  1. Hi

Thanks for all the info you post here. They are really helpful.

  2. Hi Sheila

    How are you doing?

I am wondering what kind of pre-op diet or recomendations you had to follow and for how long. It seems to vary a lot.

    Dr. R. Kelly

I did some research beyond the references here. he is certified and recertified as a bariatric surgeon in mexico, speaks english, works in a hospital, has large experience, he has all his info in a detailed resume and you can check them. I am confident in my choice of doctor and hospital. I am going to have VSG in Feb 7 with him.
  4. I had the same after a surgery in the past. The burning would come and go and it felt really like a real burn. The doctor also mentioned the nerves that are hurt during the procedure. It started to improve fter a few weeks and completely disapeared after 4 months.

    B12 Injections

I once was on a very well know diet Dr. Bernstein and we had to take B12 and B6 injections 3x per week. It was in the fat in the belly, just a small needle similar to the ones for diabetes. Just a bit of stinging when the liquid went in. The injections boost your mood and energy and make you feel good. That was the only diet I could actually follow (low carb, low calorie) in the past. My allergist gives B12 injections in a accupunture point close to the wrist and he inserts just the tip of the needle, no pain at all and immediate boost in energy. Maybe you coudl reserach a bit more and avoid the pain of a large needle.
  6. I am wondering if your doctors prescribed potassium. When I was on a low carb diet the doctor prescribed potassium to reduce lightheadedness and avoid symptoms related to severe ketosis. Just wondering what your doctors said about it. Thanks
  7. I am not overeating but I am eating all things i love and will not be able to eat again any time soon. The best of all is that I do not feel guilty after eating. It is so good not to beat my self up everytime I eat. Just a few more days of indulging and then the hard part will come. You know what is interesting? I am not gaining a gram...maybe feeling guilty after eating is waht makes us gain more weight? Just going wild in my thoughts...

    Anti-depressant

I work with mental health and I would not condone of anyone stopping antidepressants during a period like this. It is a mojor stress on the body and mind. So many changes and we will be without the benefit/comfort that food has given us. Six weeks without anti-depressant? If I could do it for six weeks, during a period of stress and do not have a major relapse I would not start using it again. Do not take chances, tell your doctor about other sleevers who did not have problems. take care
  10. Thanks Kim I will keep yopu posted. It is so hard to wait.... it feels as if time is not passing...
  11. I also had my ticket but Dr. Kelly was able to give the same date I was going to have with Dr. Almanza. To be honest, I think Dr. Almanza is a great doctor and many people have been to him and had good results. However, those mixed reviews started to bug me a lot. Some people feel really strong against him, his clinic and his assistant and make very serious accusations. If it is true or not I do not know but I was feeling uncomfortable about it. Dr. kelly only had good reviews and for only a few hundreds more I got 2 nights at a full service hospital, private bedroom, a very nice hotel room also private and all the other benefits offered by Dr. Almanza. Since I am going by myself I thought a hospital and a more comfortable place would be more appropriate. I am very confident about Dr. kelly and the hospital. I think it is the best choice.

    Any other Canadians out there?

I am from TO. I am going to Mexico - Dr. Kelly for VSG in Feb 7. The cost is totally worth it and it is much less than what I would spend in food and even larger clothes while waiting for 2 or more years moving into our slooooooooow health system. I will be back soon with news from the healthier me.
  15. Hi I am from Toronto but decided to go to Mexico for surgery. I am having VSG in Feb 7 with Dr. Kelly. Total cost with tickets, etc will be less than $6000. I know it is still a lot but if I add all the missed days of work and one year wait for surgery in Ontario that would cost me more. I was told at TWH that VSG is not covered. Good luck.
  16. I will be there on the 7th. We probably will still meet in our way in and out. Lets keep in touch.
  17. Mine is on Feb 7. I am also by myself. The day of your surgery I will still be there and probably will be already doing weel. Count on me for whatever you need. I will probably stay one more night at the hotel (hacienda) so we may meet there too. Lets keep in touch

    FEBRUARY ROLE CALL!!!

I changed doctors. Dr. Ramos Kelly on Feb 8. Anyone else on that day for Dr. kelly?
  21. It would be so nice to meet you there. I want to hear about your experience and results. I am sure it will all go well for both of us.

    lets keep in touch.

  22. Hi Sam. I am getting to S. Diego on Feb 5 but surgery is on Feb 8. My ticket was so expensive that I decided to stay for 2 days in S. Diego for a bit or tourism and relaxation.

I just changed the pocedure to Dr. kelly. I started to feel uncomfortable about having the procedure in a clinic as i am going by myself so I prefered to be in a full hospital. The dates are the same. How about you?

  23. Hi everyone Thank you very much for all your support. I never thought that virtual support was so effective and important. I feel so close to all of you... I am positive about my decision and I will have it. I am only getting insecure about the doctor, place, price and all these histories about problems with certain doctors. I cannot afford the most expensive doctors but I aso cannot place my life at risk. It is so hard to sort through all the good and bad about the less expensive packages. We dont really know who is a real patinet or not, who is being paid by the doctors or not... I have my surgery booked for Feb 8 with Dr. Almanza but I am about to cancel it. I started to research the other less expensive packages but there is alway someone telling bad things that makes me very scared. I really cannot afford the ones that charge $7000 or more. Thanks again everyone. I will try to get more info from people that have been to the less expensive doctors to see what I get. God bless you all
  24. Hi everyone I will have VSG on Feb 5 in Mexico and coming back to Canada in 4 days. My main convcerns are dizziness and pain. Can you all share with me if you felt dizzy or fainty after 3 days (due to low food intake, low BP, etc) or if you had fainting episodes. Also, how was the flight back? Pain? Dizziness? I appreciate all your answers so I can be better prepared. i am really converned about being dizzy. thanks
