfully thin. I look good at 220. So when I reach that I am going to consider it a compete success. If I drop lower and don't look like skeletor that's great, otherwise I will be happy. Pre-surgery I was asked to pick a goal weight between the limits on the BMI chart for a six footer male, 160 to 190 - so I choose 180 as an arbitrary goal. 190 was probably more realistic.

Well, something's wrong!
Hope it's just a bug or something harmless. Best to you!
